I build wiring harnesses for early model Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers as a side hobby. I do not think I could do that for a living. So I know what you mean about taking on what you love to do as a hobby, as a real job. It would just take all the "fun" out of it.

The Land Cruiser harnesses I build are dirt simple compared to what you faced with the EcoBoost wiring! My problem is sourcing the no longer made connectors. I am very impressed with what you and Walt did!

Keep up the great work! With your level of karma, you will get that job! :3gears:

Eco 1 I was on my own on the wiring. Eco 2 Walt did. He could do that stuff in his sleep. For me it was way above my pay grade . .

Any pics of the FJ40 harnesses you do?

Assuming you've tried to Google the former boss and find contact info, also try looking on Linked In or other similar professional type sites. Many people at least open such an account with basic email contact info available even if they don't actively update it. It could lead to an email which then leads to a phone number.
If you Google this boss first by name look for any sites like Linked In that he's listed under. That link may allow you to view his basic page info without registering for the actual site.

https://www.linkedin.com

PS. Just scrolled back and read/looked through the latest update and great pics in action. the truck looks great and I bet a real thrill to drive it. Any car show you attend be ready for a constant stream of questions as you have definitely broken new ground with this build.
CONGRATS!

I was very surprised at the interest while at Scottsdale Pavilions. Steady stream of questions.

I did find the guy on LinkediN but the company has 70,000 employees. So far no luck with email. Have friend who is a private eye. He is searching for info too.

TW, I was at So Cal car/swap last Saturday also. I got there early & was parked in the back. Would have loved to see your ride. When I got out front you had gone. Some day I will see it!
Interesting . . I was there until about 8:40 AM. It was pretty much cleared out when I left. I walked the place a couple times and probably walked right by you. What were you driving? I prob have a pic as took a few out back . .

Must agree, sure is good to see you posting again. I was beginning to worry, actually I was working you might not make it back here. Trusting your future job pursuit will work out!

You can find lots of people on Facebook. Sometimes by searching for people they know and then looking through their friends list if they don't have that info blocked. Search for the wife, brother/sister, child or parent.

Thanks!

TW,I was driving my 67 Chevelle, I was parked in front of the pick ups you photographed.

Nice car & had no clue it was yours. It was shoulder to shoulder people at the time. I arrived pretty late & was not long after people started to clear out. I had forgot it started at 6 am

Thanks! I was excited about the job for a time but then things changed for multiple reasons. I never followed up with further info as decided it was not what I really wanted. It was a 4pm to 1:30 AM job working for a GM company. Which means I would need to leave home at around 3 pm and not return until close to 2:30 am each day. I need to finish my current 3 truck projects & use them as calling cards. Maybe hire someone, expand . .Be my own boss. I just need to learn how to charge enough instead off all the freebies . .

Social security will give you a print out of all places that you have worked since you've had a social security number.

I simply decided it was not what I wanted to do. Will keep my eye open.

The company he worked for has 70,000 plus employees. He is near the top in the food chain. Actually did track him down but did not relay the info as decided not what I wanted . .

So glad to see you back TW. Really look foreword to your posts. Hope the job comes through for you.

Thanks!

Nothing like attending a car show in bare metal!

And by the looks of it it will stay that way for a while. Got rained on a bit yesterday but just wiped it down . . LOL

I really need to concentrate on getting Eco 1 more complete, Eco 2 on the road and 427 Shorty actually running and driving. Then go from there.

Just so cramped for space. Tools, Equipment and extra parts take up most of my space. Just no room to really work.

Maybe I should just take up rock collecting or fishing . .

This is good advice. I just got the paper from Social Security in the mail last month that lists how much you made each year. I don't know if it lists locations though- I have to say, I love seeing that truck in bare steel. I can't imagine that thing would last three hours in Ohio humidity before it rusted. I would clear coat it and run it, but you don't even have to do that...

Hope the job works out for you! Since you'll be so busy- If you need someone to take Eco 2 off your plate- I could find a home :)

It will most likely be bare metal for quite some time. I want other trucks to run n drive first.

Posting pics from phone a bit of a learning curve.

Added a stainless no-cat downpipe thinking it would help a bit for power and get rid of excessive heat.

What undercarriage looks like.

stop and enjoy the moment, very nice work!

Awesome great to see you back!!!!

Thanks!

Not sure where the time goes but nearly 2wks since last post.

Most of that last couple weeks has been chasing after the RAT issue that is here. Many hours and many $$ and as soon as i think I have a handle on it find 2 more.

Tonight I walk out to check a battery in my friends Motorhome and I hear a noise in the muffler I recently took off of Eco 1. Of course its a rat building a nest inside and its right next to shop out front. I quickly found a plug for one end and stuck the hose in the other end . . . Will have to throw out that muffler.

I also had a couple sticky traps out and found another in a sticky trap with another that ran around corner as I approached.

They are destroying the yard digging all the holes.

When we bought the house it had been abandoned for 2 1/2 yrs and have been unable in 5yrs now to get rid of them. They are busy hauling stuff from neighbors not trimmed palm trees over into my yard.

