but on the bright (?) side, i just loaded up my stepson with some hand tools, and a vintage CM cantilever box so he can start (trying) to fix his own car.

i guess i'll have to replace all the stuff i gave him....

Have you had a chance to compare it to any other cordless grinders?

I'm getting ready to move on to a new cordless platform and an angle grinder will be a pretty important part of that as they are useful for some of the trail maintenance I do.

I occasionally borrow and carry a Dewalt DCG412 and it is very bulky with the hand guard. So if you've ever seen your Fuel next to a Dewalt or the brushless Makita I'd be curious to hear if there is any noticeable difference in bulk. Not weight necessarily but the amount of room it will take up in my pack.

ive kinda switched over to milwaukee for my cordless work tools. i didnt really do much comparing at the time i started switching over. to me, milwaukee had what i needed, when i needed it, and for a reasonable price.
at the time i needed a 3/8"dr LI-ion brushless impact, the milwaukee was readily available. i had put up with enough BS with ridgid's warranty, and they didnt have a 3/8" dr brushless impact, there werent as many options for brushless at the time.

my milwaukee stuff has taken a beating in my service truck, grease, oil, mud, coke dust, and diesel fuel havent killed them yet. impact and flashlight are over 3 years old now. i couldnt get a ridgid battery to last a year without crapping out.

the grinder isnt an everyday use tool, i have air if i need it, but for cutting a couple rusted bolts or nuts off it works great for me.

My 1/2 mini aircat impact. Love that thing. Abuse the hell out of it. It'll be wore out before the 2 year warranty for sure, dont care. Ill buy another and another. For 100 bucks you cant beat it.

working on the pontiac without lying on my back is a wonderful thing, and having a high quality welding rig is infinitely better than having a cheap one.

neither were cheap, both were excellent purchases, though.

I have always wanted an Air-conditioning fitting crimper. I had been watching Craigslist for more than a year, I even ran an WANTED advert. I called a local distributor and was told $1700. I got it off Amazon.ca for $404 with 2 day free shipping.
Another favorite is a new PAASCHE air brush and compressor from a storage locker sale. The set was $40
December was a good month.

My Ellis 1100 Band saw. Still disassembled and needs work but will be up and running in 2017 hopefully. Or maybe my Lista 7 drawer cabinet still sitting in the garage needing paint and refurbished and extra tlc. It's a toss up.

Setting up 2 shops this year had me spending a fortune on tooling them up, so it would be darn near impossible to pick a favorite- but...
1- dust collection setup- prolly the smartest thing I did.
2- dust makers- customized uni-saw, shaper, sanders, ect
3- big bead blast cabinet- not set up yet
4- kick *** compressor and plumbing.
5- Bendpak xpr-10a
I just hope 2017 keeps us as busy as we've been fortunate enough to have been the past few years!

That is nice, Here in Canada our Sears Selection is all off-shore and nothing like it used to be back in the day.
I buy vintage Sears/Craftsman tools when I can, only.
Here in Canada Sears used to sell the ATLAS lathe and a their line of machinist tools that rivaled STARRETT. I would not take anything they offer, even as a gift.

Most favorite acquisition this year?
Difficult decision but I purchased 6 Vidmar cabinets, which has reduced my blood pressure and cursing over misplaced items. Have just about every small item I own in the cabinets, nuts , bolts, tools, medicine ,money,sewing thread ammo, personal papers etc...great relief for a disorganized person with a lot of stuff.

i've had lots of great finds at the swap meet over the past year and it would be difficult/impossible to declare one purchase as being the winner. still, i'll say that my Snap-on KR-557 rolling box (1978) gave me the biggest thrill upon purchase and i have no regrets for ownership. for the cost of 3 cartons of cigarettes, i'd say i did alright.

My tool cart, it's just so convenient to roll around the whole with damn near anything I'll need on a given job. Really only rarely used tools are kept in the box. Also has a power rack so I can plug it in, has some USB ports on it. Not really used often honestly. More of a novelty but hey why not get it

1. DeWalt 18v grease gun, way better than a pistol grip Lincoln when you have roughly 110 fittings to grease on one piece of equipment

2. Wera screwdriver set with stricking caps. They're awesome.

3. Matco Cooling System tester with universal adaptors. The adaptors work and fit perfect on everything I've tried them on so far. Way better than buying a bunch of separate adaptors for $70 a piece. Or not having an adaptor at all.

I replaced my aging dewalt cordless drill with a makita from the LXT line of lithium ion. I picked makita for the sheer size of options, and I've got multiple corded makita tools that are all excellent. I may upgrade to their big brushless impact wrench next year, but I've still got my craftsmen c3 impact with nickel and lithium batteries that does the job for now.

Also got my tool cart squared away early in the year (last year present) and I love it. It's the 5 drawer harbor freight. My garage is a workshop and I have to bring tools out to the driveway to work on cars, and this is probably the best upgrade I've made all year.
