Next stage is finalizing council approval, the shed construction company is handling this and it should be done next week sometime.

I've given the go-ahead on the conduit order. Came to $500 worth of PVC and glue.

Next up is ordering the fence materials.

I'm still waiting on the quote from the plumber that visited on Friday last week. He's not answering his phone. Once I get that I will have all of the infrastructure sorted out.

Re: Steve's Aussie Shed/Workshop Build 12mx7m & 3.6m High!

Decided to test out the planned color change on my house.

Wallaby gutters, Shale Gray facia, Surfmist eaves.

I'm thinking I like the look.

Thanks I will be doing the whole lot of the house gutters and eaves to match this and the shed colors over time.

I needed to paint the new work that was just finished so I thought I'd start on that part of the house.

I've been spending my time looking for a floor solution and after discussion in the flooring sub-forum I think I've made a decision.

Ok so I have some good news for Aussies looking for a densifier/sealer solution that isn't a topical coating.

Euco Diamond Hard - It's used in big box stores such as Home Depot (USA) and Masters/Bunnings (Australia), and I found a local supplier of it.

http://www.tremco.com.au/products/euco-diamond-hard.aspx

I've spoken to them and a 20L tub is approximately $190 and will cover 85 square meters (about what I need).

The sales rep said it would have no problem resisting water/oil/coolant spills such that would be found in an automotive workshop.

She also said because its a penetrating sealer, there's no coating to damage when welding and the surface would be harder because it's a densifier as well.

The looks of the concrete is completely unaffected and she told me I would be best with a smooth troweled finish - she said not to overly burnish the finish with the helecopter trowling machine as you require some porosity left in the concrete for the sealer to soak in.

Once the concrete has cured for 20-30 days I can apply the Diamond Hard sealer and either leave it as is, or use a buffing machine to add extra sheen/shine to the surface.

Application can be done with a garden sprayer or simply poured on. Best to agitate with a broom or mechanical scrubber machine. Because my area is not a huge warehouse the broom method will work fine. She said to remove any pooled liquid on the surface before it sets by washing. Very similar to other products I've been looking into.

Hi Steve

Looking good.

Steve's (1/2 cup) suggestion of ******* it out and trying the car to see if the apron is big enough is the way to go.

Cheers
Steve
Have resolved this by adding an angle part to the apron for a better turn in. See most recent diagram.

I just saw this thread, so firstly let me say "Welcome fellow Queenslander".

What area of Brisbane are you in - although I listed my location as Brisbane, I'm actually in the Redlands (I figured that only locals would know where that was), but I work at Richlands in the south-west?

It looks like you've got it very well planned, it should be a good work space.

I do think that we now have a full quota of Steves...

And the one we've all been waiting for - the concrete guys turned up today and commenced levelling the yard. He found some buried treasure right smack bang in the middle of where the pad will be!

The slab was formed up

And we made 2 thicker sections for the 2 post car lift hoist to be located here.

They also bored out deep holes for the foundation for the shed posts

Looking good Steve mc0.
The tree next to the garden shed are you leaving it or going to remove it?
The reason I ask is that the leaves might block your cutters or the tree could fall on your new shed.

There's been much discussion around the tree, the final decision was to keep it.

It provides shade over the entire backyard from sunrise to about 11am. This is a desirable thing. The tree also shows no sign of rot/damage so it won't be falling over anytime soon.

I'm aware that gutters may get blocked but at the end of the day regular cleaning of gutters should happen and I'll just have to add it to my maintenance routine.

I will probably have to trim a few of the small lower branches off the tree to provide clearance for the shed.

Thanks mate. I think so too. Pros outweigh the cons for me.

My dad is currently watering the slab keeping it wet until I get home.

This is what happens when your dog digs up a chunk of concrete in the back yard!

As per recommendation from other threads on this forum and elsewhere on the net I plan on keeping the slab wet to cure for at least a few days - I'll see how much I can do before the missus gets anxious about how much water I'm using.

I setup a lawn sprinkler in the middle and hooked it up on a timer to run for 20min every hour. Its amazing how much water the concrete soaks up.

OHHHH!!!

I have slab envy!!!

Mine has also been formed up, and it has been raining for the last 2 weeks straight here in sydney, so no concrete pour for me!!

Interested in how that top coat of sealer looks, im thinking of doing something similar to mine.

I'm buying a 20L bucket of the Diamond Hard densifier. Note, this stuff is meant to soak in, not sit on top like a top coat.

I plan on renting a burnishing machine and running a couple of different grit pads over the surface to finish it off.

Try putting as small mound of dirt around the edge so it pools a bit, this should save a bit of water. Looking good.

I've set the garden timer to run every hour for 10mins and it seems to be keeping it nice and wet on the surface. It would take me more time than it's worth to build a dam wall around the whole slab I think.
