OIF: starting from scratch with the window sills really turned out nice. love the thick OAK and your so called CHEAP thermopane windows look great.

i agree how does one think up and make a tool like that to do a job that the company that made the engine couldn't? WELL DONE!!

looks like it's running great and for a while there i was thinking you were working on an engine for BOB HEINE.

I guess i'm going to have to read all of your thread cause there is a caboose on your property. did you mention how that got there, how you ended up with it or what the future or current use is?

have another great SATURDAY today and i'll do the same.

cheers

OIF, is your middle name MacGyver? LOL
Seriously I think that is perfect.

Since I have lived a very sheltered life, I have never seen the television show MacGyver. But I'll take your comment as a compliment:thumbup: If that is what you're referring to, maybe I can find an episode on the internet. I didn't feel too good about my stop gap tool, if I'd had more energy I would have forged the offset instead of welding two pieces together. But it is probably a one time use. But it goes in my "special tools" drawer (those that have no real use). Thanks for the visit!

Andy MacGyver, now that fits the bill..

:lol_hitti Thanks!

yeah, not OMG its AMG

Thanks for the kind words. Honestly it does not take much imagination to cut up a good wrench to make it work. I'm sure most people have a few in their tool boxes (or thrown away when they're done with it). But thank you!

Bob thinks I'm talking about him sometimes when I'm talking about Bob instead. How could he make such a mistake? I know who I'm talking about.

For others that don't know, when the news report came on and said they were going to quit using cabooses I looked at my wife and said "If we were going to get one, now's the time" "were we going to get one" "I hadn't thought about it until just now". Looked around and found it for $3,500 plus $1,000 for a house mover to deliver. We were preparing for a church hay ride a few years later and I told her I was giving the caboose to her. "whatever". At church that night some people gave me their regrets over not making it to the hay ride. I encouraged them to come, told them they would like seeing my wife's big caboose. You don't realize how big it is until you get up close to it, it is literally broad as a barn. The ingrate gave it back. We had plans for a mother in law house but they have both passed so it's just yard art.

Thanks for stopping in!

Today I got the oak window trim milled and varnished.

IMG_0119_zpswsnamu0c.jpg

Also trimmed out the door and window under the Skelly sign.

IMG_0121_zpsfv2howe7.jpg

I think it came out OK. The trim interference was not bad to deal with.

IMG_0122_zpso4yrp8lw.jpg

IMG_0123_zpsdxpdc4tn.jpg

Also had an injector seeping some, so I pulled the injection lines off to tighten the injectors. While they were off I wire brushed and painted the spots where the vibration clamps go. They were apparently originally painted with the clamps on as there was bare metal underneath and it was rusting. I chose Ford blue so 1/2 Cup would send me a Ford logo.

IMG_0124_zps3jhybhot.jpg

And UPS brought me a surprise! A Wilton vise.

IMG_0126_zpsw5bq0dpz.jpg

This thing is huge, you can see by comparison, it is larger than the blue compressor tank in the background!!

Had some good time in the shop today!

Got the boxing in the windows.

IMG_0127_zps49xw0uer.jpg

Unloaded lumber picked up yesterday after doctor's appointment.

IMG_0129_zpsutfw0djj.jpg

Lumber is for filter wall in paint booth, and door frame for paint booth entrance.

And got face trim for the windows finish milled, finished, and nailed up.

IMG_0131_zpsc32xydm7.jpg

Windows need a little cleaning nail putty and trim caulk and they are DONE:thumbup:

Put a little decoration on the face trim. I like stopped router cuts, it shows the trim was custom molded, not just stock trim cut to length.

IMG_0132_zps3gk0gp5c.jpg

Also trimmed entry door

IMG_0133_zpsh9ja6cim.jpg

And got started on trim for the door to the old shop. Just about ready for base cove, then wiring, lights, and air lines. To do list between now and starting on shop cleaning is growing shorter!

