Well, off on Saturday finally and only 1 single garage sale. Its n the low 40s with 30 mph winds. (was 78 yesterday, Texas weather, gotta love it) the only G sale listed said TOOLS first thing. I got there and it was a let down pretty much Taiwan wrenches and sockets. But I did score a vintage Pepsi collectors glass of HOT STUFF the little Devil. Still got a couple comic books of him. Headin out I turn the corner and there is a G sale with Tools! A guy from the flea market having a sale with no advertisement. A month ago he had a Williams ratchet with some sockets in a little red box, I passed it up for $20 at the flea market. It was there today, scored it for $5!! Sockets are all crafstman metric 3/8 drive, an /sk 1" extension, and a Thorsen swivel. Plus a 10" P & C adjustable wrench for $2.

Probably last of the year stuff, $3 well spent. The guy ahead of me at the 2nd sale got a frozen 3/4 par-x ratchet, didn't need it, but still bummed I missed it😫 nterestng Utica adjustable, and one of the sockets is a 5/16 meteor

Picked a few items on Friday.

First few stops were a few small items.
Pic 1. I spent $2 for both Wiha red and yellow electrical pliers, $1 for the working green timer with the rockets ship pointer and $6 for the rest of the stuff pictured. The white handled screwdriver is a Snap On and the fingernail polish remover works great for taking off Sharpie price marks.

I saw this same rocket ship timer on the Batman VS Superman movie, makes it even cooler now!

Also realized I never posted up one of my finds, will have to wait until tomorrow some light for pictures. It's outside because it's that big!

Great end of year finds guys!

Hmmm I wonder if ANYONE will have any yardsales on Christmas Eve day? (or new years eve day for that matter) This may be it other than any CL finds!

The day started with a wimper, No tools at all; the closest was a bunch of partial boxes of screws that restocked me a bit.

Anyway First "score" if you will was an LED Tet light for a Buck 3 brand new AAA's too!) and a magnesium fire starter tossed in free. The round disc is to tie inside the tend and has a steel plate for the back magnet to grab - Nice as this way I can just grab and go, and even leave the plate inside the tent semi permanently, while keeping the light out and if needed the batteries out to avoid leaks... (This may just get Lithium's...)

attachment.php

Second stop was the screw collection the two boxes of "grabber" screws are some I use all the tine. (top center) $3

attachment.php

I went back out to my first stop later in the day as they were late getting setup... and caught them tearing down early... :dunno:

Asked about tools and got walked back into their back shop (Nice shop building - Wish I had it) and a box of "old rusty stuff"

Three cleaning rods (short brass for .22 pistol, a complete 3 piece Marbles steel rod for 30 cal (or bigger) and two sections of a brass rod missing the handle section), J. P, Danielson "Bet'r-Grip" 6" adjustable with a 1/2" HEX in the handle hole! (first one this size!), the tiniest "ice pick" I've ever seen, a small wood handled Stanley Phillips, stubby, a 1/4 hex drive socket set, and a wrench with multiple heads with three of the heads. (no brand marked - just "Pats Pendg".

FYI AA has a fairly recent update on the J. P, Danielson Co! Apparently they existed 2X! and the first iterations was absorbed by Crescent!

Top, its probably an early version of the Park Metalware Company and their interchangeable head wrench line. I have a set of those but that set had a spring loaded keeper button/release so the head doesn't part company with the handle.

AA has a listing for Park but no pics of these or the other set I have.

I agree Outlaw. Looks like Park Metalware XCel wrenches. I passed on a really ugly set a year ago, mainly because they did not hold. I hope to find a nice set some day that is reasonably priced because they were local.

Marty love the Indian and Bonney with those cool decals.

Top it sure was a tight race and the end result surprised me!

Got bored and went through my garage snapping some pics of various things...

A while ago an old man who was in bad health was clearing out his little shop with tons of tools. Prices weren't giving it away but they were more than fair, and I walked away with a lot of made-in-usa goodies...

Space heater is an old Arvin 240v 3200w/5600w that my neighbor found at a garage sale new in the box! (probably because it was 240v) I have no idea of the year, I'm guessing 60's or 70's, it has older style legs and is missing a couple lights that I see on newer-ish models. Really takes the chill off quickly in my 3-car garage. Only paid $20. (Edit - I don't run it there on the pile of wood, it's just stored up against the back of my bench.)

Next up is some large TRW made-in-usa wrenches, 7 I think. Sizes between 13/16 to 1-1/4... I *think* I paid $20 for them, probably less.

An assortment of mostly USA Craftsman metric wrenches 6mm - 19mm. I think just the 11mm isn't. I'm missing the 16 & 18mm. I've got a 16mm on the way, now just have to find the 18mm.... I think I paid maybe a total of $6-$8 for the set thus far.

