Retractable power cords?

Can anyone recommend a retractable power cord reel that's decent?

I'm interested in installing one or two in my work shop in an effort to keep the excess cord off the floor (and thus getting stepped on).

If you could afford them, Appleton, but will choke at the prices unless they could be found surplus. New they are crazy expensive.

Don't roll your eyes too much, but the Harbor Freight cord reels are about as good as you can get on the cheap with using the 20% coupon. I have a couple and they have lasted years.

I scored a Coxreel on Ebay, seller said it was broken, only needed the clockspring clocked correctly. Has a double sided Hubble receptacle too, 100 bucks to my door. I FREAKING LOVE NOT WINDING CORDS BACK UP! Get a good retractable and you will wonder how you lived without it!

I bought one thru my local True Value. Don't, doesn't have power half the time. Gotta return it :(

Wow! I will have to check this out. I fully respect your electrical contributions to this site. Model number of one you have?

Note: If your power is intermittent it's usually the wiper contact being dirty or not bent enough to maintain contact. I bought a like new cord reel off a lady who was moving and that was all it took.

Also: Never extend or contract the cable while under any but the lightest load (shop light, etc) and NEVER run a small heater, even under 1500 W through one as you will fry the contactors.

I have several in the ceiling of my shop and garage. Love 'em. Great to plug in the garage door opener outlet.

:)

I have both air and power retractable reels, just manual clock spring type. I keep a shop rag near them and as they rewind I hold them with the shop rag to remove and dirt they may have picked up while in use. Keeps dirt and junk from winding up in the case or mechanism and causing any problems.