Neat work on the sign and related trim. You made it all work together without losing any identity of the sign.

I dig it!

Dunno... reckon MacGuyver was his apprentice(old dad joke). You know MacGuyver's(TV show role) given name is Angus right? The cows would have a field-day about that! :lol_hitti

Goodness gracious Andy. Your garage trim also looks better than the trim in my house. Looks like Bob got it together and quit smoking too! Then there is that caboose again.

Watch out tho... you tell people that UPS just goes round dropping of Wilton's, Oklahoma may just become the next GJ capital. Next you'd end up running for GJ State President. :willy_nil

OIF: great work on the window trimming. really like how you worked the sign's trim into the window and door frame's trim. also like the unfinished router look you did and i agree looks better than stock trim you just buy and cut.

just curious if you are going to trim out the door's jamb next to the wall like you did the other one that looked pretty nice with a piece of trim on the wall next to the door.

interesting story how you ended up owning a CABOOSE. is one enough or would you buy another if the opportunity came up? or did i miss the for sale sign on it?

not sure how you keep that nice car in your Avatar so shiny while doing sheet rock, trim, engine work and the rest of your work, but i like it.

have a great SATURDAY

Andy I'd like to make a comment but for some reason none of the pictures you posted are showing up on my laptop. I've even tried a restart and it's still not working.

Thanks for the OK tag. I've posted a picture over in my shop thread.

Dan, I don't think it's just you. There are no pictures on the thread based on my quick look. Apparently FUBucket is having problems. Nothing but a "hang in there" kitten on their site.

DAN & BOB & OIF: when i was posting just prior to Dan i saw the pictures just fine and now i don't see them either.

Photobucket used to be awesome when it was free and i would have paid them to use them because they were high quality and easy to use. then they upgraded their site so i couldn't use the same methods i knew and then wanted some cash so i just download pictures like i would an email with the paperclip and attach them to my posts.

OIF: keep up the great work and although i love the bigger pictures you might want to start downloading pictures straight to GJ off your laptop. i know Imgur has issues with GJ having a classified section so maybe some of the other online photo sites will to and there goes all our great pictures and the time to post them.

have a great SATURDAY (yes i know it's only Friday for most of us but not for OIF cause everyday is a SATURDAY)

Angus, huh? I like to have happy cows, they have a field day every day. Sounds like a hoity toity restaurant that would serve "real Angus MacGuyver".

Thank you! I enjoyed making the trim. I have similar trim in the additions to my house that I have made. But it is all wider.

Yes, trim on the way, but the hinges are so close to the wall (poor planning) that the trim will be more like veneer.

interesting story how you ended up owning a CABOOSE. is one enough or would you buy another if the opportunity came up? or did i miss the for sale sign on it?

Why must more or fewer be the only options? I know they are, but why?

I'm so sorry you failed. In your effort to not make a comment, you did in fact, make a comment!:eyecrazy: I was frustrated by no pictures. So why do they call it photo*ucket?

They indicated they had a little problem while improving their site. It seems to be a Millennial thing. Upgrades go live with insufficient testing. It's no big deal, everyone just waits until they fix it.

Like you fix a cat. Oh well, thanks for looking in on the poor folks.

Oh oh, we got caught!:willy_nil I'll be right over and get on the trim. It won't take any longer than it takes me to walk over to your place. Get your trees cut and and the boards milled out. Air dry them for about six years and we can start. I'll be glad to help!

I've been to Sydney and Newcastle, but the last time I went down under was because the drain pipe was leaking and getting my wife's Comet wet.

I would dearly love to make another trip to my favorite penal colony, and their neighbors to the east!

Andy, as per what we have come to expect you have done a great job on the trim..:thumbup:

 Thank you for your visit and the kind words! I fear you have an unrealistic expectation based on electronically photoshopped images intended to impress naive and gullible. If I can find them, I'll send you some of my negatives. I really don't understand these electronic cameras, how they can make things look so much better than they really are: So glad they weren't around when I was dating...