They chewed a vehicle wiring for first time and made a MAJOR sized nest under the Motorhome. Chewed up the seal for slide outs and got inside of MotorHome. Squirrels under it too. I could have had Eco 2 running for the amount of time spent on RATS so far.

i have a problem with squirrels digging up my yard burying acorns from our oak tree in my brand new lawn! I have a dog so i can't use poison. I am using critter ridder on the trees and fence high up but it doesn't seem to help. I feel your pain!

I feel your pain as well. ~2 months ago had my FIL's car at our house over the weekend so I parked my truck along the neighbors fence. Came out that Monday morning to go to work, reached in from the passenger's side to start it up while I put some stuff in the back, as I walked around the back of the truck it started making a loud noise so ran up to turn it off. Apparently there was a HUGE rat in the engine compartment that climbed between the radiator and the fan and as soon as the fan turned on it destroyed the fan, shroud, and radiator. $2500 repair

We had two living in our garage about a month before the above incident, one is dead in the wall and the other ran off out the door which I suspect could be the one that ended up in the fan. Prior to the fan incident we asked our pest control guy about the rats and he asked how long after the chickens next door showed up did we strat getting rats. Basically he said we got rats because of the neighbors chickens.

More updates on the way . . Trying to solve the Heat~A/C issue now along with what to do with all the tools and equip taking up much needed floor space.

So far the hints I can give are '56 Ford Truck & a Couple photo's.

Yep, That's a nice Original Paint F-350. But the big mystery is what will replace the Stock 460 other than maybe something with 4x the HP? It will be "gas" powered but will take more than just a "LITTLE" Fabrication to work. Kinda like the Eco Projects, Jump in and make plans as you go.

Wife & I took Eco 1 out to dinner for our 24th Anniversary.

I installed a Class V hitch on Eco 1 so I can actually put it to work & will become my daily driver until Eco 2 is on the road. Approx 1300 miles so far. But, Very important need to get the "tune" finalized then maybe test it on 1/4 Mi. once weather cools some more. Feels much stronger than my Supercharged 5.0 Ranger and that ran 110 MPH 1/4.

Class V hitch good for 10,500 lbs. I will probably limit closer to 9000 lbs towing.

It was a bit of work to have the Factory Heavy Duty hitch installed to fit properly. A slight bit of trimming for the late model bumper brackets did the trick.

Seems like we are closing in on the "Rat" issue. Not seeing any but the signs are they are still around.

Trying to clear up stuff on property for them to hide in. But they love holes in ground and are very difficult to catch. Sticky Traps seem to have the best effect when in proper placement.

Things are happening very slowly around here but plugging away . .

Trying to get things done outside prior to it cooling so much I no longer want to be outside. The magic temp for me is around 60 deg. Anything less its too cold Spoiled yeah . .

Finally, a Good Update!

One cannot give a big enough THANKS! To a "Out of State" A/C Company who has made this all possible. Its been many month long struggle on how to get Heat & A/C Into shop.
Happening now!

Early this morning I went to a local A/C distributor and picked up A/C & heat units that should cover BOTH shops! So far it looks like great stuff. Of course to save install $$ Once again friends showed up to go over the Install which will happen this week. Hope is by end of this week all will be installed. This should give heat & A/C to both shops.

1st time towing with Eco 1 which has now turned into my "daily driver". Best "daily" EVER! Makes parts chasing actually FUN.

Eventually the plan is to "Restore" this '66 box trailer. Lower it, strip to bare metal to match Eco 1 for now. Little things when time allows with very minimal $$ Input.

Doing "Split System" on one which will be a 3 Ton (Two 1 1/2 Ton Units) and one 2 Ton Unit. The Split system 2 18,000 BTU units will go on main work area. The 2 Ton Unit will go on Second shop stall where 4 post hoist is.

One unit is a 18 SEER the other is a Variable Speed 16-18 SEER Unit. Time will tell how well they work.

IMG_8125.jpg

IMG_8124.jpg

These units all told will take only 40 AMPS! (20 EA) This will be a tremendous help as current units take 1 @ 40 AMPS and 2 @ 20 ea. Never could run all at one time. Especially if I had Air Compressor running or say a Welder.

Still having issues with my Photo Bucket account like every new month it simply does not work properly. No Auto Uploads.

Eco 2:

In order to get the BJB in proper location and yet clear the engine I had to modify the Right apron "slightly" . In order for wires to reach proper location the BJB had to be in one specific spot. That spot the wires were interfering with location.

Spotted a header tube on floor and had the hmmm I wonder if I cut off part of pipe it would help the wires clear. Only one way to find out! Left over header tube from '66 427 Truck.

Eco 1 still in "tuning" mode. Sent off some more Data Log files for tuner to review, adjust and send back.

Outstanding! Thanks for the update!

Hey TW - Congratulations to you and Mrs. TW on your anniversary! Also, it's great so see you out in the shop working your magic again.

THANKS!

