The metal signs look great. Make sure your mate gets a pic of the installed house number, and likewise yourself for the Sunoco sign.

Also make sure you check out this video on UK sign writer David Smith https://vimeo.com/14985356. He's actually holding a gold leaf signage course here in Sydney later in the year, but was more than I could afford.

Ken, I love that Sunoco sign. What would you charge to have one of those land over here? I would really like to purchase one from you if I don't have to refinance my home to do it.

I reckon best i could do would be around 75 of your american dollars :) depending on how much the powdercoater charges me to coat. the sign itself is 500mm x 250mm (20inx10in)

Ken, if you would sell me one of those, let me know the price including shipping. I would gladly pay around a 100 USD. I'm very serious about it. That sign is awesome. Can't wait to see the final result.

Wow, great work on the signs! My wife and I are interested in doing a sign for our front gate, if we come up with a design can you give us a quote?

couldnt get a good connection with the scotchlocks, so i twizzled the cables then scotch locked them. dsl is syncing at 44mbits now :willy_nil

finally hooked a power point up in my carport. got sick of tripping over a power lead. have had the junction box there for ages, but never got around to putting a power point on it

25B0000C-8369-45BE-8A59-3BE5AD55A001.jpg

the incline of my driveway acts as a big catchment area and floods my carport when it rains. a few months back i got some free class d trafficable grates and went about cutting the driveway.

E4B8A93D-CEDD-42E1-97CC-8C79B3D74720.jpeg

Didnt manage to get any progress shots, it was a paint in the *** the form up the set downs to allow for the grates, i dug down 150mm (6in) and laid a base of rubble and set a 90mm pipe in the form.

It was tricky to match the concrete colour, i used black oxide
A19CDF9D-14AE-4AAC-93D4-B22E947F4BD6.jpg

I fixed up lots of it with construction non shrink grout and oxide where i couldnt access due to formwork.

I also got some wheelie bins from a jobsite i was working at, the job finished and the plasterboard guys left the bins behind. i emptied them and hit them with the pressure washer, come up nice

Red will be for empties, and blue just for a general shed bin. (took my empties and scrap copper in today.. $66 for cans and bottles )

Been tidying up around my shed and carport, its been getting neglected so it was good to organise and throw out. Found a couple of textas

Didnt get any signs back from powder on friday, hoping monday :dunno:

Nice job on the drive way and the power outlet. Though I don't like scotch locks for networking cables. (to each their own). And for free, those bins are nice!!

Ken, great work on the drive way grates.

With the amount of rain you guys have been having of late there is nothing like having good drainage..

Does SA still have refunds on empty cans and bottles??

Regards

they are ****** rubbish, i believe its the industry standard for phone cabling, and technically im not supposed to touch that junction box :) my internet has been dropping out all night so i might need to connect it up better.

thanks mate, there was alot of swearing involved, lots of grinding and grouting, but the end result seems to work alright. Ive been using it as a washdown area.

Yeah we get 10c per can/bottle. Its good except if you dont count your own, i reckon they stitch you up with the number.

Good bit of progress ken, I'm down to 2 inkzall's now.

Thanks mate, oh no only 2 left :scared:

Scotch locks are sized 040 (.4mm2 conductor), 050 (.5mm2), 064 (.64mm2), and 090 (.9mm2).
They are only designed to take conductors of the same size. They need to be crushed with parallel jaw pliers or the special tool, which are just parallel jaw pliers with 3M on the handle (but they do have a depth stop to prevent you cleaving the conductor as generally happens when you use pliers), and the conductors should have their insulation left on.

Your UTP cable will be 050, the lead in appears to be an older one based on the style of enclosure, and looks to be 040 (040 is usually only found in those style enclosures). The scotch locks are coloured orange, which if my memory serves me correctly, are to fit 064 (Well at least thats how it was when I left the big T in 2013, I dont do any CPE work where I am now so its entirely possible that the colours changed and I didnt bother to read that memo  )

You probably need to get someone who is experienced in such things to re-do it because theres some other things should be done inside that enclosure.

And yes, best you dont go advertising you have been finger poking. The fine is in the order of 10K.

And yay for the libs plan of no bring fibre to the prem..
Im on a legacy cable plan at the moment because Telstra wont let me change unless its to an NBN plan, which means I have to pay more for less.. That was an interesting conversation with the sales person when they called me... but alas I digress.

Your signs look cool, interested in what they turn out like after powder coating.

Good to know! I have a registered cabler coming to sort it for me during the week. The scotch locks i had were just spares that i had. It was just a temporary fix to get the internet happening, ***** how much we rely on it these days.

how fast is your cable? probably faster than NBN anyway.. im only syncing at 15mbit atm.

Great job on the signs AND fixing your air compressor! I hope you're able to get your phone cabling sorted soon. Because as you said we all pretty heavily depend on our internet.

I currently have a 30MBit service.

Those signs are fantastic. Great work.

As for NBN I do believe many of us have been cheated as I will only get cable to the node and not fibre to the house unless I pay for it myself.

The original concept of fibre to the prem was solid in concept, and future proofed Australia for a good number of years to come, at the point they are at now, where NBN are re-laying copper cable you just have to shake your head. But this a garage thread with way cool signage made on a home built CNC plasma..