Always nice to have you stop by:thumbup:

Andy, I hope it takes your dime and doesn't deliver a Coke! That's way beyond a THOU ****.

It runs and gets cold. A guy came by and said he was the seller, said it had Coke in it, and it ran. So I plugged it in when we got it home and it started and runs quietly. He lost the key so it's full of money. I was able to find a key on eBay for $11.48 free shipping.

It has rust and dings, but I think I'm going to clear coat it and have a rat box.

I had a V39 years and years ago which had a dime changer on it. It chirped and rattled as it ran. Burned up in my shop fire of 88 or 89.

This one did take three nickels so far, but we'll fix that when the key arrives. Also got a six foot glass display case for $12.

But you're right.

I **** COLD COKE ANYTIME I WANT:rocker::rocker::rocker:

Totally agree..

The collective wisdom of GJ is nothing short of amazing.:shocking:

So maybe GJ can resolve my conundrum. We stopped daylight shaving time last night. Yet this morning, I was able to shave with daylight outside for the first time in weeks.:willy_nil Shouldn't we be starting daylight shaving time?:dunno:

It always amuses me the people that "suffer" with the one hour time change.:eyecrazy: They have never taken a transcontinental flight and had to get up to speed with a six hour or more time change.

One question. Does the coke machine give you a bottle of coke from 1958?:dunno:

untitled2.png

Since I have several old Coke bottles, I've been dreaming about whether I could in fact bottle my own. Maybe pour canned soda into a sterilized bottle, inject CO2, then manually cap it.

While sifting through the coals of my burnt out imagination I'm wondering "do grate minds think alike?"

Thanks for the visit!

Yes you can do that, look at home brew guys for bottling info, probably wouldn't even need to add additional CO2.

OIF: i just moved a box with a couple old shorty COKE bottles in it so let me know what size your machine needs if you might need a few and i'll see if i have anymore. I don't think i'll be buying a COKE machine anytime soon, but who knows i might cause i still like the stuff even if i don't drink it much or at all anymore.

i love reading your thread cause your sense of humor is interesting to say the least. i'm sorry i ruined your pictures for a while, but as you can see i didn't do it permanently and was just getting GJ's royalties for a few minutes. BTW still waiting for that check too even though it was said to be in the mail. speaking of which i need to ship out a few items soon or some of the guys will think i'm typing when i should be shipping. of course i like the hunt for stuff more, but that's no excuse.

cheers big guy and keep up the great stuff

Thanks for the great tip! Do you think Coke bottles and beer bottles use the same cap? That would be really convenient.

It was designed for 6-1/2 oz bottles. I think mine is more flexible than some of them: I saw a you tube video of a guy dispensing cans from one like mine, with minor modifications to the box. I might have to go with cans. It doesn't look like bottles are still produced but I'm still looking.

Here's a picture of the glass case my buddy bought me for $12.

IMG_0140_zpsumrsnoju.jpg

I figured I could get some brackets and put a shelf in it, until I looked at it today. It has brackets and two glass shelves in the bottom, carefully packed.

The 4" Wilton arrived yesterday. There was a flat surface on top of the welding machine which had not been filled recently. It makes a good size indicator.

IMG_0141_zpsu6qwhkj4.jpg

Did get the door from the old shop trimmed out. That's all the trim and ready for cove base tomorrow. (except for the one piece next to the hinges on the entry door, that may wait)

IMG_0143_zpss25uiosy.jpg

We had a big earthquake here this evening. Larger than anything I felt in California or Indonesia. It started with rolling thunder that got louder, very loud, and then shook pretty good for five seconds then less for 30 seconds. I've heard a few earthquakes here in the last six months but never heard any other earthquakes anywhere in the world. Just like rolling thunder but it is the ground grinding. I've heard buildings groan, but this is a distant loud sound, thunder. Pretty spooky. Anybody else hear earthquakes?

