I have a P C 18 Volt battery and it doesn't seem to want to take a charge anymore, I put it on the charger and the red light just blinks, My question is how can I check to see if it is shot or what is the matter?
You can measure the battery voltage with any cheap voltmeter. Do you have another battery that charges? That would suggest it is shot. Replace it. Neither charges would suggest charger problem.I have a P C 18 Volt battery and it doesn't seem to want to take a charge anymore, I put it on the charger and the red light just blinks, My question is how can I check to see if it is shot or what is the matter?
One possibility is to try jumping it with another battery. Plenty of youtube videos on how to do it. When battery reaches too low of a charge or has not been charge in a while. The charger won't charge it.I have a P C 18 Volt battery and it doesn't seem to want to take a charge anymore, I put it on the charger and the red light just blinks, My question is how can I check to see if it is shot or what is the matter?
NiCds grow thin fingers of material across the battery plates shorting out that cell. Forcing high current through the battery blows them out like a fuse. When this process has started the battery is not in good shape and has already lost a lot of capacity. It often brings them back for a while but the fingers, called dendrites tend to grow back.People use all kinds of things like car batteries, welders, power supplies to blow out the dendrites. You dont repair a problem without confirming it. This is not the best thing to do to a good battery. Measure the battery first. If it reads nothing it is probably open and a lost cause. If it reads low by some multiple of 1.2 volts probably that many of the cells are shorted and it is worth shot. One possibility is to try jumping it with another battery.
