Finished up the drywall work a little faster than I anticipated and was able to get a primer coat and one coat of grey paint on today.

The two areas I left unpainted will be covered with galvanized metal pro-rib panels. I have decided to place some of my metal shaping equipment in that area.

Here's something I have NEVER said when doing drywall myself. :D

The place looks great and you are really rolling!

Looking awesome! You must be getting lots of attention from the locals, especially the older ones who remember it back in the hay day....

Second coat of paint went on today. Also made an early morning run to Menards and picked up the metal pro-rib panels, wire shelves and the floor mat tiles for the very front. There will be 2 8ft wide shelf sets with 3 shelves on each set. The bottom 2 will be 16 inch deep shelves and the top shelf will be a 12 inch.

Very cool progress Joe, love the sign and maps with holder....it's gonna be like a functioning museum and workshop!
Thanks for sharing and documenting...I know taking the time to document is a bit of a hassle, but the memories of your efforts will return to you as you reminisce this thread and pictures.
Keep em coming!

Did those foam mats come from Menards?
And did you put any together yet?

Yes Menards, no haven't put any down yet. Not sure how well they would hold up in a high traffic area, but for that front area I think they will do alright for what I need and the price was good. Only a little over a dollar a sqft.

I thought maybe the area you are putting the barn metal on, that it had the old brick wall and that you might make a cut away showing it? But I'm sure its going to look great and be functional, a 2fer!

The wall that still has the yellow paint showing does have brick behind it, but I would have zero insulation then if I opened it up and exposed it. It gets pretty darn cold here in the winter and I need all the insulation I can get. That's another reason I'm leaving the drop ceilings.

One thing I've learned with every shop I have had is you can never have to much storage. I installedl the wire shelving in the front this evening.

Galvanized Pro-Rib panels installed on the two walls where the metal working equipment will be placed.

Also scored an old glass case for the front office off of craigslist today. I'm going to pick it up Saturday morning. I think it has the perfect look for the era I'm going for and the price was right.. $75 bucks

Like the glass case, it reminds me of the one my grandpa had in his Apco station and salvage yard in Fordland Mo.
Most of its gone now, they bought up some land when the state made a 4 lane road thru there.
I can remember he let me have anything I wanted out of the candy case. I was about 6 years old and wanted to imitate the grown ups, they were putting Tom's (brand) nuts inside the 6 1/2 oz Coke bottle. I also liked the Cherry Mash, that had the red and white square label. Good memories, though not many, he died when he and I was quite young.

Looking at your Facebook page photos id be sorely tempted to recreate what's in the few early photos of it that you have. Of course thats easier said than done and im good at spending other people's money, lol.

I'm sure the three old, tall style pumps are pricey as hell IF you could find them. Maybe consider fabricating phony pumps out of commonly available hardware components; even wood? Its not like they have to work and not too many people still know what correct ones look like. If mockups you wouldn't have too much invested in them hopefully.

Wow.... A nice save. I know you will do another great job as you did on the first on. I'm just finishing a HC pump myself. Good luck.

The new overhead doors came in this week. They are a commercial grade R13 insulated door, no windows in what they call stucco finish.

Spent 5 hours round trip to pick up the display case today. I couldn't be happier with it. I started filling it up tonight. The station office will be constantly evolving and probably never will be truly done, but I think this is a good start.

I looked in on your thread early on, and then got busy. Finally got around to checking back in and WOW! What have you done? Looks great!!! I really love your style. I only have time to keep up with a few threads but now I have to waste more time reading yours:eyecrazy:

Thanks for real, I'll have to start "in the beginning".

Your project is great and I really enjoy following the progress. Thank you for posting so many pictures. I know posting to this thread adds to the work so I just wanted you to know many of us appreciate the added effort.

The use of the galvanized Pro-Rib panels behind the machinery is great idea. I will add that to the list for my future shop build. Are the edging strips from Pro-Rib or did you just use a metal corner or J bead?

It is steel J channel commonly used on pole buildings

You have a nice collection of gas station memobillia, have you had it long? I like that it all matches from the same company. It will look like that garage has just been hibernating for 50 years, and just woke up. Man I love this place and how you are doing it all up. Exactly like I wish my shop looks like:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The office area is looking great and that vintage showcase is a perfect fit for the theme you are creating. Well done.

:eyecrazy: Awesome counter. When your bored some night do something with the map display holder. The wood just looks outta place...lol
Painted or wrapped in green vinyl with the Perry logo would look pretty sweet!

Like you're ever bored...;)

A sign I had made for inside the gas station office and an old wood map rack I came across on ebay. I'm going to paint it white and put a couple Sinclair HC decals on the front

]

Already in the works, the 3 inch decals came in last week for it.

A few small loose ends were taken care of yesterday. Finished installing some door trim in the office and doorway into the shop. Worked on finishing some demo on the inside where the first overhead door is going to be installed. I have this week off so hopefully the next update will be pics of the first overhead door installed.

I'm big on original advertising. I came across this Champion Spark Plugs ad I thought had a neat look in an antique store on Saturday. Happened to have a frame the right size I wasn't using anymore at the house.

I printed off a pic off the building when it was new and framed it also. I just need to find a spot for it in the office.

Just bought a lot of 22 1950's Hot Rod magazines on ebay for $13.50  now I just need to find some sort of wall rack for some of them.
