Has anyone ever used Speedway tiles

The reason I ask is that I ran across a CL ad that has a warehouse going out and they are selling the tiles for $1.50 each, and $1.00 for ramped sections. They sound good, but I just wondered if anyone has actually used them? I need to do something with the house garage, and I just might pull the trigger. http://speedwaytile.com/TilesList.aspx

They should be the same tile as the True Lock Diamond that companies like Garage Flooring LLC sell. We did and article about budget garage tiles and looked Speedway up. You can see the article here.

At one time I believe they were all China made? not sure? I would get a few samples to see if colors match and compare to other products as well in that -$2.00 range.

Shea.....thank you for that. I think I may just pull the trigger and get enough to do the house garage. No work goes on in there, and in the summer, it houses the wife's '64 Olds, and her '02 Solara. Other than that there is no water ran or anything like welding and such. In the winter, most of the time her Solara will be in the garage, then the JD with the snowblower on it. The sun never really hits that side of the house for very long. And the cars....straight in and straight out when they are moved. So no turning of the tires while sitting in one place

Racedeck......where they are advertised at, I can run over and look at them directly to see what they are like. And don't take it wrong, I'm not knocking RD, but just looking for something to cover up the peeling paint in the house garage. All it's for is to house two vehicles in the summer, and house 1 car and a garden tractor and snowblower in the winter. I would love to go with something top of the line, but it's not in the budget unfortunately.

:scared:

Speedway tiles are not made in China. They are made by a small company here in the USA. They used to be Raceway tiles until they were threatened with legal action.

The company, the product and the owner have an amazing story and I am really impressed with it. In fact we have them make some tiles for us.

Their tiles have 6 locks per side and hold up very well. Like anybody else they have a bad batch once in a while and in the very rare case they don't catch it internally they deal with it immediately.

You can have a look at the long term video review a customer from the forum posted here: http://www.thejunkmanadv.com/garage-shop-tour.html

I was not intending to bash any current company's product. If I am reading this correctly quote " I ran across a CL ad that has a warehouse going out " - I am guessing this is an old inventory or used product that someone is unloading for cheap. They might be great? they might not? so, my suggestion was to get samples and also compare to other -$2.00 type product out there .
I hope they are great and work out for you, if they are? that is a sweet deal!

Is this the Houston listing? I'm going to go and take a look at them and I can let you know my thoughts.

It was in our Columbus, Ohio CL, but I received an e-mail back, and the person is in Tennessee. I have the e-mail in the house. As soon as I get it, I'll post to where at in Tennessee.

Yes, I discovered that this morning. I am not happy about the deceptive craigslist posting. There was nothing to indicate that it was not a local rep selling. He offered to ship for $100 to Houston.

I received two tiles today that I requested to see how they lock together. The samples sent are diamond plate. I don't know what all colors that he has, as I have to send an e-mail. The tiles lock together tight, and from standing on them and tapping my foot, it seems like they could have that little clacky sound that some talk about, but with the way the tiles are molded, and I imagine most are like this, they have a very slight bow in them, hence when walking on them the bow goes down to contact the concrete. Not a big deal in my mind.

They appear to be rather well molded. The outer edge of the tiles are .113 in thickness, the ribs underneath are .057 in thickness, there is gaps molded in that are .080 deep x .375 wide to allow for air or water, and the complete tile itself is 1/2" thick.

I don't know if it will show up, but the diamonds are 2" center to center.

I don't know how these will compare to other tiles out there on the market. I would be interested in knowing. I am going to find out what other colors that they have in stock that they are selling. The only thing.......they are plastic, and they look like plastic. They have that certain sheen to them that plastic has. It may dull down after a period of time, which to me would look a little better, but for what it is.....it's plastic. But with that, do do my house garage, I am looking at a few thousand less than what it would cost me to have epoxy put down.

Any ways.....here are some pics.

First of all very nice job. You did a better job explaining that than most of us do on our websites.

Yes, most plastic tiles look like plastic :) and some more so than others. Generally speaking they all look much better tied together in a system than one or two at a time.

Here is a post we have had for some time that shows you the top and the bottom of various tiles, including the one you have there. I was going to attach a PDF that we got when we acquired American Garage Floor, but it is slightly to big, so here is the link

In it you will here discussion about the 'fit and finish' which is one of the biggest differences between that tile and say the MotorMat Diamond. The TrueLock diamond is very functional and it is attractive. The MotorMat Diamond is exceptionally designed and looks amazing on the floor. BUT for a garage that you are pulling in and out of and you want to spruce it up, the TrueLock Diamond (our brands name for the tile you have) is outstanding.

