Appropriately sized wooden dowels on a 2x4 or something like that?
2oolhound i have looked at these but i think 3/4 would be too big for this type of rail. I can get them in the Y-uk quite reasonably, i might take a punt on a tray and see how they fairI keep mine in their box in a drawer but you can get rails for them too.

The metal box they came in or buy a metal box from proto to carry them in.
I would probably think along the lines of a piece of plywood with counterbored carriage bolts (so the bottom is perfectly flat) pushed up through the bottom with a top side nut on each one (smaller than 3/4" in diameter) to hold them in place. You could even cut the ends of the carriage bolts at an angle and mark the angled end with the socket size using a sharpie etc. You would basically have a DIY Hansen tray.
I use the Ernst socket boss kits for my 3/4" drive sockets. A couple rails on a tray with the twist lock socket clips. It works great in my opinion. I like that the rails lock onto the tray and you can either pick up the whole tray, remove one rail and take it with, or grab a single socket.
Well i knocked tgis together at lunch
