It's early yet, and I got the MATCO in its place, all before 9:00 AM! I still need to get everything else back where it belongs then start moving stuff from the Husky 11 drawer, and several other places, and into the MATCO... there is so much space under it, I'll get/make some sliding trays for down there!

I'd get a better angle but the husky is blocking the way...

And this was before, with just a clip of the old Husky showing (old pic from the "old Fasteners" thread (best I could do I took no pics of the chaos...):

This was given to me, but I don't know much about it. I know the logo makes it older Snap On toolboxes. Can anyone tell me where to find the part numbers on the boxes? And the roller?

model and date codes should be stamped on the back of the boxes.

usually takes a bright light to see them...

nice score BTW

I'd like to read that, I have 2 drop fronts missing the keys.

I just saw this post.Somehow I skipped over it.For my Proto drop front Road Chest,Basically I took the lock out and sent it to a place called Keys for Things at keysforthings.net
They made me a new key and sent it back, with the lock.I had to send it to them since they could not find a match for the code on the lock. They also made spare keys for my MAC and Snap On boxes by matching up the codes on the keys. The guys there were great to deal with and made sure we got all the details right.
Getting the lock off the box is a story for another thread I will have to add pics to

That's an amazing you **** deal for $5. Pre-WWII with a pretty good handle still there and including the tray. The trays usually never survive in the old boxes I find.

Nice snag Sam!

Thanks fellas! I was sure someone was gonna bid against me, and I was prepared to pay at least $30 for it. It was empty so I guess every one was waiting for the other boxes of Chinese tools.

Getting to a sale as it opens doesnt always pay off, but it did for me today !
16 drawers of Matco goodness, my favorite style in fact. 510A 520A
It all works fine, has the big casters too.
Seller has a good price, and worked with me a little, I walked away with it for $125.
Within an hour I had it listed on CL, at a reasonable price.

I will go on being content with my Craftsman / Cornwell mix for now.
Sure looks good in the garage....

I did let an interesting 26" roller go, I stopped at $40. It had 3 drawers and a door that folded down. Wish I had snapped some pics, but when I went to leave the buyer had already loaded it. Handles were the drawer front folded down, and it did not have slides, it has roller wheels like a kitchen drawer? It did not have and emblem, but it had a Mac sticker on the side, like a dealer would give out. It was beat, but cool.

Love that stack RedVise, and the sticker is one I wish I had for my box.

Here's my contribution...

My dad bought an SK tool set in the late 50's or early 60's. It was his only tool box for many years and saw a lot of abuse getting brake fluid spilled on it, partly crushed by a car in my dad's tiny one car garage, being dragged across the concrete, sitting in puddles of water and accumulating rust. I just wish I had taken a before pic. As a result of GJ and some of the restoration work I've seen on here, I decided to try to restore it. I spent several hours with my body work hammers straightening out the corners and lid that no longer closed very well. then I stripped the old paint (it was half gone and crazed by brake fluid, and had paint splotches on it as well. It was rather ugly. Well here it is now.

Some of the hardware was beyond repair and had to be replaced. I tried to match the original as best I could. It's close but not perfect. Two of the "feet" were missing. A third was half gone, and the forth could have been salvaged but would have looked out of place by itself.
View media item 63370
I preserved the nameplate original lock latch and handle which were all in pretty good shape.

Here's the replacement hardware I installed

Original handle (painted of course)

Here's the inside! I have most of the original tool set. A few items were lost over the years and I should replace them ...

And here's the 1/4" drive set, unfortunately missing the ratchet...
View media item 63367View media item 63368
I even have a vintage lock that I put on for decoration - not for security!
View media item 63369
In about 1988 I bought dad a BIG Beach toolbox, as he had never had a real toolbox.
View media item 63376View media item 63377View media item 63378
I also have this vintage Beach "tackle box" with some obvious "crushing" damage. Interior tray is missing. This is my tire repair toolbox for now.
View media item 63379View media item 63380
Finally, this was my first toolbox which housed the ITC socket set (seen in my thread) for many years. It is still in great condition despite the thin sheet metal its made from. No visible name on it. I believe I bought it at some kind of a clearance center/harbour freight sort of place back in the 80's.
View media item 63372View media item 63373View media item 63374
Lastly, I came into this little box. Not sure what it's from? No name and some of divider holders have been removed. I don't know the age or brand. Any thoughts?

Send me a PM with what you need to bring your dad's S-K set back up to muster. I'll happily send them to you. 1/4" ratchet already set aside. I'd be honored to help.

This Cornwell belongs in this thread. It's at least 20 years old, if not 50. I refurbished it to make it more usable. (I'm not a big fan of flaking rust).

my dad bought that set of SK tools back in the late 50's, same knurled sockets, and the same box.
i still have most of the tools, unfortunately the box was misplaced 18 years ago :(

i had some luck checking pawn shops and flea mkts for the missing missing sockets from my set.

nice save BTW

Finally found a nice machinist chest. Metal shell over wood core. No decals or anything, so I don't know the maker. Doesn't matter. It's awesome.

Picked up this PROTO JUBILEE 75th Anniversary Edition top box at the auction the other day for 35 dollars. I need to clean it up, as it is pretty dirty. Slides work great. Box is 26" x 16" x 12". I was surprised that it still had the removable top tray. I wonder if they made a matching roller for it?

Great Score sgs!I picked up a similar Proto chest a few months ago off Craigslist. It is a bit newer than yours but from the same era.It was in very good shape except for the paint on the drop front.I paid a friend to do a rattle can paint job on and now the paint looks good.
Did your box come with a key? If not I can refer you to someone who can hook you up with a key.

paulm12 - The drawers are nice, but then I don't have anything to compare them to. Some of the drawer bottoms have been replaced, and it's obvious. I'll take more pictures some time this week.

here is my beauty that was my grandfathers that he made from scratch it is all hand riveted and soldered joints . I have had this up in my attic for 22 years and thought it would have to get put back in use! I really debated about leaving the patina that it had got over the years but decided to powder coat it but I left the dents in it just as a remembrance of the work that this thing has been through. now it is front and center on my newly restored pullmax machine!

Love to have that box to go with my Proto roller, would be a good match.

That's a real keeper being made by your grandfather. "Ole Rivets" I'd have to call it.

Unfortunately some PO painted over the flying lady logo, but it's under there. Probably going to leave it as is, paint is flaking badly on the lid anyway. Wrinkle red finish, some rust on the underside, and sides.
