Just curious what that base was originally used for? barber chair? Any way that's a pretty neat idea for a vise stand.

I struggle with analysis paralysis and this project has languished for far too long. This thread has given me the inspiration to finally get it done. I have a plethora of vises as you all can imagine and couldn't decide which vise to mount on here.

I dont understand all these big words:headscrat

It was a dentist chair in it former life. I've got a barber chair base also and yet another dentist chair base. The last one listed is an electric/hydraulic model. I need to do a bit of restore on that base due to the mechanics involved. I plan to put a smallish bench top on that one.
A friend of mine made a business out of remodeling dentist offices and would throw these thing out.

Boatman: don't worry about BIG WORDS so to speak especially when you are posting pictures cause your projects more often just speak for themselves. that might be the nicest CHINESE WONDER VISE STAND i've ever seen. also i was going to offer to ship you a couple pieces of steel or aluminum plate until i noticed you covered the screw holes with walnut on the wood you mounted the vise onto. WELL DONE!!

ALL: so is there really a 1/2 inch or 1.5 inch Wilton Baby bullet or has the Holliday season produced a myth again like last years 10 & 12 inch wide jaw Parker vises?

i remember that BIGGEST VISE THREAD a few years ago with the baby bullet and i just found the link so you all take a look at post #103 and a few earlier posts by Micky O and you decide if there is a smaller baby bullet.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79320&page=4

also i think a few vises posted lately might need to be posted on this old thread that needs a few more.

You decide ??
Novelty lighter is 6 1/2" long, just about the length of a baby.

I think VA tried something like this with his Pittsburg auto-vise. :D

ALL: for those of you looking in on your cell phones where it's a little harder to go from thread to thread here are the BABY BULLET pics in the Biggest vise thread that really does have a few BIG UNS in it.

Zoomie & VA: if you have some quality garage time today any chance you might see if the power arms fit on the clamp style baby bullets you have? also maybe post up a few pictures?

FYI: I've seen one member's chrome plated baby PRENTISS vise that if i recall correctly was a working vise and maybe a one inch jaw. i don't have any pictures on this computer of it so i'll have to PM him to see if he will post a few. or maybe you can search and find them cause i posted pictures of this vise maybe 2 years ago.

Not to worry Drives, the wood is 1 1/2" maple counter top one of my customer's was throwing out 'cause there was some water staining around the sink. Yes I put some cross bolts in it but there also is a 3/8" aluminum plate underneath. Had I known I was going to use this vise from the start I would have used a bigger plate. That was part of the paralysis.

Here is my Wilton 400. Just got done with repainting it a few days ago. I am thinking about sanding all of the lettering (or brushing silver) on the sides to let it stand out more. Painted with House of Kolor Brandywine over black, and silver marble. Here are some pics!

Should enter this vise in the vise awards thread. I bet that paint job took some time. Looks like a candy color mixed with an old burnt transmission fluid. It looks like its not even dry. Definitely cool!

Busted! Further examination of the Reese's picture shows that it is a 453 gram ONE POUND Reese's that appears to be re-touched. Compare this photo! Also found a single 8 oz cup is 4" in diameter, times 2 = 8" plus the wrapper. A 2" bullet is about 6 1/2" long.

Yep agreed about Micky Os claim he never posted a measurement picture and those don't lie. here is picture of my little rock island salesman sample and it has just a bit over 1/2 jaws.

No, that is a std Wilton Baby. you have to know MickeO, and take almost anything he says with a grain of salt... One of the Great Jokesters of GJ!

Also for those of you not aware of it there is a tiny bullet vise kit by Morrison and Marvin Engine works, this is actually a 1/4 scale 9450 and as such has 1 1/8" wide jaws. You need to be a good machinist to finish it off. http://www.morrisonandmarvin.com/vise.php

I highly recommend you google some of the builds of this vise kit before you buy it.

Yeah I snagged that little rock off the bay. On another note just finished the paint job on a 4in rock island no.93. It's now just time to make a handle and a shaft collar. 2a64c181cc5745fd70351cdfc9e0cba6.jpg

I saw that one on eBay but passed. Those exposed screw vises are no good for welding!:lol_hitti

Here is a monster Keystone vise made by hollands. It has 7/8 jaws and even has pipe jaws on the back half. Nice salesman sample I got years ago. Not sure what it weighs:willy_nil

I'm talking with a guy who has one of those plus others I'm trying to pick up. If I get the deal done I'll post it up.

Easy guys... he's a member and frequent poster here... He's just trying to make a buck . No harm in that.

Agreed, great point, thank you!

I know how hard it is to get a decent collection and what I have invested, not to mention, I know the "value" of each, as "we" study them like a job/hobby.
I follow the "market" so to speak also, some of us have quite an investment, whether "people" agree or not.
A price is a price, they go up, they go down.
But Value, is Value and I pay for quality.
That guy, not even sure who he is, has some nice stuff.
He's got 5 that I would buy and pay to ship.
So I guess it's really about the buyer and the seller, no...?

I love a good "market conversation", because as I said, I've cash ******* in these "things", LOL!

I welcome all to discuss, or not, but I see the prices too, and some of us (tiny Hollands or whatever...), see the value in a "rare" specimen...

I hope our cast iron turns out to be gold, or at least, we have some fun...

Take Care ALL!
Merry Christmas!
