Hey everyone, been a lurker for a few years and finally decided to start posting.

So a few years ago i moved to a rental that included a garage. ive been using it to store and work on my cars but recently ive been needing to do some bigger jobs on my 240z (engine swap) so i started cleaning up the garage and trying to make it somewhat decent. unfortunately the garage is easily 60-70+ years old and it shows. we through out these old cabinets and discovered this whole pictured and noticed that there was quite a bit of columns as well. Can anybody explain whats going on here? also the I-Beam you see here does not extend all the way to the wall it seems to end right after the post. on the other side of the beam its embedded into the concrete. also i know that concrete floor is completely jacked up :( where trying to figure out a low cost (remember rental) solution for that

Imgur pictures don't post here very well, for some reason. In your second post, the first link directly to imgur works but the second two don't.

I think you need to change you imgur settings to make those pictures accessible/available to the general public.

Yes can see the pics now. Boy that is hodge-podge. I'd guess the I-beam was there originally, and rest is "hack wall building" to close in the space. What's on other side of that wall ?

What are you hoping to do with the space ??

Would be easier/more effective to insulate the building by taking out concrete wall and replace with wood or metal studs and insulate the walls.

Yeesh, looks like it's been modified and "repaired" a couple of times over the years. Perhaps an addition at some point? Definitely been hacked up good - hard to say what lead up to this or why it's the way it is.

As per CNG above - what's your goal here? Rental property - so I'm guessing you don't want to spend a lot of money on it?

I can't comment on what to do with the wall other than clean it up and recover it as best you can with as little effort and expense as possible. The floor needs to have all the loose stuff removed and have a cement based leveler poured over it to make things right again.
Since this is a rental unit, keep the personal costs down as much as possible. You may have some luck checking with those in the floor covering business and see if they can help with the floor leveling compound and procedure, it's worked for me very well.

So that's an exterior wall and it's a rental so yeah trying to keep costs down, to add injury to insult it's a detached 2 floor single car garage and the second floor is packed to the brim because of my uncle/next door neighbor who I share the garage with. Really what I want to do is not die lol. And if possible fit my 58" wide table saw between the polls currently 56" available.
