CAT rechargable LED worklight at Costco

I'm a sucker for lights. I've bought too many over the years, only to end up not using them. One of the exceptions is the Costco Snap-on branded LED corded worklight being discussed in a couple of other threads -- I've bought several of those and they're excellent.

Here's another one. Costco has had this CAT-branded rechargable LED worklight in my local warehouse for a few months, and although I've been tempted, I was able to resist. No more -- got one the other day for about $30. Haven't seen it discussed here and thought some of y'all might be interested.

[UPDATE: It was talked about -- see this earlier thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338714]

The price isn't anything special -- quite likely to be discounted if they continue to have stock on the shelves in a month or so. But it's fairly priced, if not cheap.

It's really quite decent -- better than I expected.
  • Made of diecast metal with plastic protective trim. Build quality seem high -- doesn't feel cheesy or plasticky at all.
  • COO China, of course.
  • IP64 protected against dust (highest rating) and water (medium rating against splashing).
  • State of charge indications with LEDs on back panel and on wall-wart charger.
  • USB charging port.
  • Multi-level brightness LED with surprisingly good pattern uniformity -- nearly perfectly flat illumination -- no hot or cold spots -- and bright enough for most of my needs around the house and garage.

This seems to be a good 'un.

Nice review! How about a picture this light illuminating a wall/objects at 15-20' away while the room is dark...... EG: Basement, garage, etc.

Thanks in advance!!

Here are a couple of shots inside my 20' by 20' garage, the first from the corner shooting inward and the other from the side wall shooting toward the diagonal. Not brilliant light, but quite uniform and more than enough if one is close to the work.

Note that the light is positioned in one shot to show the beam cutoff.

I bought one months ago and loved it.....have 3 now and bought my son and son in law ones for Christmas. I have one that has taken a beating, been dropped several times and it is still working great. I highly recommend them.

Thanks, I've been looking for a decent little LED spotlight to use under the vehicle and around the house.

I saw this on here awhile back. Unfortunately I don't have a Costco near me. But I saw it in a tool ad through Carquest. Funny thing is they were selling it for well over $100.

Wish it went even lower. 550 lumens is sometimes too bright when working up close.

I believe the OP mentions that it has adjustable light output (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Looks like I will be taking a trip to Costco! Thanks!

Correct. Two positions. It's described as 1100 lumens "high" + 550 lumens "low".

Hah! I thought they must have been talked about, but missed your previous thread originally and in my Costco + CAT search prior to posting! Sorry 'bout that, kctyphoon.

Lol. No need to apologize, been a little while since that was posted anyway.. I only chimed in to contribute more Info..

Also - if you lightly depress the on/off button, you can skip through the two settings without having to turn the light off, and then back on to cycle the output.. it's a good light - not amazingly great like it's the lost arc, but well worth the money.

This is a nice one, I have the CAT / EZ-Red hand-held rechearable worklight which outputs 100 lumens, bought it for around $20 through Sears. It has a decent output as well, rugged, waterproof, and came with a micro-USB charging cable.

I bought one of these to, a few weeks ago, someone had posted it in a thread. I really like it, nice big lamp without having a huge depth males it easier for me to position where I need it.

Can this thing run continuously if it's left plugged in? If they are 18650 batteries, this is actually a really good deal as you're basically getting two batteries, a charger, and a light all in one.

It appears it will run with the charger plugged in. It certainly turns on, and one would expect the line power would be more than enough to keep up.

They had only eight of 'em at my Costco today, and the item description/price tag has an asterisk on it -- "*" means the item isn't going to be restocked.

I believe the instructions did say that it will run of the wall adaptor and charge simultaneously.

The "trick" at Costco is IF you see something you like, buy it right there because it may not be there tomorrow....... You can always return it.

I have always gone by what 4xdog posted - if there is an asterik in the upper right corner, they are not going to restock that product and the existing inventory is it for that store

No restock doesn't necessarily mean it's gone forever. A lot of seasonal items will carry the asterisk, and you'll be able to buy it year after year.

That said, they're good ways to denote which items to watch for price drops.

My father got the OK from them to return a 3yr old GPS unit.. there is no return limit in Costco.. so basically u have nothing to loose from buying anything there if it dies one day.

Seems like abuse of Costco return policy. Warranty is from gps manufacturer if something wrong,, not Costco.. 3yrs old, guessing manufacturer warranty is over... Unless it's the old get newer model every 3yrs games shopping crowd.. Hope he sleeps fine at nights.

Nothing to lose??? only Yur honor code of ethics.

^^ Yep.

That kind of abuse is why they clamped down, on electronics specifically. It's now 90 day return for electronics.

Personally, I would not return something like that - but let me play devil's advocate for a minute. How is this any different that someone buying a beat up or broken Craftsman tool for pennies on the dollar at a yard sale and then returning it to Sears for a new one? (actually I think this example is worse, but there are plenty of members here that think this is A OK)

Costco's policy is "We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price" with some exceptions they specifically list

Damn! This is a mighty harsh judgement on someone's family member...... especially when Costco boasts their generous "return anything at anytime no questions asked" return policy.
I would NOT think about returning a 3 year old GPS but that is "just me" and I would NOT judge a Costco member who pays for a membership that gives them the right to return items if it meets the return policy.
I look at it this way for ALL garage guys and gals... If you use a 4' breaker bar on a Harbor Freight or Craftsman wrench and it breaks would you return it???? I would!...... and I would NOT want to be asked: "How do you sleep at night"

BTW! Thank you for upping my post count to #100
