That 4 in 1 is either an Enderes or a Four in One made in Jamestown NY.

Thanks Jeff! I was hoping you would chime in on that one. Now if I only knew what the heck Hoppy's Outing was.

Boy, I had a fun find today. You guys won't believe what was stashed away and how, because I still don't believe it. I took some pictures from the sale to show what I mean.

Today was kind of a bust...

Found a box of screws, a made in USA chalk line, and a made in USA 1/4" drive cman ratchet... $1 each...

Oh, also found an old Sears compressor & pump free on CL. The tank rusted out and the guy had it in his garage for a year but eventually just bought a HF compressor and wanted to get this out of his way. There is a GJ member looking for a pump so I figured this might help him out.

Went to two sales this morning.
The first started at 10a, but I got there 90min early to try to get a good number. I ended up with #8. Behind a couple of other tool guys. Somehow, I was #2 down the cellar stairs. At the bottom, everyone else went left, I went right. For a change, I guessed right this time. There were 3 "rooms" with tools, 2 small and one large. I got into the large room first. I didn't see any sockets or wrench sets (they may be in the garage that will be on sale next month), but there was still plenty of stuff to dig through. The spaces were tight, and the house was packed. I passed on a 1/3hp Block Grinder for $30, already have 6. There was a really well cared for 1949 CHRYSTLER WINDSOR SEDAN w/suicide doors, I was afraid to ask the price. It took me 40min just to get checked out so I could leave.

The garage and 2 sheds will be opened next month, once the snow melts enough for crowds to get to them safely. Unfortunately, it will be another Friday sale and since it won't be school vacation, I won't be able to get there early. I'll have to sift through the tailings.

I ended up paying $50 for my haul, but it was worth it

Pic 1 :
Eagle #906-FL 6gal oily waste container (a smaller model than the 10gal I picked up last year, but in better condition)
(the other tool guys were miffed that I got to it first :bounce:)

Pic 2 - the rest :
4pcs black walnut boards
Foredom Electric Co. foot speed switch (might be a converted sewing machine switch)
unknown dual 3/8dr+1/2dr ratchet (faint imprint on handle says "American") (binds up when faceplate screws are tightened)
hammer handle
Craftsman magnetic pad
unknown (looks handmade) cross-pien hammer/chisel thing (Pic 3)
H.D. Smith "Perfect Handle" (Pic 4) :D
-----------Pickle Fork
-----------2 - Tire Spoons (1 wooden handle in bad shape)
2 - Craftsman (Crowntop) #9-27501 1/2"bore bronze bearing pillow blocks (in original boxes) (Pic 5)
Diamond Calk [sic] Horse Shoe Co. 4" adj. wrench

The second sale started at 9a. I got there at 11:20a. It was at a townhouse development, so I wasn't all that hopeful. I was mostly right. There was only one thing I was interested in. They wanted $20, but agreed to $15.

Pics 6&7 :
a heavy steel Ammunition Crate (15"W x 12"D x 14-1/2"H)
(the clasps are loose and will need to be tweaked for a tight fit)

$50 isn't bad, I'd offer $30 or $35 and see where you end up.
Cleaned up, you're talking roughly $20-$25 for the snappy rat and $15-$20 for each SK rat.
The other pieces are bonus.
If you really want them, play nice.
If you don't care, then play hard.

The roto ratchet depending on condition could be worth decent coin ($50-$75 on eBay)... It's a SK 43875 Roto Head... However they all look kind of rusty. Wrenches look in better shape... Somewhere between $30-$40 I would be happy with the deal... $20-$25 I would really happy... ;)

Here's a couple of things I picked up today-an S-K 1/4" socket set, and a Craftsman set of threading dies, all made in USA. The S-K set is missing some items, I have to look at the list on the label, and see what they are.

jake, do you think that the gear on the dual anvil ratchet would fit a Proto 5249? I need to find a replacement gear for a Vogel I found not long ago and that would at least point me in the right direction.

Stopped at a pawn today for shits and giggles. Their prices in the past have been outta site, so today I picked out a Proto 3/8 dr 7/32 hex bit and a 3/8 Proto universal.
$5 for the hex bit & $10 for the universal. No sale. Could be the reason their bins are overflowing.

Got to an Estate sale on second day. Missed most of the good stuff yesterday. But I did get 4 Craftsman corner clamps, a pair of tweezers, coping saw, hacksaw, unopened patternmaker, couple bolt sizers, and a pressure washer all for $20. Gonna be cold tomorrow gotta wait and see if there's any good sales.

I had the day off today, so I went to two estate sales. First one had few tools to speak of, but I managed to pick up a couple of brushes for a few bucks. Got to the second one around 11:00, should have gone there first. Paid $10 for the drill bit set. They are marked USA and HS and many are unused. The label on the box is long gone, I wonder who made them. The 3M dust mask, 6in Wilton and 4in Armstrong C clamps, paint brush, small file and steel block were another $10.