Swisstrax also has a gorgeous diamond tile. Its different from everyone Else's and looks great. RaceDeck has some high gloss products if you are into that.

I have to agree with Justin on your explanation and analysis. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

There are so many companies out there these days with modular flooring and everyone has a little bit something different to bring to the table. It is because of this pretty much every company is willing to send out complimentary samples. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OFFER!! If I were you, call every company and pick their brains and receive samples. This is the only true way you will feel 100% comfortable about your decision. This is an investimate at the end of the day. I have been on the other side of the conversation before and understand where you are coming from.

If we can assist in any way feel free to give us a shout. Good luck with your project and wish you the best.

If anyone is interested, and I haven't made up my mind yet, but I was sent another sample piece for some unknown reason, and it is a duller blue. It doesn't have the cheap shiny look to it, but that's beside what I did.

I took the 773 Skidsteer and parked it on a tile using the rear tire as it has the most weight on it. The skidsteer has been sitting on the tile for two days. I had to use the skidsteer this morning, so I looked at the tile. You cannot tell at all where a tire was sitting on it. No dents. no cracks, no bowing of the tile. I was impressed to say the least.

BTW....a 773 Bobcat Skidsteer weighs in at 5808 lbs. The curb weight of momma's Solara which would be parked on the tiles in the house garage is 3075 lbs., so quite a bit of difference between the two.

When I get some time later on today, I'll spill a few chemicals on it to see what happens, and take some pics. I have some hydraulic oil, some lacquer thinner, some brake cleaner, and if I have some brake fluid I'll try that also. Two of the four I can leave on for a while, but the lacquer thinner and the brake cleaner will evaporate fast. But lacquer thinner usually eats up plastic, so we'll see what happens.

And I'll do it on the shiny tile to see how it reacts with the shine.

I would not have expected a problem Parking a 773 Bobcat Skidsteer... Now maneuvering it would be the true test.

Not enough tile to try to maneuver it, but I did park the Bobcat last evening with one tire on the edge of the tile to see what would happen. I did actually expect to see the edge flattened down somewhat, but nothing happened.

I haven't had a chance to try brake fluid and such, but I'll do that tomorrow to see what happens. :dunno:

It would take quite a few to park a skidsteer on, and then pivot it back and forth to keep everything from moving. But I had to take the skidsteer back today  (I really want one) But I am impressed with the tiles. I still want to do a chemical test with oil, brake fluid and such, but I would imagine all companies are about the same when it comes to the composites that make up the tiles. I'm fairly certain I am going to order black and white tiles, as soon as I find some time to pull the cars out of the garage, then figure out how many I need of each, plus the beveled tiles at the door opening. The rest will be cut, and the cut edge against the walls.

Major thread bump here.

for the people that have used this tile, can you use a floor jack and jack stands on it?

I just ordered a sample tile from Justin....didn't think to order more than one tile!

Hey Kevin, what floor did you end up with?

I plan on doing a 10 X 14 foot shed before I commit to doing the entire shop

Thread bump, sorry! :(

Just wondering what the final outcome was on the Speedway Tile? the CL ad is still active and same pricing. If the quality is decent, then at least I have a fighting chance at convincing the better half to do this.

I'm seriously considering it. I'm only about an hour and half or so from the warehouse on the CL ad.

I bought some samples from them.. Is what shyed me away from them was the Craigslist ad for 1.50 sq ft but when I called it was 1.95$ sq ft. No less. They sell em on ebay for 1.95 as well, free shipping.

Good to know. I'll keep saving for RaceDeck.

I wonder if he got tired of dealing with shipping quotes and just increased the unit cost to build it in. He should update his CL ad to be clear.

Bump here. I just did my garage with these and very happy with the results. I had Racedeck in my last garage so that was the standard I was comparing them to. Honestly, I can't tell enough of a difference to rationalize the higher price of Racedeck. Racedeck makes a great product but these are $2.40 a tile and they are made in the USA.

I used them in my recent attached garage rehab job. The concrete floor was/is still cracked and uneven, the tiles were a less expensive option than removing the concrete and epoxy. They hide the unevenness pretty well and look good. (Terracotta and Silver)

Here's a video of the result:
