Damn man. Garage looks really good. Envious of those tall ceilings and ample light. That is going to be a good place to get working.

How do those lifts work anyway? Are you lifting on the floor pan of the car to lift it up? Or do you have arms that come out to get the pinch welds or something? Looks so simple, but all I can think of is crushed exhaust and brake lines.

Whats your plans for layout? Using the back wall as tool storage and work bench?
Plan on using your loft at all?

There are 4 hard blocks(all the photos make them out to be hard rubber), that you place at your jacking locations before lifting. Most of the photos make them out to be roughly 4x4x8. So plenty of surface area too.

Thanks man!

The lifts come with high durometer rubber blocks like wildfire said.

Haven't fully decided on layout yet, but what you said is pretty much my baseline currently. I have some equipment (blast cabinet, belt sander, welder etc) that I have to place as well.

Loft? Are you referring to the area in the trusses?

Not much got done over the holiday weekend, but I was able to get the second lift in the pit!

Used a method to get it in that I saw on the in floor lift thread by user superskaterxes. Worked much easier this way.

Great structure, surprised you didn't have contractor grade your yard a bit while he was moving dirt around.

Thanks. It's not very apparent but we did actually do some grading. There's only so much we could really do due to the elevation of the patio.

It's been a while, but I have a minor update. The siding and gutters were finished a while ago. I've been using the shop to fabricate my driveway gate (more on that in the future) and it's been a great work space! Unfortunately my garage door assembly still hasn't arrived so I have been moving all my tools back and forth (keep in the house for safekeeping) which is becoming a pain.

The slab finally hit the 30 day full cure last week, so this weekend I was able to put my coating on. I went with Rust Bullet for the perceived easier prep and lower cost. After doing the process I think I would go epoxy next time. The Rust bullet went down easily but the multiple coats with cure time in between really dragged the process out. I started at 11 am and didn't get the final clear on until 2:30 AM. Ambient temps were right around the lower limit for the product (35° F) which definitely didn't help the cure time.

I used plastic sheeting across the door and some electric heaters to bring the garage temp up (prob got it to ~50° F).

Aliens? It must be aliens

I didn't take many pics during the process, but got a few after the second base coat of RB was down with the flakes. I put a clear coat on top of this that I'll get pictures of today.

Overall I'm happy with the finished RB result. Brush strokes were definitely apparent until I put the flake down, so if I wanted a solid color I would probably look elsewhere. We'll see how well it wears.

The RX-7 is really slick and that garage is coming along nicely!

Did you have to opt out of a man door on the side to achieve the slope depth you wanted?

Thanks!

I thought about a man door on the yard side but didn't want to sacrifice any additional yard space (It would have had to be recessed with a stairwell). I also didn't want to loose wall space to a door.

In hind sight however I think adding a door on the fence side would have been nice to have and not any more obtrusive.

Nice development today. The garage door came in and got installed! The high lift didn't raise it as high as I would have expected, but it should be ok.

Also got the lift hydraulics filled and the lifts up and running. It was probably more exciting to me than it should have been

Looks like a million bucks with those lifts set into the floor. When the word gets out, get ready for some new friends!

Looks fantastic, but I imagine the lack of a man door is gonna **** from time to time, especially days you have heat going and someone comes by.

I'm as bright as I look in the picture above.
I like the setup!! Looks like you pay attention to the details.

I've been debating what to do in my current house. I have a 20 x 20 single garage with a 9-1/2 foot ceiling (with I beam at a lower height). I think a midrise sort of lift will be the right answer. Seeing your build is inspiring me. LOL

I was an "FD" guy for a while, but after the 3rd engine went I called it quits. (the single turbo setup was more than my "wrenching skills" could handle)

X...

Thanks. It's been dark when I get home pretty much every night lately, but I'll grab some pics this weekend. The yard doesn't look great with the straw down and temporary fence for my dog. We still need to put the retaining wall in as well.

I started moving my tools in last night. Once I get everything in and situated I'll see if there's anything else I want to run through the walls then we will insulate and drywall.

Looks fantastic, but I imagine the lack of a man door is gonna **** from time to time, especially days you have heat going and someone comes by.

You are probably right, but if that's my only complaint I'll be happy. :lol_hitti

Thanks brotha. There's definitely a lot of options for mid rise lifts. Are you thinking scissor or two post?

That would definitely be disheartening. The RX-7 was the reason I learned how to wrench in the first place, there was no way I could afford it otherwise

Had the inaugural lift last night to do an oil change on the 8. Man is it nice not having to crawl around on the driveway in the cold!

Thanks! It was a bit chilly, I have a 5kW electric heater in there but it wasn't doing the job with no insulation and ~20°F ambient temps. Just gotta dress appropriately (love my quilt lined Carhartt overalls).

Nice! How high is it off the floor?

The top of the platforms are ~71" off the floor at full rise, then with the blocks the car is probably ~75".