Random parts bins that were full of good stuff! $1 for small, $2 for large. Rivet gun in that green box, I forgot what I paid for it but it's very nice all metal.

6,8,10" CMan adjustable wrenchs, USA of course... I think $2 for the 10 and $1 each for the 8 & 6". Paid $1 for the diamond (actually less probably as it was a bundle buy, I just finished cleaning it up today and stuck it there to get it out of my way).

14 - 3/8" 6pt Deep Well Sockets + holder, Craftsman USA, SAE & Metric... $20... I forgot the sizes off the top of my head but the largest I think is 19mm and the SAE equivalent. Anyhow, they are good general sizes.

Penncraft 4100 1/2" Drive ratchet. Not sure of tooth count but it's pretty fine, and operates very smooth... $3

3bay well I'm admin already on several fb pages and really didn't need another reason to spend more time online :willy_nil It takes away from my tool time! Hopefully it won't slow down your buying! I've been looking hard for a sale before years end but so far I'm just coming up with mid weAk old lady sales and no farm auctions...

Next up are an older pair of 1/2 & 3/8 Craftsman ratchets. Low tooth count but they are just cool... Don't remember how much I paid for them, probably around $5 each or less...

Red box full of 1/4" drive sockets and such. I think it was $5 or $6... All Taiwan but still handy.

Drill Doctor 750X (Their top model)... $40 (bought that from the old man with all the tools). Sure beats the $130 new price. I was really surprised how well it worked, especially with smaller bits.

AC Delco 3500/3000W Generator... $30... Had carb issues. It's that common cheap chinese engine, after cleaning carb a couple times I gave up and ordered a new carb from China for like $12-$15 I think... Works great and has enough juice to power the heater (I'm on gas and I forgot the HP of the blower) and fridge...

Garden tools I generally pay $1-$2 each. Those sledges I think I paid $5 each.

A nice Proto ball peen hammer, brand new... I think $6... Other used one probably $1.

The gray clamps in the pic were made-in-usa, I got 4 matching ones I think $2 each? Putty knives and scrapers and such I think 50 cents each.

Ran out of pictures to attach but also got an unopened gallon of WD-40 for $8. Guy was really firm at that price, but it's still cheaper than $20 at Lowes.

I need to go up in my attic and take pics of the metal tool boxes I found too. Usually pay a couple bucks for each. I think I have one Kennedy I paid 50 cents for.

Usually most hand tools I try to pay only $1 for, give or take. I've bought a couple Klein linesman pliers, Channellock 430 pliers, some needle nose, and other adjustable wrenches. Sorry I don't have pics a lot of those I gave to friends that need some basic hand tools. I also found a sale and bought a bunch of ryobi cordless stuff for $1 each... Hammer drill, regular drill, reciprocating saw, 4 or 5 batteries, 2 chargers. Each item was only $1, lol.... You can usually find a lot of the blue ryobi stuff CHEAP, I guess everyone wants the florescent green now. Gave them to a friend that needed some power tools.

Outlaw, nice cleaning rods, I like the old sturdy ones.

Good $ 3 refill on the screws. I despise having to go buy from the big box.

Congratulations 3bay!

I'll try to contribute to the thread before the end of the year but I've been working on buying a house with a 30'x60' detached garage so my money spending has been nixed for awhile. We are down to negotiation on roof repair of the house. Won't close on the house til February if everything goes well.

Purchased these at an on-line auction last night. I'll pick them up tomorrow.

Blue Frog

I have a pile of similar stuff on my local Craigslist, but zero interest yet. You give me hope that it will sell at some point. Curious what you paid for that versa vice if you are willing to share, I have one just like the red one based on the pictures you posted.

So what you're saying is that your garage sale find is ..... the garage itself !
30x60 - nice. I'd have that baby filled to the brim before the ink was dry on the closing papers. Good luck with the negotiations. Looking forward to seeing the pictures if/when the sale happens.

I really like the williams set, pretty neat stuff. I have the same ratchet that was my great grandfather's, it has a really neat old rubber grip he made for it.

Due to these GJ influences, all 3 of these Hein Werners had to follow me home. 3 different sales the Fall. I just kept falling into them. Total ~$100. 'O'boy, WS, & K.

And I'd appreciate to learn what this Wilton vice's purpose is? $30.

I found this on a local fb page for sale. Snap-on show case upper and lower . He's asking 700 obo and has been for sale for 4 months. What kind of quality is this and what would a good price be? How old are these? I haven't bought a box in such a long time I'm really out of touch with prices with new ones costing used car money. :shocking:

This is the only photo. Is it worth a look?

I'd say its at least worth a look. I'd love to have one of those. 500 seems ok but 700 is more than I'd spend.

