They're brake tools. For replacing drum brake springs and adjusting them.
Sorry, I misread it. The tray thing is to get in your way when you try to use that drawer. At least, that's what mine does.
It is not hinged and doesn't lock. It just lays there and can be picked up and removed.
i haven't used one of those writing surfaces since ever. Even when i had a top / bottom combo, i just used the workbench. I take it out when i get a new box and store it somewhere.
I also do have an old kr series top chest at home that has a small separately locking compartment where you might throw a wallet / keys.

kr 637?
Yes writing surface. Almost every box I have bought that has one, that drawer is used for storing paper work, tool receipts and misc small parts we all tend to collect after a job is over. I see lots of fuse, hardware and sensors in those drawers.
As far as the older boxes that had a locking compartment, I have heard them referred to as stash drawers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,though i have no idea of what that means![]()

If you're trying to convey what's wrong with a car on a work order, your pen is your most important tool. And you need a place to use it.
And your stash is your supply of weed, man.![]()
