Nice score! Out of curiosity, which ReStore location are you visiting? I'm curious if we are competing at the same store(s).

-----------------------------------------

I brought home two items last night.

The first is from a CL ad - a Craftsman 3D tool chest dated December, 1970. $20

After buying the tool chest, I drove to ReStore and bought this wall hanging tool cabinet for $2 (half price day). It looks a lot like the Craftsman cabinet, but has no identifying marks except the scant remains of a decal on the front door. Does anyone recognize it?

It was a great day!

Brian

That looks like a woodworking tools cabinet. Stanley?

Picked up the S-K box and 1/2 breaker bar today for 12 bucks. The box is in decent shape, needs cleaned. Any ideas who the maker of the breaker bar might be? I've got a Williams 3/8 just like it, guessing they might be the maker. The last pic is a Remington boy scout knife I got for 6 bucks. I posted it on a Facebook group, and was told it was made in the 30s-40s. One in perfect condition was worth 350 or so. Mine is well used.

Wow. That's a bargain. I've got a speeder and a breaker bar like in your set, and I think I paid more than your whole set - I didn't get a box with them, either.

Every time my daughter comes in my shop she says I have a "clamp problem."

Tell her "Yes I do. I never seem to have enough of them."

Stopped in at a TOO this morning (ok, I admit I took the long way to get to the store because I had an inkling). The prices were high on most items. Picked up a well used 6yo DeWalt DC835(??) 14.4v impact driver (no battery). He wanted $25 but settled for $15. Works great.

Here are a few of my finds from this morning.

Schrade 855 knife in like new condition.
Estate sales 9-16-2016

Some cool old oilers from Esso
Estate sales 9-16-2016

Nothing too special here; paid a buck for all of it. The old wrench is marked with a B and no other apparent markings except for the size

Estate sales 9-16-2016

Next stop I found some Channellock pliers, Craftsman slip joint pliers, small ratcheting screwdriver

Estate sales 9-16-2016

Wrenches and sockets, 4" Diamond, 6" Proto, 8" Proto, 8" McKaig-Hatch adjustable wrenches, a Williams Superrench and a few sockets, a couple of C-man and a Snap-on

Estate sales 9-16-2016

and for the super find of the day some old rusty wrenches
Estate sales 9-16-2016

But wait, what do these go to? Jaguar...interesting looks like they were part of a Jaguar tool kit and are worth a a fair bit more than I paid for the lot.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up some wooden leather working tools . Or at least that is what they were sold as. Sure enough they were leather tools ... all but one. It turns out the tall two piece one is a tool for installing corks in bottles. It's a corker! You have to boil the corks first and while they are hot and wet you slip them into the chamber then push the plunger down to install the cork! Pretty neat thing... I'm glad I picked it up. No wonder I like going to sales so much :willy_nil You truly never know what you can find

Thanks... I've never seen a "corker before either. One of my rules while at sales is that if I see a tool that I don't know what it is or have never seen one I buy it . It's really taught me a lot about many things over the years.

Community garage sale. I found 15 pounds of drill bits with a few milling cutters in a steel carry box for $15. Another stop netted a Digimatic with spare batteries for $7.

Ace is similar to Craftsman, in that they don't make their own tools. They contract with various tool manufacturers and have their name put on the tools. So, to answer your question, it depends on who made the tool for Ace Hardware.

In general, Ace branded tools (especially the older US made tools) are good homeowner quality with a few being better and a few being less. Either way, if it gets the job done then you did ok. If the tool doesn't get the job done, then you aren't out a bucket load of money.

I used so go that sporting goods store when I lived down there. Can't remember what street it is on but don't think it is located at the address on the sign. That sign is old so they must have moved when they got bigger  Looks like you picked up some good plvmb and a good old school flannel shirt. Post up some pics of those when you have a moment:bowdown:

This morning’s haul…

20160917_101009_zpsjra7ei90.jpg

A Luther-made heavy duty Type A 6-inch hand power bench grinder, a couple no-flag-ends stencil brushes, a LECTROLITE DEFIANCE, O. “LECTROMIUM” tappet wrench, a Ford GP spark plug and cylinder head wrench, and a very interesting book published in 1943.