KTM, the Wilton is just swiveling side to side for flexibility of use. a (lame) attempt to compete with the Versa Vise's BF just posted. those swivel in 2 axis, and have the ability to be used 90 deg and still have 1 axis rotation. Other than that is just an inexpensive light duty exposed screw vise.

Picked up a few items yesterday from antique stores. A Goodell-Pratt spiral screwdriver for $1.50. It works, but needs a bit of cleaning to make it work smoothly. I picked up the Blatz cone top beer can as a present for my brother and the chrome piece.just needed to come home with me. I think it is the bullet piece from a Studebaker bullet nose. The can and chrome were $40.20161218_083352.jpg20161218_083412.jpg20161218_083253.jpg20161218_083247.jpg

On Friday bought a hand plane that had a pressed metal frog and cast in the top portion of the base was the letter U in a circle, the # 10 and Made in USA. (pic 6)

On the rear of one of the cutter irons, it has Metal Products Corp. Made in USA, ParPlus in a diamond and West Haven, Conn. (pic 7)

Found out in searching that these may have been made by Peck, Stow and Wilcox around 1925 era and that these were sold on the low end economy side of the hand plane market.

Worth also sold a similar hand plane with pressed metal frog and it also may have been made by Peck, Stow and Wilcox as well.

This hand plane is 10 inches long by 2-1/2 inches wide, but not prized by collectors, who prefer the frog to be cast iron.

Also got a wood marking gauge with no mfg marking, but an owner mark of YOUNG stamped onto it.

Mike

I'll tell ya, I really like how tools, shops and such bring people together, often time just by chance. I'm selling my Delta tablesaw and before listing on CL, I texted a guy who bought some stuff a few months back. He offered a little less than what I was going to ask, but a quick sale and not dealing with calls is worth it.

Shows up, says he had a issue with cash, would I hold it for $30 until tomorrow, sure I said, all you had to do was text me. I wanted to see it and ask you in person. He came from a hour away.

So we get to talking about tools, he's from Chicago, worked estates sales and was telling me about a unique wrench he had. Meanwhile I had a CM scroll saw I had just listed and he's interested, I told him think it over and make me a offer.

He goes to leave, I'm working in shop and I hear him calling me from gate, I go over and he s showing me the wrench. Really neat probably early 1900s at least and I go to hand it back, he's says, no, my gift to you, thanks! I've must of had the most dumbfounded look on my face at that point. This guy took the time to text me on the stuff he bought a couple months ago to say how happy he was with it.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but just wanted to share.
Oh, Heres the wrench.

I'm far from a wrench expert but it could be a walden-worchester. I think they made some twisted wire wrench's like that. They normally marked well but it could be under the dirt or wore off.
Great story though . Thanks for sharing!

Well I went to look at the Snap-on box and we came to a deal at $475. I looked at every thing sears had to offer and even on sale nothing compared to the sturdiness of this box. It's not perfect. A couple of small dents on the back. One slide is messed up and the bracket that holds the upper lid on is broken. It's dirty from being in a body shop for 30 years and the paint is a bit faded. I hope after cleaning it up a bit it will brighten up. It's the 65th anniversary edition and has ghost wrench's faded into the paint. Pretty neat so I hope it cleans up nice!

I'm not sure it's a barn burner of a deal but it will hopefully serve me well for many years.

Thriftstore that's usually closed Sundays, but open for the impending holiday. Two 11" Bonney Zenel DOEs and a 1/2dr 1-1/4" socket. All for $6. Worth the stop. Same place had a Z2828 (Zenel 7/8" single offset DBE), but I want to check the condition of the one I already have; the one in the store has a slight offset on the end that's supposed to be straight, maybe a PO-mod. Otherwise in great condition.

I had that same box years ago traded it in for my matco triple bay. Wish Iwould of kept that box and paid cash straight up for the matco. I loved that box very nice setup.

Find from a local online auction. One more step to being safer in my shop, a ladder rated for my fat ***.

Wow! That is awesome! I always wanted a matching combo like that rather than my single lonely bottom.

That's a nice setup. I think it's a great box for the price, you'll be much happier with it 10 years from now than anything you could have got at Sears for more than double that price.

Thanks Junk I went there thinking 500 like you suggested. I shot him an offer of 450 he said 500 was his bottom . I started to walk out and he said he would meet in the middle at 475! I'm glad he couldn't tell how bad I wanted it for real!!! :bounce:

Impact? I hit Norristown and Montgomery today, and other than a bailey plane at retail, struck out on tools...

Nothing huge, but scored this Proto Professional USA 704-L 4" Clik-Stop adjustable wrench for $5. It's in very good shape, only slight use.

Dave I think I will be also. I took one drawer out to see what's going to work the best to clean it up. The upper lip on every drawer has a film of what looks like bondo dust or primer over spray or both... Any thoughts?
