How are Crescent sockets/ratchets?

How's the quality on the current crop of Crescent socket sets? I'm looking for a small basic 3/8 drive SAE set in a compact easy to transport and store case of descent quality. Something for field repairs and general use around the property. Don't expect to use this a lot maybe 2-3 times a month. I've got a good assortment of USA Craftsman and SK so this will by no means be my go to set of tools. The Crescent 27 piece CSWS8 set seems to fit what I'm looking for.

I bought the 170 piece set to keep in the truck and was impressed with the quality (the ratchets especially). The case makes it really convenient for a roadside kit and the price was right.

I bought 2 roto head Crescent ratchets off ebay. Admittedly, I have not used them alot, but they both seem very good, much better than the hf versions that I have also. they are the same as the Gearwrench models, just rebranded. Crescent and Gearwrench are both owned by apex tools, so you may very well be getting rebranded Gearwrench.

I have a thread posted in the hot deals forum for a long time running Gearwrench promo. You can get their complete 3/8" socket set that comes with all 6 point sockets, in metric and sae, both shallow and deep with no sizes skipped, and two 84 tooth ratchets for $104. With the promo, you get their entire 1/4" drive set as well that includes the 120xp ratchet.

Each set sells for over $100 by themselves, so it's a great deal on a good set of tools. I have pics posted of the sets on page 2 of the thread. Alot of people have bought them and have been very happy with the purchase. Each kit comes in its own case, and there is no "junk" included to up the tool count on either set.

I've also got the 170 piece set. I broke the 1/2" ratchet within 1 year(Should have been using a breaker bar honestly). Everything else has been fine though. Had the set for 3 years now. Use it every day at work.

I've got a small set in my little beater Nissan P/U. 3/8 ratchet, 3" extension and all the basic sockets in mm and sae. Bought it at TSC for $20-$25 bucks and have been pleased with the durability and function of it.

I have a set of Creasant ratcheting box end wrenches and they seem pretty good. I also have a set of Gearwrench ratcheting box end wrenches and they seem identical except for the markings. I have not used them a lot but I like them. I bought both of these sets about 15 yrs ago.

Another example of a company buying a well established brand name and then whoring it out to the Chinese. Anything made after Cooper Tools got absorbed is junk.

I have a small sae/metric set that I keep in the shed for chainsaw, mower , and household use. I've installed and pulled the dock with it for three or more years with it, so it's spent some time underwater a couple of times each year, and it still functions like new.

Not pro quality, but great for the intended homeowner or occasional use market.

I work in maintenance at a hospital and have this set by Crescent I keep out in my crib. I'm responsible for all the outside repairs and I can bring it around with me without having to grab a bunch of random stuff from my actual box I keep inside. I've used most of the sockets with my 1/4" impact driver and they've held up fine. The ratchets are clanky, but the set as a whole is pretty good. You can tell they aren't as good as the old USA stuff, but they do work. Screwdrivers are decent and one plus is they are magnetic tips. The hospital paid for this set, but I wouldn't spend my own money on it. I'd go with Gearwrench or SK if on a budget. http://www.toolbarn.com/crescent-ct...Q0oGMI_pcrid_90615788774_pkw_PLA_pmt_b_pdv_m_
