Well done Bill  A great set for under $300. I have a 58 top, 429 mid, and an MBC 5 drawer bottom. I also have a 59 top and have been looking for a reasonable priced bottom for couple years.

On a different note, though, does anyone have any idea who made this? There is no trace of a badge, nameplate, stamping, or anything that would say who it was made by. It's about 20 inches in width, and 12 inches high.

Duct Tape Man, good luck on finding the maker ! Be sure to post if you do.

See Post #5562 in this thread, I came across a very similar, if not the same box a while back. Had it posted on the other channel asking about the maker, no luck.

Heavy duty, older box for sure. Neat too !!
The middle tray on mine had tabs to hold the tools in place.

I did sell mine eventually.

Good for you Bill! Well done!:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks, all. I don't often look for specific items, but it's nice when it finally comes along. You just have to stay at it, and it'll appear when you least expect it. The 59B was actually about 250 mi away, but a business trip took me literally right by the guy's shop and he was nice enough to hold it for me a couple days.

Now that I'm no longer searching for this box, I can turn my energies to looking for the elusive "Snap-On-wrench-sets-in-a-tackle-box-for-five-bucks." :lol_hitti

Picked up a SK box at the swop meet in Springfield. There was a several other boxes there including a Herbrand top , a very vintage Snap On top and bottom along with a Very old Craftsman top and bottom. These should still be there Sunday (1/22/17).

Maybe if you leave now! I would have bought the Herbrand if I didn't already buy the SK. It was cheap enough- $25 but I couldn't see two trips to the (distant) parking lot.
It was painted brown. I'm not sure what it is supposed to be.

Picked this up today for free! The drawers need some some attention, but the patina is pretty cool.

Picked up this reasonably nice Huot on my way home from work for $20. Overall in good shape with some rust. 3 drawer model.

Being from MN, it is kind of fun to now have a box made in MN.

Just picked this up yesterday. I cannot find stamps on either box, but based on the 1958 catalog over at Collecting Snap-On, I believe the top is a KR-65A and the bottom is a KR-352, and they were sold together as the KR-357B, but I am thinking it might be a bit older.

As I understand it, Snap-On started making their own boxes in house in 1958 and stamp says "Snap On Corp" in addition to the model and year. I found another user's post who's box was a 56 and was only able to find the stamp after they started sanding. So because of this I think mine is a pre-58, made by whoever they out sourced to, possible MBC.

I think this may have been repainted at sometime, the casters have some red spray on them and some of the painting on the inside and around the drawers seems sloppy. It would also explain why the roller box drawer with the logo is in the middle and not the top. But if it was repainted, it was more than 30 years ago based on the stickers I peeled off(before I took the picture) and Craftsman grinder box lining the drawers.

Got the drawers out, thanks to another thread by Jakemac.

Need to straighten some drawers, slides, and sheet metal. I considered re-painting it, but am going to leave as is for now.

The bottom box should have a stamp on the front lower left on the frame. You have to look carefully because the paint makes it difficult to see.

I have the same setup as yours. My bottom box is date coded to 1957 and would have been paired with either the old KR56 top box with the old red and black Snap-On logo or the new KR58A like yours with the chrome script.

Well hot damn, The Horse and JF were right! It took some elbow grease and the flash light at the exact right angle and the stamps appeared, no chance of getting a picture though.

Seems like these was made in 1955. The top box's stamp is KR 56 7463 Made in USA 55, and the bottom's is KR 352 14258 Made in USA 55.

I pulled the drawers out of the bottom cab and unfortunately the lower two drawers slides are bent, so I'll have to fix that. Crumpled up in the bottom was a brochure for the "New Mack Truck C-607". Can someone explain to me how the locking mechanism on the left is supposed to work? When I flip down the bottom drawer/lid, is it supposed to push it back?

Not sure if this Gerstner is vintage, but ... I wanted it. Other than the top being funky, the box is in fairly good shape. I haven't decided how to deal with the delamination, so I'm looking for suggestions.

PF, you should be able to get new oak veneer and re-laminate the top you will have to remove the remainder of the current veneer.

Are these made by Park? I realized I have an exact duplicate that is not an SK.

PFSard: Van Dykes (on line) sells quarter sawn oak veneer which is what I believe you would want-check their web site. As outlaw said, you will need to remove the remainder of the old veneer.

Just found this on Craigslist. The want is strong with this one. I assume that isn't the original color?

Without doing initial research I would say a pre '50 Rolla-Bench. How much? Does it have the roll down front?

I messaged the guy and he said someone was coming to look at it today. I would have been all over it, but it is a decent drive and I just picked up a '55 KA stack this past Friday.

I paid 75.00 for one in similar condition last year. I did so because I wanted the tambour door for another project.

You're right to pass unless you get it for under 100. My .o2.
