And one of the swivel locks just sorta broke off while in storage on the shelf.

Don't think it broke off, just unscrewed completely, allowing the swivel lock bolt to drop down all the way. Look at the surface of the bolt, it's not a fracture surface.

Regarding Monarch 224 interchangeable parts with Prentiss. Since Monarchs are rebadged Prentiss' you just have to match up models. I just personally picked up a Monarch 222. This model, I believe, is exactly the same as a Prentiss 95. Swivel, 3-tab base with single swivel lock and 5 1/2 inch jaws. BTW, What size are the jaws on your Monarch 224?

Nice job Get. I like that Copper / Bronze color. I painted a Prentiss #20 the same color and the new owner stripped it and painted it bright Red that Oldie likes. I gotta paint one a red to get a smile out of Oldie. I had time and finished a Prentiss 19 swivel jaw today. Had fun restoring this one.

Kevin,. Your choice of color was much better than mine. It seems like all the vises I have done lately have been some shade of green. I will go to a auto parts store and see what I can find in the Dupli-Color car paint section. I just couldn't go back with the plain gray on that Reed.

I know what you mean Get, this Rust-Oleum Hammered Dark Green color shows up well in pic's. it is a nice Vise color in my opinion. I will try a Satin Blue on my Reed 1C. I like that color on the Reed Combination vises.
I live where our humidity is real low, shucks today it's snowing and we are at a 25% level in my shop. I use a rust preventive on all my bare steel. Sometimes I use this Mold Shield or Cosmoline Rust Veto. My bare jaws will flash rust after a month or so.
On another note, I am working on a big Reed and you guys know which one. It has lived outside for much of it's life, a quick wire wheel and it cleaned up pretty good. I guess if you keep a little oil or grease on these old vises they can take the rain and humidity, I was quite surprised. I will add pic's later of this Reed project, getting close to finishing.

Sometimes you get a good deal and sometimes you screw up. I stopped by a place selling antiques and stuff. I spied this Reed 203 1/2R and the Wilton 9350. The Reed is stuck closed and will be a project. The Wilton looked OK, I unscrewed it about an inch and the teeth on the jaws looked good and no obvious damage. I was in a hurry to make it to a hospital appointment so I made what I thought was a decent deal.
Then I got home and unscrewed the Wilton the rest of the way
Plus the rest of the slide is stuck inside the main body.
Now I need some beer, or two or three...
Oooohhh that *****. been there too many times myself BUT there is always a silver lining. I left you a pm....

Finished up a couple of vises over the weekend....a clean, older 500S that I decided needed a set of KMScott jaws, and a 1760 done up in Snap-On Extreme Green, also with a set of KMScott jaws. 
I tried something new on the 1760 that I think I'm going to use again in the future. I put a coat of Spraymaxx 2K clear coat over the Snap-On paint. It's a true automotive-grade two-part clear coat. You have to activate it by hitting a plunger on the bottom which allows the two parts to mix. The good thing is it won't mess with the underlying paint the way many rattle-can clear does, and it doesn't get damaged by solvents or gasoline (very popular for motorcycle restoration projects). The bad parts are that it's expensive, it's toxic, and you have to use all of it within 24-48 hours (depends on the temperature).
If you really want to go crazy, wet sand with 800 grit after 12 hours and then hit it with another coat....very impressive.
I noticed the black letters weren't quite right after taking this pic, so I did a little touch up and they're much better now.

The table is a small welding table I bought at auction in November. It had a 500S bolted to it that had a small crack in the dynamic jaw support, and a cracked base, but I needed the inner ring and swivel locks to finish the 500S I just posted, so it all worked out. I added casters to the table and it's really handy for welding, painting and posing pictures...the vise was just a bonus.

Mooreag47, Your Monarch 224 with 6 inch jaws should use same nut as a Prentiss 96. Is that 224 a swivel base? It's tough getting Monarch vise info. Prentiss is easy to find.

Previous homeowner left a WARDS Deluxe Quality vise when I bought my house. So little info out there on these. Its needs some TLC and onto my bench it will go.
I have seen pics with the 112/113 cast into it. This one (in my possession) has 118/117 casting marks.

since I posted a few days ago been following this long thead, got me thinking about some of my vices and getting to restore a few.
but here's a pic of one I had but sold a couple years ago. paid $1 for it at auction--it was on a nice stand I repurposed for a grinder. I never used it and as it had a broken post on one side and it just sat in the way so I answered a CL wanted ad and sold it to a guy for $35...
it's an odd one I haven't seen on here yet (unless I missed it). Emmert from early teens, 3 separate jaws that spin, and it flips up. you can see the broken round piece in the 2nd pic.
kinda wish I kept it now, seeing how you guys are able to restore these things so beautifully...but it went to a good home.