Another great update . . All A/C units now up and running. Within 10 min of first startup I checked outlet temp on one but it was blowing 43.5 deg!

Better go shut them off or I will be able to hang meat in shop soon.

Have not tried the HEAT yet but its gotta work.

First issue with Eco 1 today. Loaded in the "Stock Tune" and it had trouble starting. Check engine light on.

Which reminds me better go pull it back in for the night . .

TW -

What's the story on the '56? They are beautiful trucks, but I thought Eco 2 and the 427 truck were up next?

'56 is a already started project by a forum member.
It's already painted. Needs final Assy. It will be powered by a new
93-95 Lightning 351w crate engine that's never been fired.

I will also be building a Twin TurboCharged Big inch boss 429 engine for a truck
Seen in prior photos.

But, first need to make improvements on shop space by shuffling things around a bit. Move my "office" outside of garage.

Really chomping at the bit waiting to get back on eco 2.

I now have tune v5 for Eco 1. More data logging to be done

Interesting choice. There is definitely a "cool factor" to the old, unfired motor, but at 245 HP even the new 2.7 Ecoboost makes much more power. Seems like a lot of effort to install a "subpar" motor by today's standards.

The project was started 23 years ago when the Lightning engine was Current model year . . Like all of my projects. A lot of time goes by before completion.

My Orange/White truck Project is going on 17 yrs.

I need a crew of about 10 people for 30 days to get caught up a bit! LOL

One good thing when they are all apart I seldom sell a "Project"

Dad's '66 F-100 when It was only a couple weeks old. Early November 1965.

Dad's Truck When it was approx 10 yrs old.

Illustration for the Tribute Truck or Eco 1 Done by Stephanie Isidro

Dad purchased his truck October 10, 1965 so its just past a 51st Birthday.

My goal was to replicate the exterior to look exactly like dad's with of course a few minor mods like Narrowed front bumper, bumper opening for the Intercooler, Fog Lamps and of course the Mandatory 18" Wheels to clear the large 14" rotors. And of course keep the same Hub Cab dad had on his truck.

Huge Thanks to Stephanie from Stephanie Isidro Illustrations for nailing the look & background.

Eco 1 Update: Still tinkering & trying to finalize the "Tune". Things are not moving along as fast as I would like but very slow progress is being made.

I have approx 1600 miles on it so far. I will continue to "tweak" it along with hoping to get Eco 2 on the road within 30 days. More accurate would be to triple that as my timelines never seem to work out. I guess that means by the end of the year.

A/C & Heat now in garage. Works wonderful!

Cool Air Mechanical in ANchorage, AK got the ball rolling . .

I picked up the packages from local warehouse and to save $$ on install a friend helped install them. I made the lines out of bulk material. Lets hope they do not leak! I did the soapy water spray and all seems well.

Unit 1 is a 3 Ton Split unit with up to 4 separate wall units possible. My system designed for use of only 2 wall units 1.5 Ton each. Unit 2 is a 2 Ton Unit with a single 2 Ton wall unit. Having a 18 SEER rating I found the single 2 Ton unit can easily keep cool 1000 sq ft of uninsulated space! I could feel COLD air 35' away over the weekend with temps well over 90 deg. Using at peak only 17 AMPS!

When Instructions said use 14 ga wire for a 220 volt system we were quite skeptical to say the least. (supply from wall unit to ground unit) Power to Ground unit only needs 10 Ga wire.

This is the 2 Ton unit while I was vacuuming down the wall unit and hoses. Ground unit comes Pre-charged with enough for up to 50' of hose. Its so quiet if you are not standing a couple feet away one cannot hear it running.

6A4FD9E8-01C1-47DE-B091-37C231FC0930.jpg

This is the overhead 1.5 Ton Wall unit. It only needed a 3" hole in wall to mount. 2 of these in main shop.

F0AC2179-E97C-4CD9-9069-EDEC2A898FEF.jpg

This also allowed a lot more floor space where the old HUGE ground unit was located.

This is the 3 ton Unit used to cool main shop. In 90 Plus outdoor temps running one 1.5 Ton unit on low is plenty to keep shop cool. (COLD)

4EA8EA8F-5F75-46F3-BD7A-19B533332A09.jpg

This is the 2 Ton Wall unit used in shop addition (1000 sq ft) It is so hard to believe how much COLD air this thing moves. 39 Deg outlet temp on a 90+ deg day.

Not to mention when switched to HEAT the heat blows a unreal 125 deg outlet temp!

Thanks for the update! Check this daily.

Thanks for following along!

A friend/fellow GJ member stopped by yesterday and took Eco 1 for a drive.

Early on in his approx 7 mile drive he said:

25% Throttle is a "Felony"! LOL

Right now its on v5 of the remote tuning. I feel its getting close to final tune.

Once that is done I can move to next step in process. But, simply so much to do working alone 90% of time. Everything feels like its in slow motion as far as getting things done but the days are flying by.

Still trying to get shop organized~cleaned up a bit. Just too cramped for my taste. Really need another storage source.
