??? What do mean by "removed"? It's for sale on ebay.
The link you posted when I clicked it, it says

"this listing (272116650272) has been removed, or this item is not available.
    • Please check that you've entered the correct item number
    • Listings that have ended 90 or more days ago will not be available for viewing."

but after M George posted the other link I see those too, yes those will work. Another good source. Thanks gents.

I just tried my link and it worked fine---went right into my cart.

M George link is ok as well, but more costly with shipping.

Thanks Torqueman, I pickup the new wheels I ordered tomorrow and anxious to put my 1/2 horse to work. And yes, started reading this thread two weeks ago and already have two or them.

I saw a Craftsman Grinder for sale at a pawn shop yesterday and was thinking about buying it but wanted to find more information. The grinder looked exactly like the one pictured here on the right (Post #456). It had the glass shields in tact and a grinder on one side with a wire brush on the other.

I do not remember the specs or model number but the label was black not red. Does that signify anything? Looking online for an example.

Take a look at post #1 above for help 'IDing' a Block grinder.

Also, post #4 has a link to many Block grinder labels.

Let us know what you find that matches what you saw, if anything.

The answer will have more fidelity, with more information. HP & model number, pictures - if possible.

Labels are done from my supplier and I have to say he knocked it out of the park again. Just has to round the corners. Can't wait to get these one.

Just picked this up - Looking for info on it. Is the base & tool rest correct? What size wheels would this have come with?
I don't collect these, but hadn't seen a 3/4hp in the wild before. Figured I should bring it home.

Now that is a model number I haven't seen before.

There are several 397.19670 round top Blocks with HD bases (like yours), but they have the 'brass' colored metal machine tag/label with rivets.

Yours is the foil stick on label.

My swag is the HD base on yours is correct, because the quench tray knock-out on the center band is intact.

The RH tool rest top is, of course, an add-on and not OEM. The slot makes me believe the PO ran a cut-off wheel there at one time. A very sketchy thing to do.

Also, the RH wheel guard cover is missing and that also is sketchy with a stone.

I have found some wheel guard covers still available at places like:
SearsPartsDirect website link - --> http://www.searspartsdirect.com/

eReplacementParts website link - --> http://www.ereplacementparts.com/craftsman-grinder-parts-c-158286_159871.html

I suggest you search for a manual, then look up the p/n and see if the p/n is a match or cross references with any model or p/n on the above sites.

Free manuals are available from OWWN/VM ---> http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=222&tab=3

The 3/4-HP Blocks with HD bases I have seen, have 5/8" arbors and 8" dia. wheels/stones.

Best of luck.

Nice find, BTW!

Wow those are nice. What did you say the cost would be for him to print them?

Mine is slightly different it's 1/2HP but I do have the adobe file for it that I could give him.

Thanks buddy. He definitely did a bang up job on them.

Here's his email address. [email protected]
Shoot him an email with the file and he'll get you a quote

So I went back to the shop and picked up the grinder in question. It is 1/2 HP and looks to be in decent shape for $30.

So the born on date that's usually stamped on the bottom of the these grinders. Has anyone come across any grinders with stock bottoms not being stamped? Ive received two now with no "born on date".

Looking for stones now. Trying to figure out the right one and size to pick up.
Some of the Block labels will say, but the 1/2-HP flat top Blocks I have seen have been 7" dia, with 1/2" arbor, and I think 1" wide. 36 Grit, Coarse & 60 Grit, Fine - Vitrified Aluminum Oxide.

Also, another member asked in this post.

Yes, there's a date more often than not, but not always.

The date stamp can be removed with solvents and cleaners. So, be warned.

So I finally got the reproduction labels in oh man are they 99.9% accurate. Ok maybe not 99.9% but damn close . Minus the radius on the corner they look almost exactly like they would new, fresh out of the box. Can't wait to get this bad boy on

Yes it definitely looks good for its age and too some of the others I have as well.. the older one must have been sitting somewhere really hot cause at one time the glue became soft and the whole label was turned to the right about 4-5 degrees. So decided to pull it when I was getting the grinder for sand blasting. I'll definitely reuse it.

What else can you buy for $30 that is so much fun to restore and use?

I love getting Blocks for $10 per 0.10-HP!!

I've paid more and I've paid less, but that's my rule of thumb for these parts.

Of course, like real estate, it's all about Location.

Nice find!

I wasn't sure what the one I have I got for $30.00 (and a hetic drive) was?
But looked last night, that Bad Boys is a HALF!
And the label is darn near perfect!
Think I'll be doing a light restore. bearings sound good, think I'll Pick Lever B.

Bought today.
Looks like a 1/4-HP cast iron guy.

What's the model number and mfg. date?

Nice find, and just when you might think all those old Blocks have been found.

But, just like the last few years, when spring rolls around, the Block grinders start to make their appearance on CL, etc ....
