The fourth overhead door went in without a hitch, almost know what I'm doing now. :headscrat

The moment I've been working towards for what seem like forever...the last piece of drywall was torn down :rocker:

All the old wiring that was removed from this building

The two southend bays completely opened back up.

Nice porcelain sign. In Belgium there's a firm that still makes 'emaille' signs on demand.

Awesome! With the full height bay I thought you might go for a high-rise overhead door. Think the tracks will get in the way?

All the doors and tracks were ordered based on the drop ceiling heights. The back bays I'm not planning on leaving full height. A new ceiling will be framed in at the height of the south wall which will put it at 9.5 ft. Only the middle bay will remain full height because more than likely a lift will go in that bay. That track will be changed. Tall ceiling don't have a lot of appeal to me, it's just more space to heat. I have 10ft ceiling in the shop at home and can't think of a single time I wished or needed them to be taller. Most everything I build is lowered, I could probably get by with 6ft overhead doors with no worries :D

Looks great in there! I don't recall if you said earlier, are you planning on opening up those windows on the south wall, or are you going to leave them as they are?

That's the difference in mindset I can't wrap my head around, lol. Almost everything I work on is lifted! :3gears:

All the windows in the back are going to be covered. The less entry points into the shop the better, also keeps unwanted wondering eyes out. I framed in the inside and insulated one last night. The top half of the one on the left will have an exhaust fan installed in it. The fan just happened to show up yesterday.

Hey Joe,

I am not sure if you have thought about the ceilings yet, but I saw a shop down south use Celetex foam board covered over in galvanized sheet. It insulated the shop well and provided some level of fire protection.

The sheet metal also helped reflect a lot of ambient light.....may be something to think about.

Love the rest room sign and the Autolite battery tending station. Now you have to find one of those Anco wiper blade cabinets too.....LOL.

Thanks

Joe, Your living my dream except I want to live in an old gas station. My wife of 30 years would just roll her eyes when I would suggest we get an old station on a small town main street to live in. But that nice little gabled front of your station would definitely get me closer to that dream. How could she refuse a little cottage.:)

I like your idea of maybe putting in a billboard, I always hoped to put one in next to my shop.

I saw a really cool idea a few years back, some folk put in an old style ground level board with the lattice and all and put a life size painted cutout of and old style cycle cop on an HD partially hidden behind the board. It looked great and amazingly real. It was similar to this one. Your place would be a ideal location for this gag.

The block dividing walls support the roof rafters. If they were removed a beam would have to be installed to support the roof structure. In my eyes its really not worth the effort simply because you would still have differences in the floor elevation between each section.

This opening is going to get two columns installed to give some needed support. The metal lintel that was added is not strong enough and is sagging in the middle.

In other work the framing crew made good progress insulating and filling in the old window opening yesterday. Two of the exterior are studded and ready to run some wiring

Demo done, congrats. Now comes the bling.

How many work hours a week do you think you're averaging on the station?

I'm there at least 5 days a week. Usually try to get 3 or 4hrs in a few evenings during the week and at least one full day over the weekend. Saturdays usually are the longest day, but a lot of times the least productive day because thats when I seem to get the most visitors.

You need a Gravely walk behind!

I have a nice Ariens deluxe 30 thrower for the house. If we get a big storm I can load it up and take into the building if necessary

A couple new pics of the south bays. I went in Sunday and roughed in the electrical (outlets, furnace power and air compressor power) and started insulating the walls

Had to make a trip out of state for a family member's funeral so I've been away from the building for a few days. I was able to finish insulating the south wall and start hanging osb on the south and west wall before I left.

That's as far as I made it before I ran out of OSB. I picked up some more last night so I'll be heading into the building shortly to finish the west wall.
One good thing about the trip back to Indiana was on the way home I was able to stop in Plymouth and see a restored Mobil station along old US 30.

The Mobil station is a nice set up. I like the old tow truck, and the flying horse on the front of the building!

Wow, someone has really done an amazing job with that Mobil station! It is much cleaner than I remember them being when I was a kid...I didn't know they were supposed to be white inside. :D

Finished hanging OSB on 2 of the 3 walls in the south bays. Also wired in all the outlets, furnace and disconnect box for the air compressor.

I noticed Northern Tool had Rapidair Maxline kits on sale for 20 dollars off and I had a 20 dollar off coupon so I went to the local store and picked up a master kit today. Normal price is $179.99 got it for $139.99. I have this system in my Morton Building and have been very happy with it. Looks good and installs very easy.

Worked on a bit of wiring up in the very front office area. Added a couple outlets in what will be my office area and added one in the station office for a porcelain ceiling light.

A few new display items. It took 3 months, but I was finally able to find some NOS Gates v-belt sleeves

Also while back in Indiana I was able to buy a 5 gallon Sinclair Extra Duty motor oil can to go along with the 5qt and 1qt I already had.

Your progress is still amazing. The office area is really getting dressed up nicely with the period correct pieces you've found so far.
When you install that air line system please show a few extra pics. I've net seen a kit like this get installed before.

Here's a few pics of the system installed in my home shop. I'll post more on the install when I install it in this building. For the money I feel its one of the nicest air systems on the market.
