I did some organizing in my tool box today, we will see how long this lasts and how it works out for me.

Installed a new battery and cables in my Wagoneer. It now starts again without needing to be jumped.

Experimented with 'white distilled vinegar' rust removal over the last couple days.

One of the items I put in the vinegar was a really rusted railroad spike. I let it sit a couple days then brushed away the rust with a small brass brush. Came out pretty good.

The spike was more heavily rusted then the wrench next to it in the picture. The yellow color on the spike is just some of the brass brush transferring onto it. That discoloration came right off with a lite brushing with a stainless brush. I also cleaned a bunch of wrenches that came out great too.

I'm sold on the vinegar and will now buy another five gallons and put it in a new plastic five gallon pail with removable lid.

The vinegar cost under $2.00 for a gallon at Shop-Rite. :D

MM, be a bit careful leaving things in too long in the vinegar. It will continue to eat metal, and it can also strip plating...

Ask Drives about his vise...

Do you have a thread on this? My house has crappy reception (either standing very still in one corner of an upstairs bedroom or out on the driveway which gets mighty chilly in the winter), so doing something like this would be a big quality of life improvement for us.

MM

No I do not. It was fairly straight forward. Put an antenna on the roof, and one inside. Run the provided cable between the two with the booster in the middle and done. Check out weboost.com
They make the best boosters for the money from my research. I paid $150 for this setup used. Had everything I needed.
I used galvanized fence post and some "structural pipe brackets" from lowes to make the external antenna mount.

My house belonged to my wife's grandparents. Grandmother passed in 2006, Grandfather passed in 1985. I've started to dejunk the 20x24 that I could barely walk in.

Ten contractor bags of trash that included one petrified hollow possum. I see a dumpster in my future this spring.

Grandfather was the parts manager at the GMC truck facility in Dallas so I'm finding interesting GMC stuff.

Worked on the Improved windscreen washer pump for my Peugeot. The bottom seal leaks, (on the last 2 that I've bought!)the motor fills with water, it rusts solid. Recently...(great word, covers a multitude of days).. I removed the pump, took it to work and xrayed it to get an idea of the internals, so I cut the top off the motor housing, drilled a drain hole in the motor part of the body, (for next time it leaks) then ground a small flat on the side of the shaft of the new motor from the electronics store, made a seal / washer from xray film (I am an xray tech) so water will?? prefer to go out the drain hole rather than go up into the motor. Sitting here sweating now, (30c, 85f at 11pm!) Wasn't much hotter during the day.

Added a new daily driver to my stable on Friday. Now I need to find room for it in the shop.

If you find any old GMC signs, I might be interested in purchasing one from you!

Changed the oil, checked fluids, rotated the tires, and replaced the cruise control switch on my daughters Honda accord, with her help of course. Well actually I should say I helped her........she did most of the work, I just supervised.

Also, keep in mind that vinegars vary in strength depending on the source. The concentration of acetic acid varies from one manufacturer to another, and different types of vinegar also have different pH.

I stopped using it for rust removal...the results were too inconsistent for me.

moved some items to the big unfinished detached garage. Floor loaded it all in the center so i could still get to the walls and electrical. House is just getting too cluttered and need to get some stuff out of my way.

Was able to get my exterior lights up before the rain. Still have to button up the wiring and for my switch to show up before I can cross it off the list

Luckily mine stays out year round for now...I live in North AL so it's not too bad of winters. But it's about to have twins and only come out on Saturday nights and will be replaced with a new 2017 Mercedes GLC43 coupe as a DD.

Got new push clips from amazon so i got the radiator cover and lower splash guard put back on the pilot. so that job is now officially done. Then spent 3 hours just going through junk on and around my garage bench. And got the amazon tv thing plugged in out there so i watched like 5 episodes of The Grand Tour.

Do you know the guy in New Castle that owns the Nursing Home?

They may not be lucky next week.

I changed the front and rear diff fluid in my truck and made/installed 5th wheel mounts.

I also added 1/0 gauge wiring to the rear to run my winch/jumper cables/trailers/etc.

I live in an apartment and the only power source is the garage door opener so I tapped into that and ran an extension cord so I can plug in some additional lighting and power some tools! ***** having a 1 car garage that you can't really modify.

Started on the valve job on the heads of my 84 BMW R80

Replaced the exhaust guides (actually did this part last night):

i-mC93BrR-L.jpg

I had the heads extremely clean, yet when they got to about 450 degrees they smoked like crazy and by the time I had the two old guides knocked out and the new ones in, I had to open the shop doors to air it out despite the outside temp hovering near zero at 9pm last night.

Cut the intake seats (3-angles):
i-C4P9NQp-L.jpg

Rough-lapped the intake valves to verify seat width and placement on valve face:

Apparently I have either lost or loaned my fine lapping compound, because I searched all over today and can't find it anywhere, so off to Napa for some more tomorrow.

I had to order a cutter for the exhaust seats, as they are a 30 degree seat, and I didn't have that particular angle/diameter cutter on hand. Hopefully it will get here tomorrow and I can finish up and then clean the parts for re-assembly.

Will keep in mind.

Found a few of these little guys, maybe 5" tall.

He was parts manager, retiring around 83-84 from heavy truck & bus facility in Dallas.

Made this shelf for a surround system and blu-ray player to sit on at the FD. Also made another drink holder stand to sit beside a recliner.

....extra 2x4 to hold it up while the stain dries.

My perk of my occupation is having shop access to work on my vehicles. Some guys can get to a shop to weld. Other guys, get to drive demo vehicles.

Getting to X-ray stuff? That's pretty cool! That would definitely be handy, in an obscure way.

What's the weirdest thing you've X-rayed?
