Sweet vacation spot. How often do you get to go. Seems like you are always working. You never cease to amaze me. I've been following along for quite a while. Thanks, for sharing, Brian

Thanks for dropping by Brian.
I see the river about 5 or 6 times a year and when I go I spend about a week, I do have a little garage there to play in, in the winter.

Thanks B F
I picked up the brass from the powder coater this morning. Not real pleased with the outcome next time I will spray clear on the pieces myself.
I did manage to get the gas box into the blasting cabin so hopefully I can make good progress tomorrow.

I am glad you get to enjoy the vacation home. How long of a drive is it from your house to the river? Brian

Plowjeep
I'm a little over 4 hours from the river. I take our dogs with us and one of them gets car sick on the hilly road out there so I take the long way out and the dog does much better. They really enjoy the river and boat rides.

Today was Nautical day at the party garage. I have been gathering up some stuff for the game room in the garage and last week I scored a couple of great pieces so today a buddy came over to help me rearrange the place.

Welcome to the party garage.
The Compass Binnacle and Morse Controls, are the latest pieces to add to my collection. I have been working on getting them for several months. You can see the original condition of the divers helmet on page 144 post 2853
it was a fun quick project. A craigs list find!!

There is a restaurant near here that has a bar made out of an old ChrisCraft cabin cruiser. I always enjoy going there just that reason. The good food is a bonus. Brian

Was working on my gas cart today when I got a surprising phone call from a wife of a very good but deceased friend who offered me a neon sign that I have admired for the last 5 years so I had to stop on the gas box and go get the new sign.
Here is the gas box in the sand blasting cabin after blasting it

1znszrn.jpg

I took the box out with the forklift because it weighs about 100 lbs, put it back in the shop and applied a thin coat of bondo over the entire box to fill the rust pits and smooth out the welds

15ybrck.jpg

I started sanding it smooth when The call came in. Gotta Go

Don: your Nautical, Super Bowl or MAN CAVE room looks awesome and not surprised you and your friends like it.

sorry to hear your friend is no longer with us, but sounds like he was talking to his wife so looking forward to seeing what you come home with.

just curious do you use any particular brand of bondo? and do you buy online or just pick up at the local stores?

keep up the great work and attitude and a lot of us would like to be you sir.

cheers (ITFM)

The Nautical room is an excellent place for an afternoon nap. I would have a TV in there well enough as you do, but probably hidden. I detest TV but I would den up in there and watch old black and white WWII movies or Bogart. I would also want a milkshake maker for an afternoon Vanilla Milkshake followed by a very strong coffee. In fact, I am afraid that room would have to be my private retreat!

Great job and very interesting post AS ALWAYS.

Best Regards
Herb

The room is 1800 sqft with pool table shuffle board (22 ft) pinball machines and a bowling arcade game plus a nice fully loaded bar and a poker table
Lots to do up there.

I got the sign home and torn down this afternoon

You may not believe it but I just make a call to the paint store and what ever I want comes without an invoice Rage Extreme is the bondo I have today

I come with lots of baggage lol
Thanks for the visit Drives

Thanks for dropping back by Herb
. I do appreciate it.
The room lacks a/c right now (not enough electricity to the building) I'm looking for a large generator to solve my problems.

If I want a milk shake I can order it from the diner lol.
I do go up and enjoy a couple pinball games now and then and when my wife invites her girlfriends over I tell the guys to come too and we slide up to the game room for the evening.

So this is what stopped my progress on the gas caddy today
It's a 48" x 28" United motors sign that is double sided!!

What it looked like when I arrived at my friends house

34yo038.jpg

I took the neon off to take the sign down. Taped the glass to a piece of cardboard to transport it safely

2cpup15.jpg

I brought it home and took the other side neon off to clean the sign. It has been hanging in the same spot for 30 years.

23w1imu.jpg

f5aqd.jpg

After cleaning the dust off the sign this is what I have
Not one flaw in the sign on this side. Will turn it over and clean up the other side next

2uonwyf.jpg

Oh I almost forgot. The gal gave me a picture of the sign mounted on the original garage
Ben Warner garage and towing company Orange California.
I'm the 3rd owner (proudly)

United Motors. One of the coolest logo's ever. I'm sure it will make your friend feel good that you have given such care to it. A fitting way to honor it's past by showing it off in your garage.

I don't know why but I'm pumped to see it finished, no pressure tho

Sorry that I haven't answered sooner But I just got home from a 4 day road trip up north. I didn't come home empty handed but nothing to show off tonight. I did find a couple of pieces of nautical stuff for the game room and one piece for the 30's garage.

The 30's garage has been dedicated to my old friend

That's great that she thought of you about the sign. She knows its in good hands and will be cherished. Salute.

Thanks Shorty
I have picked a spot on the 30's garage for it and tomorrow I will start to build the bracket to mount it.

Yes I Do Herb

And this is the sign that gave me the inspiration for it. This one is multi colored and 4' my old one is standard 6' with moving wheels. The sign I took the pattern off of is listed on Ebay for $36,000.00

I'm not sure which score I was the most stoked over I have been working both of them for a long time.
I just found out that my wife had a hand in the sign, She told her friend to hold the sign til my birthday (Tomorrow) a few months ago so Wednesday was close enough

I too am excited to see the gas cart finished I have the brass back now I'm waiting on the chrome to return so I must kick it in gear and get the box painted

Thanks to everyone for stopping by to see what is happening around here. It keeps me motivated

But this week was a back at it week.
The party garage is in total shambles! I have started another construction project in it. I have til the 10th of next month to git ur done. I am building walls under the game room mezzanine. Dividing the area into 2 shops Ford and Chevrolet. I may have bitten off to much this time. We'll see!!!

Here is a before picture of the south wall area

Hey Don, Happy belated birthday. I've been off line for a while and just catching up.

I love the ideal of the shops under the party room. Are you going to include stairs up to the loft or remain with the elevator? Wish the bride and I were closer so I could sneak over. Good luck on your deadline, but knowing you, you will make it.

Yes Herb
Another party, This one is very special to me. The collision industry is holding their annual convention in So. Cal this year and they have asked me to host a welcome party luncheon here on Wednesday afternoon August 10th. It will be sponsored by 3m and PPG.
When I had my business I was very active in the industry. I hope to see many of my old friends here that day.

I am putting up 3 walls around the mezzanine to create another garage building.

Looks like the Goodyear sign needs a new home. I could make room for it. ;)

Toolfool
You are right about the Goodyear sign. Not sure where it will go.

You have been missed!!
No stairs in the plan yet. I would put you to work if you lived near by.

I will take a picture of the progress tomorrow.

Thanks to all that have visited

Those are some amazing photo's of your shop! It will be interesting to see how the new wall turns out!

I had a question on how that Goodyear sign is mounted! Is it mounted to some steel to keep it all together or is each letter mounted separately? I just picked up a Goodyear tires porcelain sign with the winged foot and I was wondering the best way to go about mounting it? Any help would great, but I know how busy you are! I wonder if there was a template for these signs when they were originally hung at all the service stations?

Congrats on the new sign BF
Mine is lit with neon so it has a can that the letters are fastened to. I don't know of any template for them.

As promised here are a few shots of the progress of the new construction

Yesterday

Tonight

30rxlq1.jpg

We built a second wall to bury the posts and the windows will be shadow boxes on the outside wall so with the second wall we are able to get them wider inside
I put in a lot of electric plug boxes so I can put signs and clocks and things on the walls
