Another point of reference for you, you can buy a new 450S, without the swivel jaw, shipped to your door for $650

http://www.mile-x.com/wilton-450s-4-5-swivel-base-machinist-vise/
(There is even a coupon today that gives additional discount)

When you got to have something, no price is too much I suppose, but like a couple of others have said, maybe half that price would be as high as I would go.

You can't really compare a fixed jaw, swivel base vise to a swivel jaw, swivel base vise when you start talking price. The fact that the swivel jaw Wiltons weren't made in large numbers makes them very hard to find.

VA: I'm sure it is partly true cause you probably have file on most of the rare vises that you either want or actually own. glad it brought a smile to you just the same. so with your Handle and Avatar I'm guessing small birds might be part of the Thanksgiving dinner?

Outlaw: i have made a few posts and maybe more on just this thread than some of the members that have been members since GJ started. that said i've NEVER hit either one of those lower buttons. if it's easier for you that's ok since you obviously know how to post yourself and i always like your pictures.

Joe, those are nice clean vises. Nice haul. Gotta share a few more vises from my good friend in Texas. Good size foot vise called a Rawling built in San Francisco and not a small vise. The Schillgel sure looks German.

Joe: it sounds like maybe you quit calling Meatsis names? oh no you called him a RUBE whatever the F that means in NEW JERSEY SLANG.

i have one question do you like Heiniken better in the can or bottle? i bought some yesterday at maybe the biggest liquor store you've ever seen and i would have bought it in the can if they carried it and ended up bringing home bottles for my son and his friend and i to drink tomorrow.

nice haul and was it a trade for one of those huge anvils or did Meatsis just need some cash for a down payment on that car in his Avatar?

cheers

Did a quick pin removal and repair on a Prentiss # 19. I tried heating the casting a couple of times but said screw it and drilled it out. You guys with time can let it soak for a while but I can't wait that long. After cleaning, stoning and filing the swivel jaw clean and getting it working freely again I added new jaws, clamped it together and re cut the 3 degree hole and fit a new pin. Having access to a machine shop makes these jobs a little easier. The 3 degree hole was damaged some and took about .050 thousands to clean up.

Great work on the #19 and thank you for sharing the others!
Do you have anymore photos of that foot vise? Show us the Prentiss jaws?
Thank you, Sir!

Hey Zoomie, I'll post more pic's especially when I wrap up the Prentiss Swivel jaw. Added a couple Dawn pic's just for you. The jaws I see every day but will post pic's after I finish fitting them. This is the first time I tore into a Prentiss. The jaws had to be fitted, the boss area is not the same on either side. Never knew this. I hope all the persons that purchased Prentiss jaws from me can adjust the jaws so there is no gaps, a good way to crack jaws. Vise restoring is not as easy as bolting on a set of jaws, gotta really look close.

I am restoring a Prentiss 354-1/2 also and it needed some repairs too. It was so wore out where the spindle shoulder tucks in the dynamic support that I had to machine out a pocket and make a Aluminum Bronze washer to make up the difference. Cleaned up the spindle face too. Took over 5/16 of machining to clean it up the damage. I made a couple sets of pipe jaws for it too. They are pretty thick pipe jaws, no pic's of them, after heat treating I'll take some. Picked up a new base since a one ear was broke.

Already cooking my Thanksgiving dinner tonight, Having a large group over tomorrow and I am the cook. Have a great Holiday guys.

Here is an interesting little vise I ran across. It's got 1 3/16 jaws and opens 1" - 1 1/4" if you push it. It reminds me of some of the Polish vises I've seen like Bison. Anyone know anything about its origin or age? It's very well made' a real cut Above my other mini vises, the Colton patterns.
Thanks!

Looks like a Boley style vise. There are a lot of no name copies out there.

Thanks getrida1 !
It 's shown clearly at upper left, VS 510. Mine isn't marked, but if not real, it's a really good knockoff

Here's a reason to be Thankful! 5 vise's and 2 anvils picked today with my grandson !
The big anvil is probably steel but 71 pounds of it. The smaller bench anvil is nice and I think is wrought iron and hardly a scratch on it!
The vise's all are different from the 63-1/2 Parker with hardi cutoff !, 645 Wilton, An early ,barely used, Craftsman 508-51800 3-1/2". This gem still has a partial label on the D jaw!. American Scale No. 500 with the pipe jaws and finally Columbian 804 welded steel vise . This was a great day with my No. 1 grandson. 8 years old and he's really liking the old iron. Here's some pics!

Anyone have any history on a G ******* kit vise Pat 142546 tool and die K.C. MO. I thought the ball socket stand was cool and it's really well built all solid cast no plastic on this one.

