Habitat for Humanity's ReStore thrift store is a regular stop for me. Here's some photos of a few items I've picked up in the past week. Every day this week was half price with 3 cans of food donations. Original prices listed, but I paid half.

- Craftsman "circular saw filing vise" in original box ($3)
- Craftsman circular saw set ($3)
- Stanley bevel that is like new ($1)
- Vintage grinding wheel dressing stick ($2)
- Craftsman 24" aluminum level ($3)
- Craftsman coping saw blades ($.50)
- Wizard coping saw blades ($.50)
- Starrett feeler gauge stock ($1)
- Starrett tap/drill index card (free)
- Unknown right angle screwdriver. This thing is seriously heavy duty - the best I have ever owned! ($.50)
- Craftsman wood boring bits ($3)

Total paid: $8.50

Stopped by a G-sale today, and he had 3 vises, a Milwaukee Equipment and Tool, 3 1/2" Red in color, didn't say it was made is USA, but did have the metal plate on the side having the Milwaukee Equipment and Tool logo and address. Weighted about 10 lbs or so. Noticed no zip code on the address, so that is telling me it was pre-1963. Pretty good shape, but the jaws need to be replaced. The other 2 were smaller and no names. The smallest was a clamp on (like you connect to a stud.) Was gonna take a pic with the phone, but it don't work with the pc. Really old flip phone.

Anyway the price was $10 for the Milwaukee, $5 for the middle and $2 for the small one.

I'm new to the vise world, so didn't know if this was an old Japan one or not, leaning toward not, and really don't need another vise, since the p/u of the Rock Island a couple of months ago.

So are you guys going to ***** slap me and tell me to haul a$$ tomorrow to get it, or is it that good of a vise?

At 10 lbs or so it's most likely a homeowner's exposed screw vise. $10 is more than I would pay, unless it was something unique. Being Milwaukee, it's most likely US made.

Hard to make a judgement without pics.

Outlaw......yes it did have the exposed screw, glad I didn't get it. Really need to upgrade the phones....all it takes is money.

Thanks for the reply.

You guys have been doing great on the finds lately, me not so much. But one estate sale tomorrow is an upholstery business that closed and the pictures are making me salivate! Time to get to bed!

Duro 651D speeder, Eagle pump oiler/filler, geometric underline Crafty Vanadium offset DBE, bunches of letterset punches, misc 1/2-inch drive sockets incl Crafty (H) 7/8, Plomb 5418-S 9/16, Herbrand PE-32 11/16 6-pt, Bonney CV D24 3/4, and a "G.M.CO" (?) 5-8. I've seen the wide slot at the base of this very shallow socket before, just have to remember where. The long 15* pattern DBE, obscured by the BHM DOE wrench, is a Plomb 1161 (1-1/2 x 1-7/16).

Unknown brand Vintage Impact Wrench that works. The identification plate has been rubbed bare, can't read anything on it.

And a shop built fan built from an air conditioner motor
i-nLxtDB7-M.jpg

I'm planning to strip it down and repaint it, build a cage to encompass the blades, and add an on/off switch. I might put a roll around base on it and use it as a shop fan.

The plate on the back says 230v 2.2a, but it's wired for 110. The wife of the gentleman who built it said he has been using it for years in his shop. It moves a lot of air.

Got rained out of the field so I spent the day tool shopping. Picked up a snapon 3/8 metric deep impact set 30$, free wrench rolls and wrench rack, The little ratchet is a Hinsdale 3/8 and the other is a IND SUper 3/8. the teeth on the Hinsdale are in poor shape. Utica Pliers, some oddball screwdriver that says 3M on the plastic tip no Idea what its for. New hose for one of the old greese guns, Proto adjustable wrench, pair of ball bearing drawer slides, a couple sockets and wrenches. 18$ for the table other than the snappy set. not a bad day tool hunting

Niiiice stuff, gents! I'm on a Scout outing this weekend, biking a hundred miles to Woods Hole, then taking the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The only bad part of the trip is that I just know I'll be biking past bunches of sales with no time to stop.

Good luck to the rest of you!!

I stopped by a shop that does prototype work for my company, and on the way out, the owner catches me and said they are doing some cleaning and had an employee sale. Walks me over to a table of the leftovers and asked me what I want. Nothing spectacular, but the price was right.

That PowePal is a great little unit. It's noisy, but still comes in handy. I mostly use mine to blow out the water pipes at my camp when I close it for the winter. It keeps me from having to drag a larger unit up with me when I'm packing the truck for the trip.

It's also good for quick little inflating jobs when I don't feel like charging the big compressor to fill a handcart wheel.

Thanks Jakemac, I was thinking it would be good for small jobs outside the garage and easier to grab a extension cord right by the garage door than to stretch out my long air hose. I also want to see if it will be good for a little air brushing work.

Came home almost empty handed today. Picked this up for $2 just cuz. It apears to be a hydraulic hose clamp, it leaks out of the slave cylinder though.

For my usual morning run, I got

hh-animals-skunk-5
ed

All was not lost though: I had to make a noon hardware store run, and got these at two TOOs:

Sight gauge (vented so NOT for flammable liquids...) and a pair of Wiss 17's - these are the first pair of that model Wiss I've picked up.

attachment.php

And at a second stop a small aluminum Guardian 7" dutch oven. This one will go into my smaller, lighter, camp setup, as I had a lid I bought at a thrift for something else that didn't work out, but fits this decently:

I admit I'm not a proctologist, but I had no idea you needed drill bits for your ***.

When I saw that big drill bit in there it definitely made me think twice about bending over. :eyecrazy:

We definitely had a lot of fun with the lady who collects your money when picking up.

Nice finds guys!

Top, I suspect that backpackers stove is a Primus/Swedish made white gas stove? closeups of it setup? It might also be alcohol fueled... So check into it before playing with fire.

Where did you find the Challenger set Brian?

I got over to the blind store and picked up a couple of items. Packing tape, a clock, and some aerosols. Best deal of the day was a generator for $80. Didn't know if it worked but lo and behold a gallon of fresh gas and it fired up second pull. Score. Other prizes included an electronic scale, mac timing light, spray gun and a box of terminals. Last stop had a bunch of mil surplus and related stuff. Today was the first of what promises to be several good sales. I came away with a few Coleman lantern spares and a camp cooking set.

Small anvil was 5$ at one sale. Looks to be in great shape, but it will need a good cleaning. It's got everything but the kitchen sink stuck to it. Can't see any maker's mark on it but hoping there is one underneath the (many) layers of crud.

14" Ridgid and Will screwdriver fo 2.25$ at another sale.

Oh yeah it's white gas fueled...I can't make out much on the label about the maker other than Phoenix which is probably just the model

Tim: under all that paint and crud looks like you found an amazingly perfect anvil. i can see sharp edges and not any flaws to speak of so let us see it after you strip it maybe over on the anvil thread in general garage section. nice find and yes you didn't pay too much for it. WELL DONE!!

GI: can't say i've ever seen one like that and nice find. where do you live and if you want you can go in your GJ profile and put in your location and if you have a favorite picture you'd like to see under your GI handle just click on Avatar and download one like i did with a Bison made out of old scrap steel and tools.

ALL: i picked up a Hodgepodge of stuff today and i'll get pictures in the morning. 3/4 Hp block and a 3 or 3.5 inch Columbian are among some of the items.

hope you are all having a great weekend.
