Wow G-Man that's really cool base and with two vises for one price. I think that definitely deserves a You ****. The base alone is an awesome piece of Detroit history.

Honestly, I wanted the base more than any of the vises there. I almost asked the guy if he would sell the base by itself, but figured it was worth asking what he wanted for the set. I'll probably fix up both vises and sell them, but the stand is staying!

GMAN: SIMPLY STATED. VERY WELL DONE SIR!! we need pictures of the vises you passed on next time or did you take a few so you can post them too?

Boatman: that Parker (i know you meant that and not Prentiss) Coachmaker's vise is stout. you are welcome to post more than one picture per vise especially with the quality vises you own. thanks again.

JOE: NOT FREE?? i guess your MINIONS need gas money too don't they. that's a lot of extras with that vise i didn't really know existed. will that clamp fit under a baby bullet?

LOL....I thought I was okay because I said it wasn't "you ****" pricing! :dunno:

No worries. I honestly did not take your comment as solicitation. I would keep the base as well. It's not every day you come across something unique versus the normal Craftsman brand stuff.

Yes Drive I meant Parker it even says it right on the side, doh! I'm not sure what you mean by one picture per vise, my last post had four pics of the Parker. Are you not seeing them all?
On to the next one. I showed my Versa Vise with the home made mount up thread somewhere, this is my tall jaw model. I repainted it last summer. I got the base and the Pow-R-Arm off CL about three months ago. I turned a short section to mate the two together.

BlueFrog: even though Outlaw's math is a little off you still found a great deal on a nice old Prentiss. WELL DONE!!

Sandman: i'm pretty sure you own a fork lift, but i don't see anyway to lift that anvil that might weigh 800 pounds other than putting some chain around it or are there wheels under that base. nice looking YORK which by the way isn't that small of a vice until you put one of your big anvils under it. thanks for sharing pictures of your cool old and BIG IRON.

Boatman: you can post one or a bunch of pictures as you wish and i was probably talking more about only getting one pick of the swivel jaw Reed and the Emmert that you are more than invited to post more if you have time.

so is there a company's name on that power arm under your VERSA VISE? it looks pretty nice the way you set it up. WELL DONE SIR!!

Boatman53,

I'm glad to see the tall-jaw Versa Vise being put to good use, and I had no idea that you would find such a creative method of mounting it - this one is even better than your original bench mount.

Outlaw: per inch. :D

All: anybody know much about this vise? i posted it a couple days ago and not a peep so maybe a bigger picture might help see the vise and name. it's interesting to say the least and i'm guessing European with the 150 on it letting us know that it's about a 6 inch wide jaw.

Is today the day ? We have been waiting since last week :headscrat :dunno:

He doesn't live where the vise is so it is slowing things down plus he has a pretty high offer on it already. I am not making a higher offer until I see it in person.

Demoman would like this vise, he probably has 2 or 3 already though LOL.

I picked up this piece of box section a while ago, I'm thinking it would be pretty good for the stand for a certain large vise I've got. Just need some big pieces of real heavy plate....

Drives I think thats an Asian made copy of some specialized vises for holding rounds and odd shapes.

I DON'T think it is chicom however. I could be wrong. If the price is right its probably; worth getting. I tried for one a while back but the guy would not work with me on shipping.

Biggest piece of box I've personally seen! The metal supplier I deal with bought a whole semi load of drops for basically scrap price, and was selling them dirt cheap. I think I paid 50 bucks for this 4' chunk.

And here is what will eventually be mounted to it! My old 7.25", 175# blacksmith vise. Today's project will be finishing to fix the jaws that someone decided to torch a big hole in. One is mostly welded up, just needs a little touch up. The other I just ground all the torch slag out of in preparation for welding. I'll post some pictures as I progress with it.

Outlaw: i'd never seen it before and for a little over a benjamin i could have bought it and it sold before i could get back to him or i'd have better pictures. i've just missed a few of these and like the idea of those types of jaws on a vise for the odd shaped stuff. thanks for your thoughts

VN: nice seeing you posting again. are these pieces about the right size for that piece of steel tubing to sit on? 4 inches thick and 23 inches in diameter so i bet they wouldn't move very far if you wanted it to stay put.

is that for that big blacksmith vise you were restoring and looks like you are still making progress on it?

BB: remember to pull the dynamic off and maybe the swivel base to carry that one to your truck and into your shop. then putting it together you'll need to have 3 or 4 hands on some of those old big uns. still need some luck? you have my blessing.

How did you know it was a swivel LOL.

Yeah my smaller 6" version of this vise I had to do in two pieces. This one I may just bring my small trailer and use my big dolly!

I've checked my 3 Record catalogues and none are mentioned. Looking through the B&H catalogues all the pre WW2 catalogues have Disston saw vices and the post war catalogues don't mention the manufacturer, they do look the same but I'm thinking it's a very generic design.

PG162 of the 1953 B&H catalogue gives an example of the no name one.

Well here are the two main forgings of my biggest vise with the first coat of finish on them. I used my standard exterior finish, about half and half boiled linseed oil and pine tar, with enough turpentine added to make it liquid. Same effect as Blo, but better protection d80fe61f732780310d079ece5af5b49a.jpg

Boatman. It may not be big but I love it and would dearly love one in my collection. Actually it would probably be a user not just a collectable.

I plan to do a resto on a Wilton 930. I have been looking for Rustoleum Verde green hammer spray paint, but can't find it anywhere. I looked at Walmart, home depot and napa. Any suggestions where to look or of some kind of similar paint?

Stamped July 1946. Unfortunately this guy came without swivel base. Paid $40, same price as for my C0.

Here is another clamp on vise, but there is nothing wimpy about it. No name, just the number on the side.

The jaws are self opening via a leaf type spring much like a big blacksmith's post vise. Anyone seen another like it?
