This was the Hornet's nest here.

3 Hornet box sets that were all the same at one time. Kind of like the good, the bad, and the ugly now  One set is complete with ratchet and mostly NOS.

There is a second set of Hornet sockets and extension, a partial set, plus a Columbia socket set minus one piece.

Boh Hornet and Columbia were mfd. by Williams.

Check out the lat pic comparing sockets.

Managed to slip out and hit one estate sale. Lots of stuff but these were al I wanted:

3 Plvmb DOE's (heavies!) a Proto LA huge screwdriver, and an all iron screwdriver that has been abused as the end has been hammered, and the tip looks more like a staking tool than a screwdriver... :dunno:

$12 with 9 of that for the wrenches.

Bell property pen, general tap wrench, Italy scissors, cutco scissors, 6" crescent wrench, 6" starrett rule
06e926b6181aa1311286af889fe5edd5.jpg

I scored some Case ** scissors today that look a lot like those Cutco.

Bradford, PA and Olean, NY are only 25 miles apart. I wonder if Case was making scissors for Cutco for a time?

I didn't do nearly as well as some of the recent posters, but I did well enough to make me glad I went. The Ingersoll Rand 325 nibbler was the buy of the day., Also a cool wright swivel socket. I like Wright tools but don't find much of it.

Stopped at an office clean out sale yesterday. Walked away with this for $12. The clamp is a Stanley USA, hammer is unmarked, loom is ideal NIP. The 2 drawer file cabinet is heavy and the drawers slide nicely of ball bearing slides.

Big score for 3 bay!

Thanks, I could feel a good one was near. I got to the sale 6th on the list but lucky first to the garage.

3bay, nice grabs on those Hornet boxes/pieces

I was quite excited about that myself. Always seem to find single Hornet pieces. Can't help but wonder what happened to these sets over time.

I was trying to find some info on the Columbia name a while back after discovering a 3/8 ratchet, so these sockets were a nice addition. I've since seen one Columbia box set online. Unlike Hornet, they were in a red plastic snap case labeled Columbia and Williams.

Wasn't much going on in my neighborhood today, only one estate sale on its' last day. Almost didn't go, but decided last minute why not, it was only like a mile away. On the way there, came across an unadvertised yard sale- my favorite kind. Picked up the following for $14 total, that's all I had on me.

I didn't know what the Landis was for, but anything that looks like that I'm wasn't leaving behind. Turns out it's a "Leather Skiver" And the Snap-On box was in pretty nice shape too, looks like maybe late 60's? Oh yeah, and the estate sale was a total bust.

Finally got out for a morning in the neighborhood, stopping at a few yard sales. Picked up this 1/4dr non-sparking ratchet, a 1940s Duchess silver-plate Disney Pinnochio-Donkey fork, and a big brass snap-swivel (fishing tackle) all for $1.
For $2, I got an 9" aluminum #3983 Craftsman-underline torpedo level, a Lufkin folding rule, and an interesting bottle opener.
Elsewhere, picked up a package of baseboard doorstops and a few pounds of drywall, deck, and masonry screws for $6.

Good pickup on the Landis Skiver.

Like you, never heard of it, but found a similar machine in short video on YouTube to get an idea of it.

Here is that link to that video, showing some skiving on leather.

Local Chevy engine plant safety award/novelty socket set $1

Billings socket set with Herbrand ratchet $10

Craftsman 3/8 ratchet $1
Bonney adjustable $1

Crescent 50th anniversary pliers $.50

Oldham Saw Company router bit display case that would typically be seen in a hardware store. This from the time when the company was family owned and a few miles up the road. Believe they moved to North Carolina and then sold out. I think they are part of Stanley Black & Decker these days.
Cost...... too much :lol_hitti: .... but I wanted it badly since I may never see one again.

Went to an antique fair this morning. Walked around for almost three hours and saw a lot of interesting stuff, but only brought home a couple small items.

Plomb 710S 10" Adjustable Wrench with 1947 date code
Utica 1300-6 "Gas and Burner" Pliers

I really like the style of the Plomb adjustable with the "PLVMB" and "PLVMBALVY" branding, and the Utica pliers seem like they will come in handy once in a while. Paid $7 for the pair from the same vendor.

Thanks Mike, just found the exact model in action, Landis model 30:

I'll most likely restore it, they seem to go for big bucks on the auction site.

Hit one estate sale today. Not much there, but did find Tulsa County's ugliest Disston No. 7 panel saw (1896-1917, per the Disstonian Institute site). But it's straight and sharp, so if I can remove the hideous yellow paint, it'll make a fine toolbox-sized user. A small bag of sockets included seven early Craftsmans: 7/16, 5/8, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16, and 1. The 1 is a BE, and the others are Circle-H. Four other USA sockets, a Stanley square tip driver, and a book (Oklahoma Gardener's Guide, not pictured) round out the day; $5.60 for all. Oh, and SWMBO spent three times that, but scored two nice pieces of wall art.

Went to an on location estate auction today. I suspect the family and friends cherry picked some of his collection. Still I ended up with some good stuff.

The craftsman pad lock was a nice surprise, it was buried in the bottom of a box lot.

I didn't find the little OTC puller until I started sorting, it was in the bottom of a bucket of plumbing fittings that was a no bid item that was included with the next lot which I bought.

No sure about these, but I thought they could be cleaned up, may end up being to pitted.

I saw a pair of those Utica gas pliers on GJ a few weeks ago and put them on my eBay watch list. They consistently going for $10+ on eBay and sometimes more than $20 in top condition. They come in three sizes: 6, 8 and 10.

