I've been a member for at least a couple years, but somehow this is my first post. I've owned a 1920's craftsman home for 6 years, and one of my favorite features is the almost 4 car garage with loft. Its a little cluttered in the photos, I'm a father of two toddlers so I have time to wrench or clean.. not both.

I'm a little sketchy on the history, but I think the original garage was added on to, but the original door still functions inside. The 1970's addon features cement walls, which is great insulation. The upstairs has terrible insulation, but the second floor is pretty well insulated from the first.

Its detached, but has a wall mounted propane heater which will get the first floor to 50 degrees when its 20 outside.

I'm about to buy some Clopay Gallery wood grain doors with upper windows, and am enjoying the advice from all the existing threads. The current doors are rotted, most likely from the original 70's construction. My original Craftsman openers are still both going strong!

Welcome to the forum from S.E. Wisconsin.

I see you have snow on the ground. Our snow has all melted, but we are supposed to get some snow tomorrow. Not sure just how much snowfall here locally, maybe an inch or so, but in any case it is supposed to be up in the 60's on the weekend so even if we got a whole lot more than that it would be gone by the end of the weekend.

Thanks! I just updated my location, I'm in NE Iowa. Love this site, and its going to be the inspiration for my garage remodel.

I've decluttered since taking the photos, sold the Jeep (which is the main source of grease and random bits floating around.

Nice shop. Lots of room in there for fun stuff. What do you use the loft for?

The loft is just for storage. Its a half story.. I usually smack my head on the rafters so I dont spend too much time up there. Great for clearing up the first floor though. I keep my rider and push mower up there in the summer since its got a walk out barn door to my hillside.

I'm in awe of what I see on this site. I dont have the budget for some of the museum like garages I see on this site, and need to strike a balance between esthetics and functionality, especially with kids. I definitely need to declutter and simplify though. Feeling very inspired.

I've always wanted old school glass firehouse doors, but I dont think they would match my architecture in the least. Getting Clopay Gallery Ultra Grain doors installed next week.

Your garage is great. The thing that caught my eye were the garage doors. Was wondering where you got them until reading that they needed upgrading. I have Clopay garage doors on my house probably similar to what you are looking for. My original supplier doesn't stock Clopay anymore. Noticed Home Depot carries them but the lower end units. If you get Clopay you might be able to match your man doors in same material/style.
My garage has been framed and a torch on roof hopefully it will resemble an old Texaco station. That is why the existing garage doors caught my eye.
Good luck on your projects!
