Love the drive as well. Is the area that only the wheel tracks are poured, by the house, going to be "green" in the center or is it drainage grates?

the copper trim and roofing is beautiful as well. I am sure the meth fiends are salivating as well.

Lots of welding/grinding this weekend. Workbench frame is about halfway done and I got the driveway gate frame in as well. Unlike most of the other HF frames I've seen, this one will allow you to slide the box in from the front, eliminating the need for a forklift during install. Partially put together below, but keep in mind it's upside down/backwards in the photos below. More pics to come later this week.

Driveway gate frame below. It will get wrapped in wood using the same siding as the house and railing design at the top to allow some light to come through at about 4-'5" off the ground to make it a little less "heavy" looking. Turns out I set the post too low so I'll need to add a 6x6 post extension on the top. The ghetto setup on the top is temporary.

Thanks! Yes - the dirt strips down the driveway will have grass in them... someday when I get around to it.

It looks like you already found a tubing supplier, but my favorite steel supply place is Naylor Steel in Hayward. If you are looking for a lot of tube, Tube Service in Milpitas would be your best bet.

I went with a 6x6x1/4 for the gate post. Driveway at the narrow point is 9' (chimney) and the rest of it is about 10'-6". I'd certainly elect for a wider driveway if at all possible.

Garage is about 575 SF. Winters rarely get below freezing around here but are consistently in the high 40s/low 50s. Here's the one I used:

Thanks Nit..I should mention too that your use of the ridge beam, storage platform, recessed troffers etc. makes for extremely efficient use of your space, while allowing ceiling height for lifts.

I've always been a fan of roof/ceiling designs that vary from the typical truss..and your shop is a fine example indeed I'm sure many folks will walk into your shop and spend a few minutes just looking up!

Hi. Just wanted to say you have an awesome garage and wanted to chime in about the NewAge Cabinets. I'm assuming you purchased the Pro Series and not the Bold Series? I purchased all of my NewAge Cabinets (Pro Series) from HomeDepot when they discontinued the older generation of cabinets and offered them at 35% off (They have the piano hinge and are slightly larger...) I initially had them shipped to my house and some of them were horribly damaged. My advice for anyone is to have them shipped to the store so you can inspect them and reject them on the spot. Other then surviving shipping they are nice solid Cabinets structurally however they do have some quality control issues occasionally.

I actually did buy the Bold series for cost savings. I purchased "lowers" which are 16" deep instead of 12" deep to give quite a bit more overall storage.

I ordered a big chunk of them through Sears and they were shipped loose via UPS, which is where the major damage occurred. I ordered the rest through Sams Club and they were properly shipped on a pallet with very minor damage that I was able to bend back easily by hand. With the thinner Bold series you almost need to expect a minor amount of damage given the sheet metal is relatively thin. Once up in place, you'd never know.

Exactly - There's 6" baserock, 5" concrete slab, 1/2-3/4" mortar, then it's all grouted afterwards.

Lots of progress on the bench last night. The frame for one wall is 99% finished (just need to paint the top) then the HF cabinets can slide in from the front. I'll use a pallet jack to lift them up to the correct height then push them in from there. Should be pretty easy... I hope. I also finished up the upper cabinet install on the rear/left walls. I just have 3 left to go on the right wall around the lift controls.

Old reclaimed sand cast brick (at least 120 years old). I'll end up using about 20 pallets worth of it when I'm done with everything I'm planning.

Maybe I missed this, but why don't you just leave the tool chest on the casters instead of building that frame work? That way if you wanted to you could roll one out closer to where you are working.

The way I have it set up is much more rigid and permanent. They wont move around and they'll stay perfectly in line with each other. Its a small garage so I wont need to roll it around. I can also get the work surface slightly lower as with the casters and a work bench on top, it would have been awkwardly high.

So, what are your plans for the lower electrical outlet behind the third cabinet? I don't see it being used for anything that gets unplugged often.
