Its pretty sturdy, looks like an exact copy? Read "made out of nylon"...? its not thick, Funny thing was, the email mentioned "husqvarnia/sears replacement parts" so maybe they are reproducing these from the original mods for sears? But for $4 and change plus shipping IMHO, their golden, wish I could get the inner heat shields too :(

I did some research and and Allegretti/Paramount , who made the block grinders, was bought by Poulan. Poulan was bought by Swedish conglamerate, Electrolux, who also owned Husqvarna. Electrolux spun off Husqvarna and Poulan as a separate company. So actually you could say it is not a copy but produced by the successor company. That replacement part number is valid where Husqvarna or Poulan outdoor equipment is sold. It also shows up for other brands, Red Max, Dixon, Electrolux and Roper so it is not just Sears that is selling it. I was not able to find out where any of those other brands used the shade.

Good bit of research! I wondered what the tie-in with Husqvarna was.

Craftsman made wasp nest? Lol so took the calipers to the original power cord to a block 1/3 HP and the power cord to the one I got off Amazon. As you can see there is a little bit of a difference in sizes. The smaller is the OEM power cord

I found some round strain reliefs that might work for the new larger cord. The page gives the 'hole dia.', I don't see where the cord dia. is specified. Perhaps a call to their tech support can lend some light on the situation.

Maybe Hillman can answer where their rubber feet/grommets are now.

Nice find on the grommets. I'll give them a shout and see where I can get them.

So took the right side cover off and found this. Bearing spring installed backwards, blueish burnt color and looks like it was oiled. See the markings in the bearing housing in the cover.. are the bearing springs replaceable? Is this one shot?

IMHO, the issue is; I ordered the wrong gauge wire thinking BIGGER is always better, on the original cords it clearly says 18 gauge but like an idiot I ordered a 14 gauge replacement, cause more is better right,
I can find a home for the 14 gauge wire I bought and will likely just order a few 18 gauge 6ft wires, last I looked they were like $6 from partsexpress.com. plus shipping, as always YMMV.

I'll make my replies in Red, so our friends can see them on their hand-held devices. :)

Sorry, I should clarify that Hillman once made them and they were available at Lowes. The Hillman pn 884633 now looks like a grommet used on a sheet metal chassis.

So took the right side (the picture shows cooling fins, which are on the LH side, as viewed from the front of the grinder) cover off and found this. Bearing spring installed backwards, blueish burnt color and looks like it was oiled. (Yup, ears should point towards bearing) See the markings in the bearing housing in the cover (Yup, those are not fatal IMO. I'd take a small 3M bristle type disk and lightly smooth the face, being very careful not to make the bore any larger or the bearing will spin) .. are the bearing springs replaceable? (Yup, see the link below) Is this one shot? (I'm not sure. I'd compare it to the other side for tension, flexibility, etc ...)

http://bauersprings.com/ball_bearing_disc_springs.html

Good luck, keep us up-to-date.

@torqueman, man you never stop amazing me, seriously with the amount of info you have.. love it.. And yes I miss spoke about being the "right cover". But with it all being installed wrong makes sense why the shaft wouldn't spin without a little help.. bearings are shot also so need to replace them. I am assuming the information on bearings in page one of this thread are still relevant?

You can order those directly off the lowes website, I cleaned the one by me out of the 3 they had on hand, I may :p have extras on order, it was $5 shipping if I ordered 8 or "several",
When I punch in the Lowe's number: 423532, it comes back as the Hillman's Part # 884633; but it looks like just a plain grommet.

I meant to say, the oil was probably the bearing grease that melted when the bearing got over heated from the backward spring-washer.

I've found that:
1/2" arbor Blocks use this size - 15 mm Bore ID, 35 mm OD, 11 mm Width
ie: NTN Bearing 6202Z Single Row Deep Groove Radial Ball Bearing, Normal Clearance, Steel Cage, Single Shielded

and

3/4" arbor Blocks use this size - 17 mm Bore ID, 40 mm OD, 12 mm Width
ie: NTN Bearing 6203ZZC3 Single Row Deep Groove Radial Ball Bearing, C3 Clearance, Steel Cage

:)

Right on. :rocker: I was just going to start checking the measurements on these. I also saw on mine the stamped number 7503. Which I know is the bearing number.

I was going to order the grommets off Lowe's right now as well. I'll keep you updated as if they are the same or not..

There is an auction later today, kind of up in the air if I want to go. Lots of old CMan tools... But what caught my eye was this block... Anyone care to take a guess as to size / HP?

Yes. She went and picked it up today and will be out to me tomorrow. Plan on cleaning it up, repaint and flip. Hoping to find a round top 1/2 HP. Hard to find, for me anyway. All the ones on eBay are already fixed up and want to much or want to much for as is..

I've seen that style switch on 1/2, 3/4, and 1-HP Blocks. It's hard to say but I'm thinking 3/4-HP, because the wheel size does look like 8" and the grinder has the quench tray, not the HD base that I've seen on most/all? the 1-HP Blocks.

Uh-oh. :willy_nil

Was just a 1/2 HP, but I dug around (after taking the picture) and I found the missing side cover plate & put it on, along with the two plastic eye shields..

Things were going reasonably cheap at that auction, but of course there was that ONE other person (younger kid) that wanted the grinder too... At $65 I let him have it. The base was just a homemade tire rim. The grinder was in really good shape though, I hope he puts it to good use.