Similar design to the Engineer/Vamplier screw pliers that are popular here, too.

My work load is killing my sales scores but I did manage a few items for 15 bucks today.

An ugly hammer head . Straight octagon and no maker marks. I normally wouldn't have looked twice but the shape of the eye interested me. I already tanked it this afternoon looking for a mark but no dice.

Miller Falls No. 188A push drill. It's cool because the bits are stored in the handle and you twist the cap to a number 1-8 for the size of point you want.

Capped awl or ice pick

Fulton scrapper plane- Pretty rough looking but checks out good so it should clean up very well. Not many of these out there.

Stopped by a sale today after helping a buddy fix his car. Saw a steady rest that will fit the Craftsman/Atlas lathe I received recently. It was in a box full of c-clamps and a cross vise ( I think that's what they are called ). While talking to the guy about a price, it comes up that he used to live with the guy I got the lathe from. Since he had no idea where he came up with these he said they must have been part of the lathe setup and he ended up with them after they moved out of their place, so he just gave them to me.

For got to add this. I'm trying to figure out what the item is that is solid square stock with 4 holes on one side and 4 holes on the other side ( two on the top and two on the bottom of each side ) with a big handle that pivots. It's towards the bottom left in the picture. I have no idea what it is and am curious.

First is a Williams 810 wrench 1 5/16 , seller told me it was used on injector nozzles on a molding machine.
Then some smalls, a Little Giant extinguisher, narrow wood chisel and 2 stubby wood handle drivers.
A cool TUFBOY tape, a Lufkin, and a Socket Keys for Spline Screws - The Bristol Company.
Also grabbed 2 vises today, a Colombian and a Simplex.

Got stuff at 2 planned stops today and one TOO.

The first planned stop was a ways out of town and I was a bit worried of driving all the way out for nothing. Didn't help when I was walking up to the garage and the seller says to someone 'I sold most of my tools last week to a frien' Great. He was right but he still had a few interesting things.

Got the Snap-On and Challenger by Proto (both Canada COO) and the Herbrand ratchet (first time I've seen one) for 5$ from him.

The Lufkin 10' tape came from another planned stop back in town for 1$.

The TOO was actually in my subdvision, and ended up costing me 25$.

6SP and 11SP Vise Grip C-clamps.
ETF ball pein hammer. Made in Canada and it's marked CNR (Canadian National Railway), likely came from the huge repair shop that was once in town.
Smaller needle nose pliers has no markings
Williams USA needle nose

zero stops today, and zero planned for tomorrow, I spent 12+ hours in the garage working on getting a home cleared for the "new" MATCO...

On track for that though!

Living vicariously though you guys during breaks and other "recovery" periods...

Cool stuff! Hope I didn't miss any astonishing deals this weekend!

I really like the style of the Plomb adjustable with the "PLVMB" and "PLVMBALVY" branding.
FYI, Gerard, these adjustables were made for Plomb by JP Danielson for many years. The JP Danielson version was branded the BET'R GRIP. This branding is in reference to their construction. With the jaw opened you'll see that it's square at the back. All other vintage adjustables (e.g., Crescent, Diamond, etc) have a slim hex piece there. The square throat allows for a much deeper bite on any fastener, square or hex. Utica is the only other mfgr that did this. Danielson was also one of only a small few mfgrs that broached a box end (usually 9/16, but I have seen other sizes) into the hanging hole. They are my favorite adjustable. Plomb liked them so much they bought the entire company in 1947. :D

Back from vacation this weekend and spotted an estate sale on a "12 acre horse farm" 20 minutes away. Since SWMBO was out hiking with a friend, I slid out to check it out. Not a lot there on day two, but I came away with the following:

REM/PRO tool chest stack, with contents--$250. Not a bargain, but it was originally marked at $399. The contents are what made me bite. The edger and rafter square were thrown in as part of the deal. Here's a sample from the stack:

296211d75a0f35f4f66feabfa81d3e9d.jpg

Mostly Craftsman socket tools, with a sprinkling of Snap-on, Bluepoint, S-K, and Mac. The 1/2" RHFT ratchet is a first.

3e30bc31c72583d7f562cc2f83fca38f.jpg

A decent selection of pliers and cutters, including Utica, C-man, Wiss, Bernard, Channellock and Stanley.

fbfedeab7cd29177f6c20e64799a604e.jpg

Quite a few drawers of the usual useful tool box detrus.

4bc30586c6a36bb94d0504b5a06f7e2a.jpg

The bottom cabinet had a drawer full of quality banging, hacking and wrenching tools, shown here on the tailgate. The Estwing hatchets and Snap-on torque wrench will bring a decent return on Ebay.

Nice score BB!

I got the MATCO in its place; I still need to get everything else back where it belongs then start moving stuff from the Husky 11 drawer, and several other places, and into the MATCO... there is so much space under it, I'll get/make some sliding trays for down there!

I'd get a better angle but the husky is blocking the way...

And this was before (old pic from the "old Fasteners" thread (best I could do I took no pics of the chaos...):

Thanks! Sort of tricky; I had < an inch either side getting past stuff at one spot. by myself and dang if I didn't almost put it in basakwards! I had one end in and starting to edge past and realized "Hey! the drawers are facing..." So I had to "drag" it in (fun, over top that 1/2" high "rain lip" my garage has at the edge... Thank god for BIG wheels (I'll need some help getting the Kennedy back in...)

2 estate sales and 3 garage sales and I got...a craftsman portable toolbox for $5. This summer has been real hit or miss, mostly miss as of late.
