For the past 40 years, I've been going to yard sales, auctions, etc and piecing together a motley assortment of Snap-on, Proto, Indestro, SK, and similar tools until I finally have a decent setup to do basic work. I've had to pay from 25 cents to $1 to even $10 per tool, I must have hundreds invested now.
Today, opened a magazine and saw an ad for Harbor Freight. They sell a full set of wrenches, in SAE or Metric, nice shiny chrome, for $5.99! You can get set up with wrenches for under $12. Splurge and buy TWO SETS of each for under $25! And, I think they are lifetime guaranteed.
Man, just last year I paid $100 for a 16 piece set of Proto metric combination wrenches. And, $125 for a 15 piece set of Snap-on angle wrench open ends. Though they were in excellent condition, they were still used.
Now I feel ripped off and violated! Overpaid by at least $200. What was i thinking?
Now, if I could just find another old, clueless fellow like myself to pass my prior purchases off on, I can replace them at HF and pocket a couple hundred dollars in the process. The only real obstacle is that I have to drive over 120 miles to get the nearest HF store. Part of the cost of living in a small town, I guess. Hope the super sale and coupon doesn't expire before then, the true value of the wrenches, according to the ad is compared at $250.