I can see running for the GJ State President, but what do I do if I catch him?:willy_nil:willy_nil Tackle him or what?:rocker:

Don’t know about GJ State presidents but from what I can tell they are all eventually full of fertiliser. Should be great for pasture, broom corn or a row of pumpkin vines. :lol_hitti

Depending if it is screw top or not… just a different crimping die.

Go for cans... you can recycle them yourself.

You should see how much original coke bottle molds/dies go for! There is actually a small market for after-market molds too. Sure you can blow some glass bottles while your are melting brass… just need to add an annealing kiln to the smithy.

Reminds me of "The Plan", not original by me

The Plan

In the beginning was The Plan
And the workers said The Plan was sh*t and stunk
The foremen reported The Plan was manure and smelled strongly
The supervisors reported The Plan was odorous fertilizer
The managers reported The Plan was strong and good for growth
And so The Plan was implemented as policy
The workers were not surprised

Depending if it is screw top or not… just a different crimping die.

So old glass Coke bottles should take home brew beer caps? That's great news. I may bottle my own Coke. Wouldn't want to sell it!

Go for cans... you can recycle them yourself.

Cans are the most practical, and 8 oz are better than 12 oz for kids.

Not surprisingly I have wanted to blow glass. I've never tried because as I understand it you really need to keep your furnace hot for long periods. I don't think it's a good part time hobby.

I can imagine what original molds could go for.

Thanks for the visit, and the great information!

P.S. Do they have beer in NZ?

I worked for coca cola for years. When I first started it was independently owned, when several of us were going on Canadian fishing trips and right before deer season (like a week or so ago) We would work late after punching out pump a premade batch of coke into the small mix tank insert the choice of blend into it and start the bottle line and bottle our own whiskey cokes for the journey had nice coke crowns on the bottles and all. Nobody ever looked at them even at the border. some times the fellows at deer camp were a bit surprised when they popped a cold pop. It tastes like whiskey coke ?? LOL

Nobody ever looked at them even at the border. some times the fellows at deer camp were a bit surprised when they popped a cold pop. It tastes like whiskey coke ?? LOL

Now that's a story Bob.

Wait, you're not Bob Heine, are you? Are you sure that's not his story?:willy_nil:willy_nil

And in your rush, did you forget to clean out the premix tank?

Let's see you broke just about everybody's rules and regulations and got away with it. Unless there's not a statute of limitations on importing contraband into Canada, eh?

Thanks for the laughs, and the incredible story.

Nice old round top Coke machine.:thumbup::thumbup:
I have a large collection of Coke stuff, including about 30 cases of old Coke.
I bought a Coke metal cooler at auction last week, for a decent price, it also had some 10" metal letters inside.
Here in Winfield was the very last privately owned Coca- Cola bottling factory. It closed about 10 years ago. I use to go down there and buy the old 6 1/2oz bottles by the cases. I have a few bottles that have Winfield Kansas on the bottom, nice for my collection.
I had a friend that worked as a delivery driver for 40 years, when he died the family took what they wanted from his personal collection, then sold me the rest. I have some very unusual stuff and a few very low number of stuff that was for employees only. Some was for different awards they won, or records they set from sales etc. I think I have a autographed picture from the President of Coke from back in the 40's or 50's? I have some metal cans of Coke made product that never became reality, just samples of what the can would look like.
I have a can that was a winner in a sweepstake, you pulled the metal tab and a plastic tab would float up the drink hole and let you know you won. I think it was for a grand prize of $100,000.00. Aien't that special:bounce:
Yes I felt the earth move under my feet, and heard a weird noise around the hose. I told the wife it sounded like someone threw something against the house on the North side, then on the East side. I thought it was the wind throwing a limb, she said "NO" its an earthquake. I :bounce: and thought she was more crazy!:dunno: Kinda freaky!
