Outlaw, The only way that tackle box and contents deal could be any better is if there were $5.00 in there too. Well, not the only way, but .... U ****.

Sick, Oulaw! Just sick!!! Congratulations!! I'm always looking for metric wrenches and sockets and never seem to find them. Plenty of SAE but almost no metric.

And The "main Event" the contents of the tackle box. Its obvious why the Box was "built up" but it didn't help the trays last...

You can see the trays on the left side badly settled and one is broken. I'd guess some one gave the box a drop, and that was it with all the weight...

attachment.php

This is what I'd been seeing and why I bought the box complete:

attachment.php

Lots of wrenches, and all I'm seeing are Metric...

attachment.php

And what it all translated to:

Two complete sets of SO Metric from 10mm to 22, and short pattern from 10mm to 19. No skips in either set! SO lists these at $920 and $370 respectively! :rocker:

Apparent;y this was someone's "Metric tools" as only a few sockets were not Metric:

Proto sockets from 8mm to 19mm - no skips

Long ratchet is Mac, short is Bonney as are near all of the chrome Extensions, with 3 swivel extensions in the set. Impact ext. are SO, Breaker is Proto, Hex drive are 1/2" drive and all SO, and the "long" one is 3/8 and 10MM. the shorty extension adn sparkplug socket are SO, The Impacts are MAC. Some Bonney adapters, three Indestro in SAE in back on the left and one 13/16 Craftsman.

attachment.php

Proto Adjustable, 2 Bonney drivers & Duckbills, Stubby's are Xcelite, Proto 1/4" flex driver, MAC solid 1/4" driver, the two Multi tips are Magna Driver Corp, one marked "Cleco", A magnetic extendable pick up tool and a Screw starter...

attachment.php

Everything, including the broken box, for $5!

:Ninja:

Well PFSard, it wasn't cash $$ but I was "saving the usable hardware" and wrapped in paper towel were 4 MORE of the long pattern 13 pc set, which just became 17 pcs, with the addition of a 6, 7, 8 & 9mm ! so 9-22MM no skips! OCD? We ain't got no OCD!

And unrelated. I missed one other thing from another sale at the Block Sale, 3 Manuals, two of them Hardbound, for Motorcycles, and one for MotoCraft (Ford) Carbs:

240SX,
Looks like three good and useful tools to me. The bright side is you didn't buy a bunch of junk to find three good tools either which sometimes happens. Good finds.

I quietly close the box up and slowly get $5 out of my wallet. By the way the box is broken inside so the cantilever trays needed help to move, but I bought it anyway... More on this later

Let's face it, Outlaw, "you ****" doesn't even come close to describing this find, and I think you and everyone else here knows it. If this is a "you ****" find, then the Mona Lisa was just a painting.

This find goes substantially beyond "you ****" - it's in a completely new category. You , my friend, have created a fundamental shift in the space-time continuum. You may have actually created a garage sale wormhole!

Man, that punch and chisel set is awesome! Totally jealous of your find.

Also, Outlaw: that find is ridiculous.

Agreed. It's these kind of finds that keep us "retirees" from truly leaving the game...

Me! I'm a good Multi-tasker!

Outlawmws:

How many boxes over the years do you pick up and open, only to later put it back for sale.

I'm glad for your results this time and truly a reminder to the rest of us to look though everything!!!

You have put a buzz into our forum for now!!!

Holy ****. Outlaw wins the thread for the year! :O

Anyways, have a lot of catching up with postings, but unfortunately that doesn't involve a lot of stuff. There's been a huge number of sales around here lately but unfortunately they've either all been duds or I've shown up too late. So here's what I've managed to round up since my last post here.

Klein adjustable and a set of Hoppe (Germany) drill bits
3$ for both items

Craftsman RHFT 1/2" ratchet, only missing the 3/8" to complete the set now
Gray Canada 1/2" speeder
5$ for both items

Penens and Barcalo Buffalo combo wrenches
Plvmb DBE, my first Plvmb tool!
2$ for the three items at a barn sale

SK 22mm combo
Lufkin Canada tape measure
Millers Falls 445 automatic drill, no bits
Channellock 338 Diagonal cutting plier
5$ at the flea market

Craftsman 1/2" and 10mm =v= and -v- combo wrenches
Mac 5/16" combo
1$ at a yard sale. Seller only wanted 50 cents but I didn't have any change.

Drove out of town 30 minutes to a sale that advertised a lot of tools. There was a decent selection but the prices were all over the place. Ended up buying these 4 items for 11$ (more than I wanted but I didn't want to leave empty handed)
Craftsman C-clamp
2 Brinks & Cotton C-clamps
Nail puller (no makers mark but says "320" and "Forged Alloy Steel")

Got this stuff yesterday, at the 2nd day of a sale wish I had noticed and gone on Friday, no telling what I might have missed.

Hercules (USA) 12" square
Utica 6" adjustable
Tecomaster nail set
Channellock 358 end cutters
Eatonia (germany) cross peen hammer. Got this and the nail set because they were sold in the now defunct Eatons' stores. Hammer still has the original price tag on it.
Estwing claw hammer. Have wanted one for a long time, couldn't justify a new 35$ hammer. Done deal.
10$ for everything. Also thought I had a pair of needle nose pliers but I guess I forgot them there ;)

Years ago my dad was working on those vac trucks that they use to clean sand and rocks out of storm drains. To test them, he would place the hose on the top of a 55 gallon drum ( that was full of liquid) and pick it up with the suction.

You **** much more than this Outlaw.

You got screwed on the box though.:lol_hitti
You saved me some time today, I just took my finds and put them away.

Great find though, it's what we all dream of.

We all need a dose of reality after Outlaw's fairy tale pick. I'll be the object lesson.

Today I picked up this set of Nye pipe thread dies (1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4") and No 60 threader with handle for $75 and the Greenlee punches (1/2", 3/4", 11/16", 1-1/4") for another $20. The draw pin was thrown in for free.

This was the 2nd day of a "Tons of Tools!" estate sale near my office. Since I had to go in to finish up a few things before vacation starts next week, why not see what bargains remained?

Hardly anyone there, and the guy running it is talking up the handful of tools still there. I should have walked away--I don't need any of the things I bought (except the draw pin). But I've sold Ridgid pipe threaders for a handsome profit before and thought this was still a deal. Only after getting back to the car and running an Ebay "Sold" search on Nye No 60 did I hear the "Wah, wah, waaaah" music in my head.

That's picking. Most days are decent, once a decade you might see an Outlaw's Tackle Box-level pick, but sometimes you get picked yourself. Selling off the Greenlees will ease the pain a little, I suppose.

What a crappy last pick before 3 weeks of vacation.

Yea, Outlaw pretty much gets great stuff that the rest of us only dream about. When greeting Outlaw we pretty much should say "You ****" instead of Hello!

Thanks Guys! (Takes a bow)

Mike, Yep, a bunch! Most of the time you open some closed box, or dig through a box of "junk" and its mostly just junk or stuff you don't want, but it happens enough to keep me digging ot sometimes getting out of the car to look through one box or check an odd shape on a table or the ground, and voila! A 1/4 SO ratchet, or an old Athol clamp on vise. or a tackle box full or...

Rickster, Nice find on the SK roto head. I'm still weak there.

240 I'm always buying Vise grips and the bitty one are remarkably handy I've found. (used one just yesterday salvaging hasps of a certain tackle box...) ;)

Dutch, are the impact sockets 1/4" drive? They look small!

Tim, I can't recall seeing a wood handle on one of those drills! Also the "Cross Peen Hammer" is actually a sheet metal workers hammer.

CB: Post em up! we all like seeing them - Large or small  (did I just say that?) And yes, the box and some of the hardware inside was just trash... should I go back and complain?

Dutch and Rick, I like that you guys are finding the socket sets with trays. I've had a MAC 3/8 drive std set in metric for near to 40 years (none broken, none lost! - Knocks on wood).

The thing I like about trays is there is no "OCD - I'm missing a number!" unless you just lost or broke one of them... I went looking for one for the Proto metric set yesterday, and found two in the pile, but neither would not close over the top... Just now I was getting something else and I found a third, and this one does work! I'm "missing" one larger or two smaller, but the tray is there!

The other thing I like about trays is they are handy to take to the job, and you don't have to worry about "I forgot one size..."

The third thing is they still work with the magnets I use for most keeping of my user sockets...

Whchua, those Metal Set boxes are another thing I like, as it has it all: sockets and at least basic ratchets and extensions. Organizing the boxes and having space takes a bit more effort though....

I'm not a fan of the blow mold boxes for shop use, but some work great for a road box. everything stays put, no or minimal rattling, and you can see at a glance for the most part if any are missing...
