I read through the settlement. Looks like the attorneys could get about ten million for their part. Not too shabby for some unknown little firm, in No-where-ville, Ohio.
So... who's really winning here? I can't see lots of time and money spent on a building a case where everyone listed has to do all the legwork of finding, categorizing and submitting the receipts.
Some have asked the question, so here's my understanding of the answer.
Any money remaining in the settlement ($30,000,000/thirty million) after all claims are paid, will be redistributed to those who were able to produce the receipts that stated, "you saved $***". So some guys MAY be receiving a second round of payments. MAYBE... if there's some left over.
It appears this has already been settled, and the money will be divvied out. If you don't submit your info, that money will just go to someone else, who already has. Apparently, you could get as much as $20 bucks back (or less), on every $100 spent.
Regarding the discussion of the average adult reading at an eighth grade level... that's pretty accurate. Unfortunately, I know many people like this. And I frequently ask myself, "How the hell do they make it through life?". Well, barely. That's how. There's probably someone, reading this right now, and has no real comprehension of what I'm typing. Just a week ago, I had a neighborhood kid helping with some yard work. We were talking, and I had the feeling that he seemed unsure what the word "comprehension" meant. So I came right and asked him... and he finally confessed that he didn't know what it meant. This kid has been through twelve years of schooling (K-11), and does not know what "comprehend" means. How the hell does that happen? And this kid will be a senior in high school, later this month. WTF?
I know, I know. All of us here, know that those "compare to" prices aren't real, but I can easily see where some would be totally confused by that. Would they think they fell into the deal of the century, if they saw a banner that says "Everything must go!"? Hell, I'd like to think that no one is that slow, but it's surely possible. Have you overheard any of the conversations in Harbor Freight? I have, and it makes me shake my head sometimes, in disbelief. There's some pretty slow adults out there, folks. And guess what... they all have kids. And who do you think is raising them? Yep. Them same slow adults. Pretty damn scarey, actually.
Anyways, I'm not saying that this justifies a damn lawsuit, but I am saying there's some folks out there (way more than most of us are even aware), that are a lot like those free HF flashlights... not very bright.
