I bought 5 of them together on the 680-mile-long St Rt 127 Yard Sale this year, in Tennessee. Brought them home and sold 4 of them at a regional flea market, which left me the last one, at zero cost. For now I think I will keep that last one. It is the 2nd-from-top unit in the photo.

I see about $500 worth of wrenches there. What was the damage for them at the yard sale? Im assuming the seller knew what they where.

Went to a local auction this week and bought this stuff. Hammond 10" Grinder, 3 phase ($40), Ridgid 230V 3 phase 7hp 14 " abrasive saw, stand and all the blades ($25), 2- Mututoyo digital calipers ($110-I really needed them), strapping machine-all the better to ship vises and anvils ($20), Kennedy Tool Box ($10), 25-3m wheels and 3 boxes of scouring pads ($150). Bought the axe head at a tag sale down the street. I guess these are pretty rare.. Collins Seagrave Legitimus 6lb axe head

Excited about the grinder, really bought it just for the Baldor lights but will try to use it. It has a self contained dust collection system.

The chop saw was a no brainer. The heavy metal table is gorgeous and it comes with a ton of wheels. Paid up for the calipers but I need one and the convoluted wheels were really cheap vs what they actually cost.

Cannot complain at all. Lost a lot of items but I'm not rich so there you go.

Great buy. I've always wanted one of those, but can't find them here in SoCal.

One great use for it is warming plastic high pressure fuel lines and hoses that are a tight fit. It'll make them pliable and easier to push on over the fittings. That's a pretty cool "salt pan" as we used to call them. That thing is probably at least 40 years old. (probably older) Most optical shops use a frame warmer nowadays.

joe.striper YOU **** BIG TIME. I guarantee if I had been there you would have had to go many times what you paid for any of those other than the calipers.

His price was somewhere around $65 dollars each...(maybe $75?). It was the last day of the 127 Yard Sale event, and I asked him if there could be a last-day-bargain-price-if-I bought-them-all package deal. We dickered back and forth, and I finally got them all for about $55 each, I think.

One of them had a replacement jaw. It looked right, and of course had no marks in the new jaw edges. However, it was clearly newer than the wrench, and was an obvious replacement.

A couple others had light rust marks, and one of them had a tiny engraving somewhere, I think. Of course, I kept the one which I thought was the best condition of all. I've wanted one for years. Now I'm not sure what to "do" with it. :headscrat LOL

Picked up the following from a few garage sales over the past few weeks, except for the waterwitch outbaord motor, that I found today- I bought that for my father in Florida, he restored one before and it came out great.

The big wrenches are Williams and that blue handled screwdriver is early craftsman.

Nice!

That Water Witch is cool! I'm assuming 2 stroke an one tank for gas and the other for oil?

I'm not sure, but most likely. Here is one restored- they bang out the dents, give the aluminum a high polish and they come out looking pretty nice. The one I picked up has the smaller motor, only one cylinder.

Waltrip: Great buy on that Wilton

Blue Frog: Always like what you pick up and you did good.

That German caliper for measuring set of saw got me to looking. Found someone describing how they use it and that can be found at following link.

Two stops today, both repair shops clearing out.
The first stop was an old shadetree mechanic who's family was helping to clear out his shop. The old man was stone deaf, so there was a lot of yelling and hand signals involved in the pricing.

The other tool guys got in before me, but most left disappointed.
Most of the tools that were left were cheap economy brands. The only vise in the shop was a newer (90's???) Record wood vise on a workbench that was NFS. There were a few hidden gems though, if you were willing to dig (yes, please :bounce:). Most prices were dirt cheap as quoted, so much so that almost all of us paid more than the asking price. For instance, a guy I know that has a used tool store was quoted $75 and he gave them $100. My small pile was quoted at $2, so I paid $10 and still felt like I got a great deal.

Marvel Mystery Oil (nearly a full quart)
Box of 9 red Dixon lumber crayons (several lifetimes supply)
sm. Hammer handle
OEM Industrial valve lapper
Leviton green 15a receptacle
Cornwell 1/4dr deep sockets
- T0206L 3/16"
- T0109L 9/32"
- T0110L 5/16"
- T0111L 11/32"
- T0112L 3/8"
New Britton NB1210 3/8dr 5/16" socket
SK (diamond) 40961 1/4dr 2" extension
S-K 40412 3/8dr deep 3/8" socket
S-K Wayne 40414 3/8dr deep 7/16" socket
S-K 41128 1/2dr 7/8" socket

The second stop was going to be iffy. I was expecting the prices to be high (they were in the high but reasonable range). But first I had to make arrangements to be out of the house for longer than usual since it was an hour drive away.

This sale was at a repair shop that was closing and needed to be out of the space by the end of the month. One of the lifts was already sold, I was afraid to ask the price on the other two-post lift (don't need, can't afford, have no place to put it). The toolbox was off limits, but every now and then he'd pull something out for a customer. If it wasn't on one of the two tables, it was hard to tell what was for sale and what he was keeping.

