That's a GREAT picture!

What is that massive chain from on the right side?

IMG_7285.JPG

The chain is one that I bought a while back. It's 30,000 pounds total weight. Each link is 65 pounds. I believe I have around 440 links of it left. Some people may call me crazy but the chain is wrought iron so I use it to forge with. I also am open to selling some of it at $1.50 per pound if interested.

I have another chain that is slightly smaller and is 135 links

Hey Fretters, CW et al, a little help here:

The ad is 1908, so it may be buried deep.

What's up with eBay sellers and Wilton bullets. Does this seller really expect someone to pay up?

Speaking of eBay...
Which one of you guys put in your BIN bid for this baby (2 1/2 inch jaws) Reed? ($100)

On the trashed bullet...
At a garage sale I might hand over 1/10 of his asking price.

Is that a good deal? What's the same vise with a swivel jaw worth?

I saw the auction before it was ended and asked myself the same question. somebody must have thought so.
"He who hesitates is lost"

Wiser mini vise collectors please chime in on 454's question.

I did a bad, bad, very bad thing on the internet today. :(
Photographs may have been involved. :scared:

Can't give details until the box shows up next week.

Speaking of eBay...
Which one of you guys put in your BIN bid for this baby (2 1/2 inch jaws) Reed? ($100)

Well, now that the cat is out of the bag ....

I warned you all that I did a bad thing.
I've been wanting a baby Reed for a long time, but every one that I bid on was lost to another bidder who wanted it more and had deeper pockets than I did. Not that I have the money now, but I was able to scrape it together for this one and pounced before someone else could grab another one from me again.

The bad, bad part is that I should be saving the money for bills at the end of the month, but I'll figure that out when the time comes. I always do. I just had one of those "must have it now" moments.

The add dated it as 1960's, but they got it wrong. It has the early bulbous nose and the 1912 and 1914 patent dates. I'm thinking its late 1920's to mid-1930's, maybe a little later. :dunno:

The vise looks ugly, but seems to be in decent shape for its age under the lousy paint job. I'll know better when it shows up next week. It's supposed to ship today. I think it will clean up ok with some elbow grease.

I'd prefer a swivel model, but I'm still excited about this one. :bounce:

We have one at work we use on a pretty regular basis, I've been meaning to share this with you guys cause it looks to be all original as far as I can tell.. We still have the original jaws in near perfect shape cause we swap out custom ones for whatever job we're doing.

Well I didn't get the big vise. It was an early ball nose Reed 208 in NICE shape. It needed some cleaning and lubrication and paint but the only physical thing wrong with it was some very small chips on the underside of the jaws. Straight handles, no welds or bigger hammer blows. Vise had a $500 bid when I got there, I went to $550, between guys on the phone and the other guy there went straight to $750 and I was out. The guy who was there had deep pockets, he had just bought the 520ish pound anvil in nice shape for $3,050. They couldn't even find the name on the anvil because of the paint on it but the buyer thought it may be a Hay-Budden.

I also didn't think to take pictures of the vise or anvil and the ones he sent me were crappy. I will try to add the later.

here's the Craigslist add http://easttexas.craigslist.org/tls/5701121321.html

http://easttexas.craigslist.org/tls/5701121321.html

Here's a few pictures from the Craigslist ad for when it disappears.

It's a small world. The guy on the phone who bought the Reed 208 was VISEs LOL! :eyecrazy:

Thanks for "fessing up". Glad it went to a good home.
If you need the $$ for any reason, I'd be more than happy to cash you out. :D

The big question, since I do my best to help vise collectors with their addiction, is whether you want those twins to become triplets?

You never know...

I do. I do. I'm ready. What do you have?

Nice purchase. I bought one of those last year,
well in November 2015. I also bought it on eBay for around $60 I believe. I ended up buying a set of soft jaws for it. I'll slightly clean it up and polish the soft jaws one day.

Awesome, thanks!
VA, check this out!
THANKS MCMLVIF100!

Take Care!

No problem. Have twice missed out on the non-swivel base version of the Dodge Slide Set -- once at an auction just up the street from our house and am still kicking myself for not bidding more, and once on local CL where I was the second caller. They are hard to find around here even though they were made within 10 miles of where I live. Someday, I hope to have one.

Strike THREE !!!

Just called about this crummy Craftsman bench. Why you might ask? See the picture labelled "Craftsman Bench - 3".

Too late again. $55 and just over an hours drive from here. UGH !

Another 7" Joins the Fold

Co-worker of mine made my week the other night. Came into my trailer with a crate at the end of shift. I asked if we received a delivery. Got a smile and a 'No, it's kind of a late Christmas present for you'. Hand made White Oak vise. Oil finish. 7-3/8" jaws. Opens 5". 1-3/8" acme screw. Leather faced jaws to protect knife blades etc. What a guy...!