And yesterday’s haul…

20160917_095207_zps8um1dw1o.jpg

Everything is wartime, including the box, the rawhide mallet, the M33 Instrument Light (for a mortar site), the wrenches (Crafty CI, Bonney H18), American Swiss 6-inch smooth half-rounder file, the 115V soldering irons, and the canvas sling. The Boynton’s adjustable alligator wrench was patented in 1887 and the Walden Tomahawk triple (1/2 x 5/8 x 5/8) socket wrench is also early century.

Does anyone recognize this? My best guess is some kind of trimmer’s (upholsterer’s) or saddler’s punch. Marked “USM” and an 8 in a circle (perhaps a length) just behind the pivot.

Lug, although the script/logo is not a match to what shows on the Alloy Artifacts site, given your suspicion that it is for leather work, I would suggest United Shoe Machinery Corporation.
Do the two pins seat into holes on the anvil, or is it flat? And do the pins flex the spring, or are they solid in the jaws?

E.J. MacAleer was located at 1422 N 8th Street in Philadelphia. Pretty blighted-looking on GoogleMaps today.

And yes, that pre-induction machines book is supercool!

Update: I think Outlaw is correct about what it is, and I about who made it.
Here's one for sale on eBay for $6+$13.50 shipping fee. http://m.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-VINTA...N-HOLE-PUNCH-TOOL-38-/311696388511?nav=SEARCH
In those photos it looks like the two pins are actually a single u-shape held under the spring.
Also spotted two cobbler hammers with same USM marking that have sold on etsy.

top: Thks for update on those leather tools, including the corker.

Ford Utility Multi-Wrench

[Barcalo Ford Utility Multi-Wrench]
Fig. 53. Barcalo Ford Utility Multi-Wrench, ca. 1930s.

Fig. 53 shows a Barcalo specialty multi-wrench intended for Ford service applications, stamped "Barcalo-Buffalo, U.S.A." and "Patent No. 1,870,612" on the shank.

The overall length is 10.3 inches, and the finish is cadmium plating.

The tool is marked for patent #1,870,612, issued in 1932 to A. DeSchebeko.

This wrench is listed in the 1934 catalog No. 22 as a "Ford Utility Wrench", and the description notes that it fits 15 different service parts on Ford models "A", "B", and V-8, including spark plugs, brakes, and drain plugs. The openings are, from left to right, 5/8 square, 7/16 double-square, 7/8 hex, 3/8 square plug, and 1-1/8 hex.

Lugz the Boynton's wrench and the book look really neat.

Indestro 1/4 set
TRW 5/8 swivel plug socket
Beautiful Tubelox ratchet
Vulcan 3/8
Williams 3/8 (I cant seem to get enough of these)
Proto Challenger 1/2
Armstrong 1/2
Husky 1/2

Pics 5-7 I then went to an estate sale. 50% off day. I got all the tools for $20 including a K-D ratchet and Craftsman 1/2" drive metric impact set and 1/4 socket set and extras,Husky swivel, Snap On 3/8 speeder, Vulcan screw starter, generic tie rod tool and 02 sensor socket,Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver, S-K red handle 1/4 driver, Bonney open end wrench, Blue point dust boot pliers,

Unknown red wrench or handle???- definitely a whatsit

Not a garage sale, but an estate auction. Got a box of miscellaneous tools for $10. It included:
8 pc Mac wood handle screwdriver set
Small Craftsman ball pein hammer
Small soft face hammer, can't tell the name but does say Los Angeles, CA
Magic Marker
Gardner Bender three size tapping tool
Rosco Phillips screwdriver
6 pic precision screwdriver set - Moody, Prov. RI
6" New Britain adjustable wrench
Deep C clamp, Brink & Colton #7 - USA
2 red Stanley C clamps
2 small pairs of dykes. Cam-Ron. US
Needle nose pliers. No markings
Diamaloy linesman pliers
Craftsman DOE wrench 3/8 - 7/16
3 small files w/handle
Warner drywall knife
3 torch tips
Torch sparker

This is a two day auction with the majority of the tools tomorrow. I think I'll be going back.

