check the New Age Cabinets the second they arrive. don't let the driver go until you inspect the. Helped my buddy set up his garage with a 12 piece setup and 50% was damaged and then half of the replacements were damaged. It took about 3 or for 4 tries to get all the cabinets with no damage.

But they did let him keep all the damaged ones. I think he might have gotten one or 2 good cabinets out of pieces of the damaged ones.

Good to know! Thanks. I had to order from two separate suppliers as Sears didnt have 8 of the gray ones in stock.

W/ the awesome lift, there's no excuse to take your car in for service next time, unless for warranty.

Epoxy floors are done, still curing through Thursday. Hoping to set the upper NewAge cabinets next week and also get started on the lower workbench project as well. I'm having a hard time finding reasonably priced tube steel suppliers in the bay area - any recommendations?

In Petaluma right off 101 is Maselli and Sons Hardware. In back they have a junk yard of used steel. It's pretty cool.:rocker:

Have you made any progress on your gate? I am going to have the same narrow access to the garage as you. ABout 10 feet from house to fence and have 2 dogs I need to keep trapped in the yard. Interested in what you have planned.

Yes - tube steel grate frame is being fabricated now and will be installed next weekend. I'll post some pics when it goes in. The whole thing will then get wrapped in Cedar then painted.

I went with an affordable Mighty Mule opener which will go on the backside and not be visible from the street.

Once again, floors look awesome!

As far as the NewAge cabinets, I did some research and did hear rumblings of damaged cabinets upon delivery. Although most of these complaints from what I have found were instances when they were ordered from a 3rd party, i.e. Amazon, Sam's Club, etc. I ordered my Bold cabinets directly from shopNewAge.com and they arrived tightly wrapped and in perfect condition. Of course, I still need to install the uppers!

Also note, NewAge is a Canadian company and if you order directly from them, you may have to pay a foreign transaction fee (very nominal though)

The NewAge is based in Ontario. They have warehouses across the US, there's no foreign transaction fee. :rocker:

These cabinets are packaged very well and shipped on pallets. If you purchase individual cabinets they will be shipped by FedEx or UPS. Those cabinets are usually damaged because of the handling of the packages.

The cabinets are shipped out of NewAge's warehouse no matter which distributor you purchase from.

Thanks for supporting small business

First load of NewAge cabinets showed up yesterday (4 of 12). They look awesome and will probably go up next weekend. Also got my M3 back after being in the shop for 2 months and threw it up on the lift. Plenty of room to spare at the ceiling and 6' clear underneath - which was exactly the design intent.

Well you guys were right about damage to the NewAge cabinets. I ordered 4 through Sams Club and they came on a pallet and I ordered 8 from Sears and they were loose shipped and 6 of the 8 were damaged, and of the 6, 4 need to be replaced.

I got 6 up late last night and hope to get another few up tonight while I wait for replacements.

Are those base cabinets? The locks look like there in the wrong place. The wall cabinets have the locks at the bottom of the cabinet. :dunno:

It's tough to get sheet metal cabinets through UPS of FedEx without damage. :Mr.T:

Keep posting pictures as the cabinets go up. Lots of people want to hear the story. The old, "if I can't see or touch them, how do I know what I'm getting", is very true.

Yes, they're base cabinets. I found the cost per cubic foot and available sizes met my needs much better than the uppers. I'll rarely lock them so having the lock way up high is fine by me. Very happy with the overall value of these cabinets and capacity. The base cabinets are nice and deep at 16" deep vs. 12" (IIRC) for the uppers. That extra 4" makes a huge difference.

What was the function of that giant screw? You didn't use that to hold up the cabinets, did you? That thing would be poking out thru the siding.:eyecrazy:
Was it used to hold them on the pallet?
Also pertaining to Dittle's question, I was wondering if the cabinet could be flipped upside down or maybe just the doors. I don't know what the inside of these cabinets look like.

That sure is used to hold up the cabinets! I used it with a huge washer and put 4 in per cabinet. My framing is 2x6 on the walls and those screws are 5" in length so they penetrate only about 4" into the 5.5" stud after you account for the washer, cabinet & 5/8" drywall.

Can't flip the cabinet as the shelves snap into knock out type holders in the side and wouldn't work if you flipped them.

When I told you of my experience of the damage, they were all pallet delivered by a trucking company called Moran. They tend to get things sorted easily, but the unless you have a lax work situation, running home or using vacation days to accept the delivery *****.

Wow! I just stumbled on this garage build. Fantastic! Well done, sir! Character for miles. I really appreciate the fact that you put this level of detail into this project. I've been planning out a garage addition and an additional stand alone garage and the level of detail is super important to me. Just feels good to work in a space that's inspirational.

Again, well done! Thanks for sharing!

Picked up my tube steel and 3 of 5 HF tool boxes the other day. I'm hoping to have time this weekend to get the frames welded up for the Steevo inspired work bench. I salvaged some flat doors for sub tops under the sheet metal top that will go on it. They're hollow core, but I'll go with fairly thick sheet metal.

Dogs love the new floor...

Found an almost perfect match to the harbor freight red - it's Orchard Supply's "Bright Red". About half the cost of Rustoleum which is nice as well. I'll be painting the cabinet frames in this.

depending on how those doors are mounted could you just flip the doors upside down having the locks end up down at the bottom?

No can do - the shelves wouldnt work. The shelves only work in the current upright orientation.

This is really shaping up to be one of the most spectacular garages I've seen. It's a pity about the damaged cabinets. Nothing is more frustrating than complications when you're awaiting a shipment.

Love all the planned out details. The really clean finishes can only come if you have laid the groundwork beforehand, and it really shows.

No better way to unload a 400# tool chest out of the back of your truck than a scissor lift...

Can't say I'm proud of buying chinese made tool tool chests, but the value is unbeatable.

Gate frame goes in tomorrow, welding up the frames for the tool chest work bench and the 600 SF brick patio on the side of the garage is being worked on this weekend.

Love the build and the look. with my old eyes if I dropped a screw on that floor I would never see it again until pulling it from a tire! Bench is going to be killer.

That's why I have the HF rolling magnet for the 66 YO eyes, LOL!

I love this build, the architecture, the workmanship, and the ideas, I stayed up until 1 AM this morning reading the entire thread. It is like a best selling book one cannot put down.

Looking forward to more pics and responses as I have subscribed; I love bungalow styled homes.
