Youre welcome VISEs. I dont see what the problem is if the seller creates copies. Its not devalueing the original catalog,its just giving others a chance to see what was in it before the catalog disappears forever into some unknown collects safe. Copies are made all the time of valuable photos so history can be shown and appreciated by everyone. Theres all kinds of copies of our Constitution but yet these copies surely dont devalue the orginal. Its a matter of promoting history to others so everyone can learn and see it. Not just the people with heavy pocketbooks.

And then you put yourself in the position of the 2nd caller (and the seller in a compromising position) by making a higher offer? Did I misunderstand? What would you have done if he HADN'T declined your offer?

I just talked to zoomie, he hasn't seen this vise. Its his vise but here till he gets it picked up. He told me to go ahead and post up the photos of it.
I got this thing last spring at a sale. It was locked up and without handle. I got it unlocked, faired the uneven parting seams in the casting, only where it shows on the top and front. After that i used a cupped brush on a 4" grinder to remove most of the paint. The anvil had the letters rm gouged into it with gouges along both sides of it. Its been at the machine shop 6 weeks till saturday when i went over there and got him to machine it. He took .063 off the anvil and 45ed the edges. If it were mine and going to finish it i'd remove everything where the p.o. gouged off the W. Then i'd customize that side with flames and a company logo or a political statement. This could be easy done using vinyl graphics. Anyway it is what it is. The handle i included is from my 8" ridged. I do not know how well the jaws line up as i didn't put it back together since un seizing it. The jaw inserts have not been turned over but fit tight in the lands when there are. The parts you see are all i have for zoomie. While writing this up it might be best to offer this in the raw as i think 99% guys here would want to finish it themselves. oh its up to the zoom. (soon 2b minus hair)

Blue, right now there are 17---600s, and 18---800s, (NEW ONES) on EBay that different people/businesses are selling with the screws through the front face.---How could Wilton not know that they were made this way for a while?---How long have these NOS vises been setting on the shelf somewhere?
Personally, I like the screws through the back style, twice as good.
Look again VA, they are almost all photos of a 450, not a 600 or 800!

Blue, if you just type in Wilton 600 vise, and Wilton 800 vise, the first 13 or 14 that come up are 600s or 800s, respectively.
Yes but the pictures are a "stock" photo that clearly shows "450" on almost all of them. No matter what size from a 300 to a 800 Wilton uses that same 450 picture.

You can argue and debate whether copies devalue the original or not, but things would look pretty different if you were the buyer. Just think...you spend $400 on a rare catalog and a week later copies of that same catalog start popping up for $25. Think you wouldn't be at least a little bit upset with the seller at that point? ALL: so did one of the GJ members on this thread buy the catalog for $400? let's wait and hear what he might have to say. i'm not really a collector per se, but when you buy as much old **** as i do you fall into a sort of man that's too nice to sell stuff now and then.
i bet the collector (if that's who bought it) couldn't get a rat's you know what if copies were made if it doesn't damage his original. i wouldn't pay that much for a Catalog (at least i say that now), but if it were mine and i had the ORIGINAL and could keep it in my possession that's good enough for me. the VERSA vise copies I think go for $50 on Harbor Freight so does that mean a guy spending $100 or $250 cares? i own two Versa vises and i'm trying to buy a 3rd one and paying a lot more than $50 for each one of them.
WRENCH: i thought you mentioned ZOOMIE was going to pay shipping to you so the vise would be in his hands to have the new CHARITY BUYER pay the shipping to their home. or does Zoomie live close enough to you to pick it up in person and i mis understood? in any case i think what Zoomie and you are doing is AWESOME and i hope the CHARITY gets a good check.

Zoomie: good chance that book is over 100 years old so probably author has been gone for over 70 years, but good to know the rules if that is what the rules are.

The 6" Columbian hundred pound #606 just went for $151.99. Sounds like a good deal to me (if you're close enough to LaSalle to get it at a reasonable cost)
Did someone here get it? Maybe the lack of replies to my earlier post means nobody's interested in a mere Columbian - or holding cards close to vest?

I think the important thing to note is that most of us are just seeking the knowledge within the catalog. We want to learn more about this mysterious vise that we would all love to find one day.

I joined a charity, The St. Baldrick's Foundation. It is a charity that spends their money on children with cancer.
Basically you take donations to shave your head.
I made a post to THE VISES OF GARAGE JOURNAL, specifically. I love this entire website, but this is where I spend my time. I stated that if it was inappropriate, I would remove it immediately. The guys on here didn't say a damn thing, in fact their donations started pouring in so fast, am absolutely humbled. I hope, I made sure to thank every member, I hope I did, if not, I apologize, there's been so many, THANK YOU!
WRENCHGUY, who has already gone above and beyond, has absolutely outdone himself, and donated a WILTON 800 to The St. Baldrick's cause. I am picking it up from him Wednesday, and I am going to list it on eBay and see how we do...
This has been a tough one for me to wright guys, I like to make silly comments and have fun, you guys and WRENCHGUY, have made me , awe ****, Ill say it, CRY, LOL!
I remember the first vise I bought, came here and haven't missed a day...

You are correct Blue.---However If you look at the 800s offered by Northern Tool + Equipment, although their showing a 450, the advertised weight is 238 lbs.---The 800s with the screws through the back are 220 lbs., and that is with a swivel base.
One might email Wilton and just ask them what the current weight of their 800s with the screws in the back is, and if it is 238 lbs. then they have increased the size by 18 lbs. over the vintage 800s with the screw in the back.

as a favor to me years back u did me a favor picking up my 2nd vise for my collecting habit. u held it for months till i got there to zoo town. it was a super nice athol 624 that was on c-list. i don't forget. i haven't missed a day either. cya soon.