Most of the tools on the table that were left were Craftsman. I got there 2-1/2 hours after they opened, so I have no idea what I might have missed. Still, I ended up spending $50 for a small haul.

APC 300va NIB battery backup (for the dead computer I still haven't replaced yet)
Drill Doctor 500 (lucky me, it still has the VHS instructions)
SnapOn SDD2 24" flat screwdriver
SnapOn SDD146 6" thin screwdriver

Glad you made it down to that second sale, Jake!

It wasn't easy. My sister and I had a few words and a glaring contest before she finally agreed to take care of our mother while I was out.

It might have helped that I threatened to stop putting her kid on the school bus every morning while she's at work.

"With great power, comes great responsibility" :lol_hitti

Since I don't argue very often, my foot can be very heavy when I finally decide to put it down.

EDIT - She just came downstairs with a sheepish look on her face and begged me to babysit tonight so she and the Lump-in-Law can go to the movies. I'm stuck at home anyway, I threw her a bone. I usually do on the weekend anyway. :dunno:

OK, a VERY Slow day; 3 stops planned, one didn't bother to open; only the last one had anything worth getting (that wasn't overpriced...)

I had to start late (no one open sooner than 9...) and I STILL got home earlier than I usually do!

Six bucks for: an SGL Waber switched power strip, large no-name needle nose Pliers, Craftsman 24" two fisted prybar, and a 12V "work light" with the cigarette lighter plug. I'm thinking this needs an LED bulb, maybe a magnet epoxied on the reflector back, and then it becomes useful!

Blue Frog - Nice score on the NOS files.

I had another decent haul from that abandoned garage estate sale today...

20161119_122612_zpsolctjp9e.jpg

The big thing with the old-fashioned folding extension is a USM Pop riveter PRG-440.
The deep offset DBE’s are a near-complete set of King **** (UK, metric).
Blue-Point flare nut wrenches
Cornwell (x 2), Craftsman Cirlce-H, and Williams NM-51 1/4-inch sq dr ratchets.
A Walden drag link bit and dwarfie offset DBE.
Another funky torque stop wrench – this one made by Jo Mfg in L.A., set to 25 inch lbs – connected to a Plomb 4861 1/4-inch sq drive extension (6”) (These two companies had a business relationship – I have seen Jo Mfg and Plomb 9/32-inch sq dr pcs packed in the same boxes.)
Too many things to list.

I ran out of daylight at the end of the day cleaning these up, but I took some of the more interesting smalls down to the basement shop.

Check out this oiler… the needle stopper and the tip are threaded. Not sure what it is yet, other than something a machinist or gunsmith might use.

20161119_163642_zpsizpfcu1n.jpg

This amber see-through case, marked LUBRICANT CASE 7790995, goes with the M14 cleaning kit. The small chamber is for rifle grease. The large chamber was for oil or “LSA” (Lubricant, Small Arms). 1960’s.

Some really great hauls guys! I really like seeing so much old iron being saved and appreciated ! I went to a consignment auction today . Now for those of you that never been to one of these be warned that serious collectors and pickers are the only buyers so bring your check book. My small haul cost me $247 bucks today . Many of the regulars I compete with were there and buying strong. It was good to see them and watching them bid each other ... and me up! You know when someone really wants something the bid starts jumping by $50 leaps! It was fun to watch but you can easily get carried away . The auctioneer knows every one and does a really great job at pitting one against the other. Nothing was cheap today but I think I came away with a few nice pieces. The amount of old stuff at this sale was so impressive. There's always some one there that knows what every thing is. The combined knowledge at this auction was staggering . I learn a lot every time I go to one of these.

Late afternoon CL find (I actually found it last night, slept on it, then went for it)

This is a 1958 Coleman 228F lantern, No big deal there, they are repetitively common BUT... This one had not single nick, scratch chip in the top vent, AND never had fuel or been fired! See the envelope inside? Those are the original supplied mantles! The only thing missing was the box and instructions!

I paid his asking price, which IMO was still a great deal at $60

Found a few goodies yesterday.

First stop had this Wilton 9350 Bullet vise with April 1984 birthday (4 84). Although a little cruddy and rusty it has not been beaten on at all and underneath those Wilton copper jaw caps are like new jaw inserts. Guy knew what he had and got him down from $150 to $125 but that was it.

A few other items from other sales for $19 total include a couple of drop cloths, Paso paint softener can, Craftsman calipers, screw starter and Crown label allen wrenches and some vintage Coca Cola TV trays.

Was raining up here in North Bay, so just stayed home and had a few guinness's while finishing packing he shop. Had some business in the city yesterday, so swung by the Oakland swap when I was done, found a Proto 370 drill, but it is packed already. In pretty good shape though.

Might head into Sac tomorrow, if it isn't raining too bad.