KM, that is brilliant.---Have a large group over for bird, send half of them home with a newly purchased, freshly restored, KMScott autographed bench vise, and voila, Christmas is paid for.

Haha the funny thing is that I'm currently visiting my cousins in St Louis and we followed the Kansas city exits the whole way.

BFBOB: nice little vise even if i did have to turn my laptop upside down to see it.

here's a little thread i started over a year ago that might help you with your cell phone and posting pictures or if you still need help just ask or PM one of the younger guys. i'm not a fan of posting on my phone so unless it's a quick post to help a member i'll wait until i can get on my laptop. funny because i take all my pictures with my cell phone, email them to myself and then save them to my laptop. i'm sure there is an easier way, but i'm used to it.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296253&highlight=posting+pictures+phone

FMC: thanks for the URBAN Dictionary meaning of Rube, but i bet the New Jersey and New York meaning is different in their dictionary. i don't recall ever hearing anybody in New Jersey or New York saying REDNECK, but if they say RUBE instead i guess that's why. can't you just feel the love between Joe and Meatsis cause if he's posting all these just think what he puts on texts, emails and says on the phone.

Joe: I realized those probably aren't your Heinikens cause that looks like Meatsis's bench and since you were driving home maybe an hour or more i bet you didn't do an adequate taste test to give me an opinion.

TOP: you forgot the best picture. the one where your grandson is negotiating the deals with the sellers, but i have an image in my head. i bet he's getting to know a lot about some of them by now. good for you for taking him out PICKING with you.

ALL: Happy Thanksgiving all you vise (vice) addicts

Here is my 350 SJ. The hex nut is correct on the pin. I made the base locks from lug nuts and could go back to the hex nuts for the original look.

Everyone have a great "Turkey Day"

GET: cool looking vise and i actually prefer the nuts to the little swivel pins that usually are harder to tighten down. is that the original pin on the swivel jaw and are all Wilton SJ's pins threaded? do you recall the date stamp on yours? if not that's ok.

ALL: What's funny about the SJ series of Wilton is that several of them say Chicago and they are stamped up to 1970's. sort of like the Baby Bullets that have Chicago in their casts and they are stamped up into the 1980's. must not have been a big demand for them.

in fact i can tell you i've only bought one or two swivel jaw vises out of maybe the 20 or so i own that the owner actually knew the jaw swiveled. i remember the first one I bought maybe 4 years ago and the 75 year old son of the original owner almost got mad that i mentioned the jaw swiveled and he said ABSOLUTELY that it didn't. i let it go and didn't send him a picture of the vise with the rusted pin removed and the jaw swiveling.

anybody actually use their swivel jaw vises and for what purpose?

AUTOPTS: since you are around today we had a little discussion about brass hardware being original parts on some Wilton bullet vises. to my knowledge i wouldn't think brass was ever a factory option so maybe you know. thoughts?

Driv Yes, there was a time when Wilton used what looked to be Brass swivel hold downs with steel handles. I don't know if they were genuine Brass or not, but like a lot of Bullets years ago, Wilton seemed to put on whatever was within reach. Zoom may know more about a specific time span in which they were use. I don't know if it was ever mentioned but the Wilton AW series All Weather combos have Nickel Plated jaws (all 4) with Plated handles.
Happy Thanksgiving all!!

Drives I didn't get any pics of my "apprentice" deal making but I did get a couple of him at the arch in St. Louis where we traveled 301 miles one way to make this pick! I though I better include at least one pic of a vise so I stay on topic. This is the trunk load shot.

Just busting on Meatsis! He had a killer opportunity and since I was close to him yesterday picking up some auction items we did some trading/buying. I am VERY happy with my new vises.

I HATE Heiniken beer! I'm a stout guy.

Meatsis has a couple new additions to his permanent collection this week that I will wait for him to post up here!

Here's one of the new additions Joe is talking about. I'm not a big fan of Wilton's but I do like their C series. Here's a C2 I picked up yesterday. It was less than an hour away and the price was right. This vise barely has a scratch on it. It doesn't even show any witness marks on the bolt holes as if it was never actually mounted.

IMG_5724.jpg

But here's the new addition that I'm really excited about. Meet little Mikey. By the looks of this picture it seems he already has his throttle hand ready:)

No assembled photos but this is my Record no.5 next to my son's Woden #3. I blasted both of them down then sprayed em with industrial primer and top coat.

Found the Palmgren swivel base awhile back for free and have been searching for the right Palmgren 000 2 1/2 inch to match up. Having no luck at local sales i finally grabbed this one with a bit of an eBay premium, but, no drill marks is worth a few extra bucks.
At first appearance, I'm happy with it. I had to scrape out very minor rust just to mate the swivel base.
