Does your store sell a lot of pot growing supplies (aside from the Black Magic stuff, lol)?

Under a half hour I was at my local HD store just to find out in the twin cities the last 6 in the area had been bought and on hold for pickup.

How does the saying go..."SD affect" or something like that....?!

Which store did you stop at? The SLP store was the only one in the Twin Cities down to $75.03 a couple weeks ago and raised the price back to $225.06 after 3 days. Most have now gone up to $299. I saw the lowers for $280 somewhere in the past week. PM if you want me to dig through pics for the exact store.

If your store has office supplies, they are down to 75% off. It actually happened last week, but the MET team cleared the bay today/yesterday & brought the remaining up front

Well I found my first penny deal and I wasn't even looking for any deals. My Home Depot had Reese trailer balls on clearance and I thought I would pick up a 2" for $4.04, but when I went to check out it rang up a penny! The cashier said "It is my first day and I don't want to get fired my first day on the job" so he calls over the manager and ends up selling it to me for the clearance price on the sticker of $4.04. I didn't complain since I was happy at the price at $4.04. My receipt shows it is item # 0000-923-680

I still think however, I should have been able to purchase it for a penny since that is what it rang up as. Has this happened to anyone else? Check your Home Depot! They are probably a penny!

Depends on how much a fuss you want to make. Corporate policy is if you find it, you can buy it for a penny (or they just give it to you). Some stores don't care, some will only sell it to you at last clearance price, some refuse to sell at all. Me personally, not worth making a stink over unless it's a high-dollar item.

I usually walk around the lighting area that's right in front of self-checkout and wait for the attendant to help some old person check out, then I swoop in, ring my stuff up, shove a coin in the machine and go.

One time (just once, though) I used SCO for a penny item. A couple guys I work with were with me at the store and they claimed the SCO workers kiosk thing alerted the worker of the item. She came over and voided out my transaction and started a convo with the garden guy (it was a chainsaw for a penny) and head cashier.

I didnt want to argue so I kinda just left :) told them I needed to look at something else while they were figuring out what to do.

The attendent's kisosk at our SCO area just has a split-screen for the 4 self checkout terminals. As you ring stuff up it shows on their screen too. Usually they just glance at it when you first start to checkout. That's why sometimes I try to buy something else too and ring that up first.

I didn't know that. When I bought those three pass-thru sockets for .01 I did also have other things I ran through first.

I price-checked one before though, and then went back into the store to grab everything else & returned later to purchase.

Does a price check also show on their screen?

She wasnt actually right in front of the screen, I wait until they are busy with another customer or perhaps talking to one of my friends from work while Im ringing stuff up ;)

Friend claimed the screen started flashing and that drew her attention. I havent gotten a penny item there since then so I dont know if he was bustin my balls, if it was true or if its since been changed to not do that. I had previously gotten a few penny items there using SCO without any issue.

I would have at least held on to it. Don't let them take the item, that shifts power. Just keep it in your possession until it's worked out. You're not shoplifting or doing anything wrong as long as you're still in the store.

Were you willing to pay the .02/.03 for the chainsaw? That's always a great compromise.

Nah, didnt really need it.

They had a point, it was pulled out of overhead. I know that's technically a gray area of if its saleable or not. But the darn thing was sitting in overhead for like 6 months.
Garden employee came over and claimed it was manufacturer recalled and not for sale (really? why was it sitting in overhead so long, then).

Since I didnt actually need it I just played dumb. Didn't want to burn any bridges because Ive had good luck at that store with many items and the head cashier is a nice person (she basically wanted someones head when I was told I physically needed to bring in an item to get re-rung with a different form of payment).

Nope. Corporate doesn't care at all and will not do a thing to help you, so don't call corporate to complain.

Stores have various policies and handle it different ways. It also really doesn't matter what the dollar value is and how much you complain, they will almost definitely stay with their policy, whatever it is.

They are also much more likely to give you the item or give it to you for last clearance if it's a lower dollar something that doesn't have value to the store. If it's something expensive, they won't want to give it to you or sell for .01, and it's only 50/50 they'd sell it for .03

they were messing with you. It only shows the amounts, I think it may show clearance items highlighted in yellow and 01 would be in that category.

Think about it. If IT wanted to block .01's, they could lock the screen of the register and 'see attendant' pop up. Why would they do a flashing screen as an IT fix when they could do something that would definitely stop the sale.

I figured but it was interesting that she peeled off her convo with them and beelined to the kiosk monitor.

The only thing I did differently than normal was not using the price check/add to transaction process. I went and scanned it like I do normal items.

According to this .01's are fair game.

That said, I realize HD cust svc is like the DMV: you get a different answer from each person

I don't know, I doubt it...

Like I said before, some stores don't care... I literally rang up 75 individual pieces of the sockets & ratchets that pennied... Several employees around the SCO area helping and doing other stuff, I know they had to have seen my screen and such... Would have been nice if they just let me have them as I think I had to scan almost every piece twice because the scanner wasn't working too well...

$99 Dewalt tool box (042-427). Didnt get a price tag, but receipt attached. $249 online. $149 in store, NLP $99.Tried to haggle with them too on the base, but still had a few in stock. Base was $299, NLP from $349

Would like the base, has a big bottom drawer, would be great for my Router collection.

I posted that a few weeks back. Wish I had picked up another now. Could keep me from rinsing if i just keep my 2 favorite chemicals in each one, and use my 1 gallon for the weird stuff

Am I the only one that looks at this threads, then goes into an HD a day or two later, spends several minutes trying to find ONE deal like any of the ones posted here and finds nothing even close?

I've never seen any crazy deals like what gets posted here....

Have I seen clearance items with great prices? Yes, but it's mostly garbage to start with.

So I am new to garage journal, but I found several good deals as a result of this forum. The best deals so far... was a 22ft Werner ladder for 30, my 300lb ladder was 169, also a Milwaukee tool chest for 349 regular 698. I have got smaller deals as well, bit holders and magnets. I am also building a garage, what brought me here, I also don't buy it all, I get what I need, don't have time or want the hassle of trying to resell, plus there may be other people like me on here that are close enough to my stores. I do wish I had gotten2 of those toolboxes, but oh well I did get one. I have talked to the store asst Mgr and he told me that if he saw 1 cent items he took and donated them, obviously some stores don't, in talking w a few long time employee there is a date on clearance merchandise and it drops every 30 days, they showed me the date in the sticker. I don't typically buy garbage, my wife says I usually buy the best. There are deals but it is definitely a chase and sometimes you get lucky!!

Unfortunately that's mostly your problem. You have to be right on top of this stuff, usually there the morning it drops. It's easiest for people who are self-employed or consider this their "job."

You also have to know where in the store stuff is, particularly in the overhead. And it's not always directly above the merchandise where it would be stocked on the floor.

Sure every once in awhile you find a morsel left on a shelf or in the overhead, but for the most part if you're not there within hours of the new price chances are it's gone. And it's not just SDer's, the employees are on top of this stuff. I was listening to some employees talk today about the "tyle sawz at $25 and the Milwaukee bx at $50."
