I was putting together some 3/4" drive tools and bought a Snap-on short handle and breaker bar head. I didn't need the short handle, but I found a vintage L-52B on eBay that turned it into a tee handle, so I bought it. Turned out to be 1947 vintage, same as me.

many years ago my son borrowed my 12" Vlcek adjustable and it came back the snap on pictured below. This was about 25 years ago. Is there any way of dating it? There is no date stamp on it.

I looked on AA site and they think SO/BP adjustable wrenches continued to be manufactued by Diamond. The last image on their Diamond adjustable wrench section has the same broaching in the handle as yours, and they date it approximately based on the Diamond logo. Until someone does a type study including the style of your wrench, in the absence of date stamps, I think 1960ish-1980ish is as specific as you can get.
I looked on Toolarchives, but I didn't see Diamond or Snap-on/Blue Point adjustable wrenches represented as an area of study. Possibly, perusing the Collecting Snap-on site's posted catalogs could yield illustrations that would dial in the date a bit more.

Some 1/2sq drive sockets I picked up over the summer, but don't recall posting. Took pics to show the date codes, mostly.
First image shows 1927, 1929, 1929, 1927, 1930. The 9/16 (1929) is a 12pt, but the rest are 6pt.
Third image show 1929 & 1930. Thought it was interesting the the different knurl patterns were contemporaneous. The other images of these same sockets show the part numbers. The No416 is an 8pt. The SW250 is interesting for having "PAT" with no date or number, and a repeat large "D" stamped on it.
Seventh image shows 1945 (G) in plain steel, 1945 (G) in chrome, 1947 (notice the change in knurl after 1943), 1937, 1944 (E) is a 1" socket.

Thanks. Yes, you nailed it, I think.
It looks to me like they changed the catalog drawings only when introducing a new tool, so the illustrations probably DON'T capture minor changes like the broaching detail which would help to lock down a date.
The 1975 catalog p115 introduces a "TigerLock" wrench (an adjustable wrench with a vise-grip lever) with the same broaching detail, available in 10" and 14" lengths. Part D310. So that detail on their other adjustable wrench may very well date to the mid-70s, and just not show up in the re-used illustrations.
The 1980 catalog p152 shows the same old re-used illustration for a single adjustable wrench, but also introduces a boxed SET with a new illustration, in which all sizes have the broaching detail.
If the "return" happened 25 years ago, it seems it must have been relatively new at the time.

I have an old ww2 era 1/2" and 9/32 drive 5/16 square. Both with no dates, but i researched the other day and they arent valuable. Im was trying to throw together a snap on lot to try and trade for a proto or sk ratchet, but most is boring 60s SAE stuff.

While I'm at it can anyone tell me about the 1/2"F to 3/4"M adapter - it has both a retaining ball AND a retaining pin, is this normal from the 50s?

I realize this is an old post, but possibly. I have an un dated one that appears to be 1960s, and it has both.

Today I completed my No84 Ferret set (last updated in post 324). 38 pieces, plus the FB50 metal case, all date-stamped 1939-1942. I am still on the lookout for the removable metal tray. And where did I put the Eagle Lock and key?

That is a great looking Ferret set. I know from my 1/2" drive experience that getting those dated sockets in the exact correct year is very difficult. Here are a couple of wartime drag link bits I picked up recently for my wartime sets. The first is an A15 from 1945 and the other is an A17 from 1942.

I added the logo shot to my previous post. The more I look at the date stamp the more it does look like 1990, but the logo and the broaching made me think it older.

I had one like that that was my first 1/2" drive ratchet. It was purchased in about 1954. I recently purchased an SV71A which looks just like that to replace my first purchase. It has a 1965 date stamp. I found them in the older catalogs before collecting snap on died.

Early [S-6] 6 Inch Extension with Square Shaft
The 1926 catalog offered two 1/2-drive extensions, a 5 inch model No. S-6 and a 10 inch No. S-12.
The drive stud has a spring-loaded detent ball and two fixed stop-balls, the standard construction for early drive tools.

No. 8 Universal
Among the early tools, Snap-On offered only a single universal joint, the model No. 8 for 1/2-drive.
The tapered base is characteristic of the universals made in the 1920s
