LUG: when you say abandoned garage estate sale does that mean you just left some cash in a box. nice stuff as per usual and i love the little oilers.

TOP: who doesn't like a anvil you can hold in your hand. i was wondering with the items are that look like metal blindfolds? since you like wood so much if you might want to stop chopping on the tree in your avatar and visit the new Woodworking 101 thread with your axes and other cool wood tools and skills i bet the guys already posting there would love to see some of your posts and STUFF.

Jake: it sounds like your nephew needs you and your positive influence. :)

ALL: pretty dead here today and i've got a few of the CL posters playing best offer and listing for small price and then tripling it. nothing new, but it gets old and i wish CL could permanently ban several of the guys that ruin it for all of us cause it is still better than driving around to garage sales looking for signs and showing up to baby clothes and stuff even the thrift shops wouldn't take for free.

cheers

Drives Those metal blindfolds are used in dairy farms to wean calves off of milking . They hook in the nose like bull nose pliers and the blind fold part covers there mouth . there's spikes on the back side that push into their lip if they try. If they try to eat off the ground it hangs out of the way when there head is down. They're called Kant Suk weaners. I'll check out your tread some time!

We just kept the calves separate from the rest of the herd and bottle fed. When it was time to wean them, we'd put a little milk in with the grain bucket and rub some on their nose to get them to lick it. Each time, you'd lead them closer to the bucket. Eventually they'd figure it out and feed on their own. Later, you add in a little hay and bob's your uncle.

Never saw those Victorian bovine ball gags before in my life. You learn something new every day. :lol_hitti

I haven't had the chance to look it over yet to see if all the parts are there. There is one part that looks like a holder that is marked 3/32-1/2. It has a bunch of fingers that extend when you screw it, like the fingers on a DP chuck. I'm hoping that it's the only part I'll have to use.

I may have to resort to a very unmanly action. I hesitate to even mention it, but .......

............. I may have to read the manual. [SHUDDER] :scared:

EDIT -
I just looked it up. The Drill Doctor part # that I have is SA01500PA .
http://www.toolschest.com/mdco6127.html
The part may be discontinued, you may have to keep searching until you find someone with NOS in inventory.

Well the Garage sales were a bust yesterday. Didn't find even one wrench or socket in 12 sales. So off to the flea market I went. Found a few old wrenches for $3. I also scored my second Golden Rod Oil Can in two weeks. Now have a matching pair. $5

New Britain Brake tool
11/16 Sears
3/4 Proto
11/16 -9/32 Barcalo

Then I ended up at an indoor flea market place and scored this neat Steel Master cabinet for $10 !

Late afternoon CL find (I actually found it last night, slept on it, then went for it)

This is a 1958 Coleman 228F lantern, No big deal there, they are repetitively common BUT... This one had not single nick, scratch chip in the top vent, AND never had fuel or been fired! See the envelope inside? Those are the original supplied mantles! The only thing missing was the box and instructions!

I paid his asking price, which IMO was still a great deal at $60

I have one like that but it was very used and the inside of the tank was very rusty. Bummer so I electrified it. That is a nice find Outlaw. And I don't think you paid too much for one Unused!:rocker:

Picked this Powermatic up yesterday. Seller was thrilled it was going to a young couple instead of a contractor and offered it to me for $200.

I wonder if "Mimi" is missing her flashlights.

:spit:
Good eye, I missed that and had to go back and look.

No, the sale that I went to this morning had zero tools despite what the ad said.
At least the TOO that I stopped at later had tools. A cheap plastic MasterCraft jigsaw and a cheap no name 1/4" drill. It's sad when an unadvertised TOO has more tools (by 2) than a sale that states it has "lots of tools" and has none. Even if it was a table full of HF, I wouldn't have been as angry at wasting the gas. (alright, maybe a little bit )

Yeah it's funny Ragtop. The person has been advertising the same sale with the same exact picture for months too.

Guys, have to run so I cant post all yesterday's finds. I went to one sale and was lucky to uncover a cardboard box no one else had been through, full of what was mostly NOS hardware store merch.

Check out the Cracker Jack wrench still new on the card. I have some wrenches, never saw the packaging before.

Also a local piece. Jewett Stove wrench from Buffalo.

Whale Pli-rench Nos in the box too.

Finally found a somewhat reasonably priced double head Crescent wrench ($24) and also found a Barcalo adjustable wrench for $2.50.

And a sign of the cross when I entered? Something like that.

Here’s the total weekend haul (minus the empty < S-K > 1/2-drive case) all cleaned up.

I’ve been looking for one for a WWII high echelon tool-set for long time!

Yesterday I posted a photo of the Williams NM-51 Superratchet, and here it is among the rest of the 1/4-inch sq drive stuff…

The other ratchets are CRAFTSMAN (H) open head and two Cornwell TR-301's. That T-handle is very interesting. It's the 25 inch lbs torque stop wrench I reported earlier. It was attached to the Plomb 4861 1/4-inch drive 6” extension next to it when I found it. The drive stud has a little play in it. I’m thinking it’s a click-stop that un-seats itself when the torque setting is reached.

I thought this might’ve been a little molten pot, but it had an opening with teeth in the bottom. I took it home anyway and it turns out to be an antique ice cream scraper!

PWR, How old do you think that knife is? That looks to be a nice skinner.

From my knowledge of Ruana's knives Id say this one is early 50's.
He started making the ones with the small knife stamped into them in 1944. This one has dovetail elk antler handles so it is a little newer than 1944.

For a 100% handmade knife of that era the fit and finish is awesome. Ruanas feel great in the hand very solid well built knives. They are excellent quality, but I see the price has gone up very high on them for all years! Especially 1950's and older builds.

I am happy for you and jealous at the same time. I don't have any Powermatic tools but would certainly like to. While that is not a cabinet saw, it is still a very good saw.

This past Wednesday's finds....

20161118_192148.jpg

Saturday's haul....

20161119_190529.jpg 20161119_190513.jpg

The item in the upper right hand is called a Red Tip Bat-Handle Pedestal Lock Security Tool - Security Key Plunger (boy, thats a mouth full :wtf:)

https://customtoolsupply.com/catalo...Key-Plunger-Style-LK05029817-LK03029817-TTB-6

Can any of you lock guys (Jeff Moss?) tell me how it's used?

.

Some utility companies use a metal ring around their meters, with a lock that looks like a barrel. The tool you found is used to remove the lock. Be careful!

Not a garage sale find, but a gift from Dad. He finally bought himself a bigger blower and gifted me his old Yamaha YS624. I've been waiting for this day. This is an early 90's model that we bought used in '94. Used it a lot as a kid and can't wait to keep on using it. This thing will stack up with any newer blower on the market except the newer Yamaha's or Honda's.

Lugnutz, pretty cool finds. I really like the ratchet collection.
Thanks, T_M. They were all locked up with rust mixed in with a bunch of other rusty **** in a 1/2-inch case that nobody was bothering with. The case turned out to be an < S-K > with a very nice intact badge under the lid that is already part of a trade with another GJ guy looking for one. I am keeping the Williams and the older Cornwell. The open head Crafty (H) and the other Cornwell are available.

It is. If it was made by a company in southern California it was used on ww2 era bombers.

I had a hunch it was wartime and USAAF fab related, d. It was made by JO Mfg Co, in L.A. (technically, Southgate), and I have other JO Mfg Co pieces (9/32inch drive wingnut sockets, to be precise), all wartime NOS, that came with other wartime NOS Plomb and Williams pieces in wartime NOS USAAF boxes. And there was a lot of other aircraft tools (PWA, WRIGHT) in the lot.

Do you have a source for the bomber reference?