Yea, I was excited to find them. I was aware of the screwdrivers, but didn't know they came in other flavors. The pickle fork is in excellent condition. They were right on top of the electronics bench and at least 10 other people left them behind. As soon as I saw them, ZIP ! ........ Into my bag they disappeared. I almost dropped the rag can I was holding on my foot fumbling with the bag.

Jake I've never seen a perfect handle on a tire iron or pickle fork! Very cool!

I've been half down with the flu for a week, (worked from home all week so I wouldn't get anyone else sick) and I'm still fighting it, so maybe its a good thing no sales look good...

Glad to see others are doing well at our craft!

I'm surprised you've never seen them before. I was actually thinking of you when I grabbed them and was certain that you would fill me in.

The thing that really hit me about them is that they're not just the perfect handle style, they actually have "Perfect Handle" cast in next to the HD Smith name. It blew my mind.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Can't wait to see what you dig up next.

Swung by an Estate sale, not much in the way of good tools, but manage to pick the following:

Plomb and Proto drivers and a Herbrand speeder. Also picked up some targets and a book. $6 altogether.

Hooo boy, Jake: well done! I eyeballed that ad's pictures long and hard, but in the end had to take myself to work rather than the sale. One day, retirement from my day job will allow me to "un"retire from sale-ing.

Walked across the street to the neighbor's garage & yard sale. He's a P.E. so what's on sale is better quality.

Century USA slip joint pliers
Honda 21 mm-23 mm box wrench I have a 305 SUPERHAWK this will go to.
Small crescent style wrench USA by JH Williams
Channelock needle nose pliers, perfect cutting jaws and non-tweaked needle nose

All for 4 bucks.

I'll get some soon, I am in the house since the wife is very sick with sore throat and aching body pains. Me and the 2 yr old is hanging out for the day. Cold outside so my little one don't need to be out there either.

Here some other pictures, including the craftsman grinder. Just missing one tool rest, and the cord needs to be replaced after I derust it all. Oh I ended up giving $24 for it all so not a bad deal I thought.

Edit I'm blind cause both tool rests are there!

Armchair Yardsailing today, well technically last Friday/Saturday, but it got here today:

A Coleman Peak 1 Backpackers lantern, (dated 1-85, so 32 years old) with 2 spare globes and 14 unburned mantles, including the three in the little blue plastic screw top jar.

So I have the Frankenstien 222 (See my camping gear thread) with a 32 oz fount, this one, and a 229 dual fuel. These small founts only hold 12 oz...

Estate & Garage sales were a bust...

Stopped by a pawn shop heading home, found a few CMan bits in the misc bucket. But then spotted this little early Y2K USA jewel in the glass cabinet. Only a couple sockets look like they ever used, and maybe only once or twice at that. I like these little sets you can grab and go with...

Sears still sells this model number, albiet with china pieces now.

Was able to hit two sales today. One was a bust but I did pretty good for $9 at the other.
Also was able to spend time with a picking buddy, had breakfast and all in all a good morning.

Still trying to decide it this chair can fit in with the wife:
051.jpg

I can make room for it but she'd rather it go in the basement, but I think it's way too heavy and cumbersome to get down the stairs.

Beautiful SK sets, madison069 and jeeper46. I'm a sucker for anything SK.

I did quite terrible this weekend and spent more time on the road than at the sales I went to. Pictures 1 - 4 are what I got in terms of good things. Snap-on, Indestro, Easco, and SK for cheap. Thorsen, Craftsman, and Proto was not as big of a bargain. Picture 5 is what was zip-tied to the nicer wrenches. Picture 6 is a comparison of a Pittsburgh (India), Gedore (India), and unmarked Chinese combo wrench.

The Thorsen, Proto, and Craftsman cost me more per wrench than the previously mentioned brands. They are doing this thing at some sales where they zip-tie wrenches of a roughly similar physical size together and put a price on them. The fifth picture (minus the adjustable wrench) is what came with the Thorsen, Proto, and Craftsman. Other zip-tied wrenches there were both metric and SAE on the same loop.

Another thing some estate sales are doing is bagging wrenches together just based on whatever fits in the bag. You can have 25 wrenches in one bag and 25 in another and see that you'd have to buy both bags to complete a set. Mixed in those bags is all kinds of Gedore, Globemaster, and Pittsburgh stuff marked up above retail. Originally I had thought this was to stop people from breaking up sets, but them mixing up the sets themselves shows it's half to get more money for Indian/Sri Lankan tools and half to prevent theft.

It is annoying because the photos they put up show things before they've bundled them. I have learned what estate sale companies to avoid. Thankfully plenty of sellers still know that the hunt for things is the best part.

Local guy wants 50 bucks for this. What's a good price?
1 snap on ratchet, 2 SK ratchets
SK wrenches believe some are missing
3 snap on sockets

Don't know any further info

Met up today, got it all for 30 bucks. The wrenches look brand new but a few are missing. The snap on ratchet is a little sticky. The SK roto ratchet is dirty but otherwise great. The other SK ratchet is a little rusty but it works. The sockets are snap on in usable condition. Overall I'm happy

Anyway I can date these?
