How does the QR work on that SQ6?

99: turn counter clockwise a partial turn, pull vise out to the width you need, then turn clockwise and start tightening. pretty slick and works great. one hard thing i'm still trying to figure out is how to clean up with the closed end on the slide, but i'm sure it is just a matter of having some time to look at it if i want to find a spot on one of my benches to mount it on.

Records are a real pain to take apart. Have to drive out the pin holding the nut in place, remove the pin holding the spring that joint the screw and dynamic jaw, unscrew it all the way, and everything kinda falls out at once. Taking it apart is easy enough, putting it back together needs at least 3 hands

Speaking of blacksmith vises, I've got a very ornate one still with serrations on the jaws in storage. About a 4", absolutely spectacular

I've got my big peter wright already, so I'm not super attached to this one. I'd part with it for the right Wilton

i'm looking for a very cool 6 inch or probably an 8 inch Blacksmith vise and really in no hurry. of course you can email me pictures of your little one just to show me that size isn't always the best options. or just post pictures here of the 4 incher so we all can see what it looks like.

Here's the post vise for anyone interested. Don't believe I've posted this one before. The third of the lot I picked up a while back.
Found a few markings on it "F&W st Paul works" is stamped on each side, and "solid box" is stamped on the top of the nut. Serrations on the jaws are nice, closes tight, nice and smooth to turn. In by far the best shape of the lot. It'd clean up real good, had an easy life. Apart from an easily removable spot of brazing holding the two wedges together, it's hard to find anything wrong

Most folks seem to use Rustoleum Hammered Verde Green for newer Wiltons and Hammerd Light Blue for the older models, but neither is really correct for your vise. There is actually a thread on the topic that has more info, but here's the short version.

Your appears to be a late 1960s to early 1960s 9450/101033 that would have originally been a blue/green/gray color that is really hard to describe, and very hard to match.

I found a 12/30/1968 vintage 9450 with the original paint and stickers that should give you an idea. I've yet to see anyone match this color.




The base looks totally unfaded, and it was in a climate controlled basement shop likely since new.

I can't make out what it says, but looks like something wriiten on the side. Definitely old with the screw through the bench swivel, early 1900's or earlier. It's an exposed utility type vise, not worth $85 unless if it is like 6" or bigger (like a big old Lewis, but doesn't look like one)

I've seen that swivel system on early reeds. Mind you it was probably common to a lot of vises of that era

Picked my new to me Columbian Vise today. Big shoutout and thank you to MarkinIndiana. He treated me right and gave me some great tips. It was a pleasure meeting and talking with him.

I cant wait to get it mounted and use it.

I can't tell even magged up. but it is a swivel jaw, and I strongly doubt 8" jaws, he's probably meaning opening (common error). I would guess 6 maybe 7"

How much is he asking? if the price i right, and no damage/welding on it go for it.

To this untrained eye it looks like a Franken/MadMax vise of a cast dynamic with a modified collar, and a steel plate welded static of some sort, with the original static jaw tower somehow incorporated. But I am also looking at this on a tiny phone

Nice vise! Send Autopts a note with a picture, and description of the bottom of the vise. There were two different style bases used as I recall...one with, and one without a center pin. So, it largely depends on whether yours has a hole for the center pin.

Parker original color

After taking this parker 973-1/2 apart, I've convinced myself it has original paint on it.
I am making a stand for it and would like to match the paint on it.
I went to the paint store and after trying for 30 minutes to match it, they said they could not.
Does anyone have a paint number for this dark blue color?
