Lovin the space ship tool box. Very Cool.
Thats another part of my little Australian made collection. Ive just finished restoring it actually. Ill post in that thread shortly.Amrjon, that is a cool little toolbox! I'd also like to see more pics of your drill press! there is a Thread for that as well: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116677&highlight=show+drill+press

This was given to me, but I don't know much about it. I know the logo makes it older Snap On toolboxes. Can anyone tell me where to find the part numbers on the boxes? And the roller?
I'd like to read that, I have 2 drop fronts missing the keys.
I just saw this post.Somehow I skipped over it.For my Proto drop front Road Chest,Basically I took the lock out and sent it to a place called Keys for Things at keysforthings.net
They made me a new key and sent it back, with the lock.I had to send it to them since they could not find a match for the code on the lock. They also made spare keys for my MAC and Snap On boxes by matching up the codes on the keys. The guys there were great to deal with and made sure we got all the details right.
Getting the lock off the box is a story for another thread I will have to add pics to
model and date codes should be stamped on the back of the boxes.
usually takes a bright light to see them...
nice score BTW

Yep, back side, usually lower right corner area, as seen from the back.
From the 70's. KR537 top, KR557 bottom, KR274 side.
Nice snag Sam!
That's an amazing you **** deal for $5. Pre-WWII with a pretty good handle still there and including the tray. The trays usually never survive in the old boxes I find.
Nice snag Sam!

Nice! I'm gonna come back up and sneak in and hide in the back one of these days......and laugh like crazy! Thanks fellas! I was sure someone was gonna bid against me, and I was prepared to pay at least $30 for it. It was empty so I guess every one was waiting for the other boxes of Chinese tools.

Getting to a sale as it opens doesnt always pay off, but it did for me today !
16 drawers of Matco goodness, my favorite style in fact. 510A 520A
It all works fine, has the big casters too.
Seller has a good price, and worked with me a little, I walked away with it for $125.
Within an hour I had it listed on CL, at a reasonable price.
I will go on being content with my Craftsman / Cornwell mix for now.
Sure looks good in the garage....

Here's my contribution...
My dad bought an SK tool set in the late 50's or early 60's. It was his only tool box for many years and saw a lot of abuse getting brake fluid spilled on it, partly crushed by a car in my dad's tiny one car garage, being dragged across the concrete, sitting in puddles of water and accumulating rust. I just wish I had taken a before pic. As a result of GJ and some of the restoration work I've seen on here, I decided to try to restore it. I spent several hours with my body work hammers straightening out the corners and lid that no longer closed very well. then I stripped the old paint (it was half gone and crazed by brake fluid, and had paint splotches on it as well. It was rather ugly. Well here it is now.
Finally, this was my first toolbox which housed the ITC socket set (seen in my thread) for many years. It is still in great condition despite the thin sheet metal its made from. No visible name on it. I believe I bought it at some kind of a clearance center/harbour freight sort of place back in the 80's.

This Cornwell belongs in this thread. It's at least 20 years old, if not 50. I refurbished it to make it more usable. (I'm not a big fan of flaking rust).

I preserved the nameplate original lock latch and handle which were all in pretty good shape.

Here's the inside! I have most of the original tool set. A few items were lost over the years and I should replace them ...

Cheers!

that box is a test rite.
i had one just like it. it was my 1st stand alone(non carry) box.
i got mine from some antique/junk shop maybe 20/25 years ago for about 80 bucks w/ tools in it.
i outgrew it pretty quick and gave it away a looong time ago.
Finally found a nice machinist chest. Metal shell over wood core. No decals or anything, so I don't know the maker. Doesn't matter. It's awesome.

Great Score sgs!I picked up a similar Proto chest a few months ago off Craigslist. It is a bit newer than yours but from the same era.It was in very good shape except for the paint on the drop front.I paid a friend to do a rattle can paint job on and now the paint looks good.Picked up this PROTO JUBILEE 75th Anniversary Edition top box at the auction the other day for 35 dollars. I need to clean it up, as it is pretty dirty. Slides work great. Box is 26" x 16" x 12". I was surprised that it still had the removable top tray. I wonder if they made a matching roller for it?

here is my beauty that was my grandfathers that he made from scratch it is all hand riveted and soldered joints . I have had this up in my attic for 22 years and thought it would have to get put back in use! I really debated about leaving the patina that it had got over the years but decided to powder coat it but I left the dents in it just as a remembrance of the work that this thing has been through. now it is front and center on my newly restored pullmax machine!

your grandfather made that? I don't think there is a more awesomer vintage box on this whole site.
