Nice and cheap I see CW
It's one of the issues with Parkinson's is that so many are badly listed, at least it makes them cheaper if you spot them.

Yep, there is a Parkinsons No 9 on eBay at the moment where the seller can't read the makers name.
I'd bid but it's in poor condition and too far away. It's missing the quick release and has a chunk missing from the slide, which is a shame as No 9's don't come up very often at all.

Tim: that tool box would look great painted a different color if you can make a deal on it too. not sure if you have a trailer rental place like UHaul, but if my trailer was full or i needed a little bigger one i'd rent one of theirs for $20 to $40 a day. good luck

Tool box has been sold already. I'm still curious about what it is though, it doesn't look like anything I've seen before with the 11 drawer layout and my google-fu has failed me so far.

Am thinking about restoring this Parker 995. What color would look good? Black? What do you guys think?

I really like Italian Olive by Krylon its dark enough not to show dirt but bright enough to have it stand out a bit. There are a ton of great restores on this site Kevin Scott, Veeps, Joe Stripper and many others do fantastic work and use many different colors, look at their stuff and then you will be very confused on what color to use,:eyecrazy: trust me I know. Great thing about it is you could always change it if you don't like it.

Really clean Vandermann, and you already know that Reed is my favorite.

I figured you used the big round agie for swedging Wilton end caps.:dunno:

na, no pets VA except my humming birds, I would never shoot a bull, I like to eat the cows (female Elk), the Bull is starring at me through my Choke Cherry bush right outside of my shop and the Moose is running away from me a couple miles from home. I truly love my house and location. I like sharring my pic's with Oldie since his home state is always to hot at least in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

Guys my new CNC is awesome, already full of tool steel chips. I am making stuff for vise guys like you all and have my other CNC empty and ready to work some vises back into shape. First gotta finish my 6" Parker with a heavy stand. Getting back on that one next week. I'll share pictures of the restore.

A 9" vise with a stamped steel jaw beam, what could go wrong? And WTF is a precoated sand casting made of HT200 cast iron? Marketing dept must be working overtime.

Anyone know anything about this model of "solid steel" Jet brand vise?

JZ: i like Jet products and pretty sure their old vises were made in Japan (maybe Taiwan) and i've yet to see a broken one. they don't sell for a lot though, but maybe after seeing what VA posted for $270 i bet they will.

ALL: so there is at least one member of GJ that thinks a REED 105 or a Wilton 4.5 inch Bullet isn't worth $50 and $100 is overpriced. AGREED? hard telling some people that the good old steel is better than the new stuff priced 3 to 10 times more.SOME PEOPLE'S KIDS :eyecrazy:

Sandman: thanks for EYE CANDY and any more to post please do.

I've been working on this vise for quite a while. it was all rusted up and stuck, we had to warm it up with a fire torch to free it. I also had some issues with orange peel. anyway, it finally came together last night. it is a Hollands 53 1/2 H. It's got 4.5" jaws, 12" high and 18" long when closed. This has been my very first restoration. Unfortunately it's missing the pipe jaws.

Thanks! :) I'm pretty happy too how it turned out. too bad the pipe jaws are missing, otherwise it would have all the features you could have in a vise :)

Ohh, you mean the Parker 995? Too bad you don't live anywhere close, cause I have one of those too :p

Beautiful vise! Any thoughts on the durability of that anvil horn? I was under the impression that you shouldn't bang on a cast iron vise for fear of cracking it.

Nice vice and restore! I will see your 12" and raise you 2".

This one is 14" tall and I think it is 22" long. It is heavier than I will pick up, when assembled.

Before:

It was covered in many layers of paint and some tough rust. The handles for the base were rusted in place, so I welded 1/2x13 nuts on them and hit them lightly with the impact, and then ground the nuts off. This one has been beat up with hammers and other tools, in the past (before I got it). I used coarse glass bead to blast it.
IMG_20160531_173608859.jpg

This one was in much better shape and the rust was not too hard to remove. Fine glass bead cleaned it up quite well.

IMG_20160810_204302990.jpg

Both of these are painted with Rustoleum Universal Hammered Rosemarry and the bare steel/iron was coated with boiled linseed oil.

Now I have to figure out where to mount them, in my small space. The big one might go outside, but will be covered to protect it. They almost look too nice to use. The 2000's wilton will stay on my main bench (not the fab table) where I use it for welding parts or grinding. It has been a great vice and is likely an import, but I try not to beat it up either.

Did I really need these two vices..................no, but GJ wore off on me and I had to have them.
