Ausco D7400 Floor Jack - Fix or Scrap?

Hi, I got this jack from my dad and I'm deciding if it's able to be fixed. I found the seal kit online, so I'll rebuild it if needed, and if it's worth it. My main concern is that the one side rail is a little bent. I'm not sure if it's safe to bend it back to straight and call it good.

If it's worth fixing, I'm going to tear it all down, clean and paint.

What do you think?

You can buy a new HF low profile for $80 with a coupon. I can't see any way in the world you can turn down that deal. I've got two and they work great. In short WHY BOTHER.

Definitely rebuild it. Why buy Chinee **** when you can rebuild that fine old jack and have it work for another 15-20 years.

I could be wrong but if the hydraulics work I might just change the fluid , fix the bent part, paint and save the kit for when you really need it. Why look for trouble. But that's just me.

You only have to trust any jack when you are setting stands under neath.

I just don't like the bit where it is bent, how did this happen, overloading would be my guess.

Sounds right to me. Somebody with a press could straighten it easily. I would take it apart straighten and paint it but leave the pump alone except for paint and fresh fluid.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I would prefer a good USA jack over a Chinese one. I drained the fluid and will put new fluid in and test it out. I'll only rebuild the hydraulic system if needed. My main concern is trusting it after fixing the bend, but that is minimal after I put jack stands under it. Not sure how it bent, probably overloaded.

I'll get it tore down and put it on the press and see what I can do with it.

I assume the green is the original color? Anybody know if there were any decals or labels on it originally? I'd like to get it as close to original as possible.

It was probably used in dirt or on a hill , some way that allowed it to tip over while in use. That is very likely how it got bent, once you straighten it, it should be fine.

Are you sure? It's all rusted up. I'm not sure OP can easily rebuild it.

What's wrong with new jacks? Did you or your family member lost an arm or a leg or even killed by using one?

Yes, I was killed by a new one.

There is very little rust on it, it's mostly gunked up with grease and dirt. The rust on it is light surface rust. I enjoy rebuilding old American tools, so this will be a nice project.

I'm not against new jacks, I just prefer American tools if I can. I have $3.48 into this project so far for some jack oil. I'll be farther ahead to rebuild this than buy a new one.

Depends on what you personally like. If it is purely to use, consider a new one.

I have an older Ausco than that and was lucky to get it in perfect working condition for $2. I did a cosmetic restoration and it is great.

I needed it because I have a vintage pic of my old race car sitting on one.
I'll use it when I show the car as part of the display.
I looked ALL over and the D-7400 is a rare one to find, especially from the mid 60s.

The Ausco D-7400 was red w/white handle and lift pad when sold by Tractor Supply as Traveller 1600. Rated at 1-1/2 tons.