You guys got some great finds today!

Lug you are really scooping up the wartime stuff! And be careful about those hand powered grinders, you could end up with a herd! :ninja: the book is cool I have my dad's service mechanics training books from when he was in Korea. I think the odd punch is a double hole punch for sewing buttons onto leather or a heavy staple?

Mike I also got another lantern. not as cool as yours though

First worthwhile stop (i only had 5 planned) MAC Combo Truecraft knurled extension - I'l toss this on in the road box, Craftsman planishing Hammer and a Streamline shrinking hammer. $3 all (even more surprising as the wanted $40 for a Hitachi angle grinder.. and most EVERYTHING was over the top prices..)

attachment.php

An Estate sale:

Sears, probably Craftsman Table Saw insert - NIB, 3 drivers - one a SO, a leather wheel, a cool old aluminum folding travel cup, and also cool, a set of 4 travel shot glasses with a leather case, a B&C C clamp, and a self centering, spring loaded center punch - I think this is for door hinges, as its for countersunk holes

attachment.php

And also from the Estate sale, a Primus 3 lb 4 oz Prop tank. my second one of these. These may go camping soon! This one is full. I also have one that is a squat version of this. each is > 3 of the disposable bottles.

Six bucks all told at the Estate sale.

attachment.php

Another Yard sale: an Indestro wrench - Free, and the lantern was two bucks. I'll probably use the tank on one of my little back packers lanterns to give a good fuel supply and pressure that doesn't drop off in an hour, and probably fill once and use for a week...

attachment.php

Last was a TOO this Champion juicer cost my all of $10! I'll probably resell this one as SWMBO doesn't want one...

We hit the Church Rummage Sale REALLY Late today and I came away with 2 keepers. I found a Herbrand J-10 Ratchet in really fine shape and a Blitz gas can.

I put an extra EZ-Pour spout on the Blitz (It had the remains of the EPA spout and no vent) and cleaned it - it was really dirty. The Blitz will be filled with Stabil-ized Gas and given to my Dad as he's short on storage capacity.

The Herbrand is really nice - just a tiny bit of damage on the tear drop.

Cheers

Jim

Outlaw, is that burgundy-handled screwdriver a Bridgeport? Also looks a bit like Defiance by Stanley.

Some good finds out there this weekend. Not much in the way of tools here with the rain. Only a nice 10" Stillson pipe wrench, file and a stack of metal bread pans that work really well for sorting things in the shop. I did find two 1950s German tin toys - gas and train stations.20160916_171131.jpg88456c7b55c6f3ec1874b76f29ba1fc4.jpgIMG_20160916_174837.jpgIMG_20160916_175037.jpg

Bread and pie tins make excellent organizer bins. Good grab.

Slept in this morning to recover from the lousy week I had.
Went to a late starting yard sale about 2 hours after opening. Plenty of good stuff left, but not much I was interested in. Two air movers had me thinking of Nine's, but I was afraid to ask the price.

Here's what I walked away with for $10.
List to follow.

Here's the list :

- Kraeuter 16" carry box (empty)
- Packer Auto Specialty Co. (trademarked "RAY" logo) stamped steel socket set (almost complete, one broken socket)
- SK-Wayne 1/4dr socket box (empty)
- asst. cotter pins

Originally, I thought the Packer set was for plumbing/gas fittings until I got it home and lightly cleaned the ratchet to find the stampings. Imagine my surprise to find a Packer kit instead. :yikes: :bounce:

The only reason I grabbed the Kraeuter box was because I had never seen one around here before. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. At worst, the handle would be good for repairing an old Craftsman box if I need it. :dunno:

Opened boxes :

Slim pickens again... all I managed was a single Proto 5450 1/2 ratchet for $2.00 bucks . Here lately ever ad listing tools has a screw driver , hammer and a beat up hand saw. I may have to start going back to farm auctions:3gears:
