I had a great day at the flea market two weeks ago. I found this Craftsman USA metric combo set from 7-22mm, minus the 9mm. I also got the Craftsman 3/8 RHFT and the two DBE, a New Britian and a Wizard. I went to another flea market that day looking for a 9mm, but found the 6mm and a Snap-On MV71 1/4 ratchet. Total for the day: $32.00

The following Sunday I went back to the same seller at the FM and found the missing 9mm, plus some other Craftsman USA and 8 SK wrenches. Another vendor had the SK 3/8 drive 7/8 socket, the Easco wrench and another C-man DBE. Total: $17.00

The following Monday, did a little dumpster diving at work and found the other collection of stuff. Another C-man 3/8 RHFT, C-man 3/8 breaker, a gas hedge clipper, working Fluke 179, Greenlee multiple angle level, die grinder, air ratchet, a roll of silver duct tape and a new roll of cloth duct tape, 2 boxes of 2" 16 gauge brads for a nailer, a C-man truck box, and a plethora of wrenches, screwdrivers, nut drivers, hex bits, pliers and assorted other stuff, some of it ****. Total: Free!

All in all, a great week of tool collecting!

Swingpress - I would have cancelled the Dr's appointment for a sale like that.
The doctor will have another opening in a month or two, a chance at that kind of sale comes less often.

What have I done? ??TODAY....sucked.....kinda. I was all set at 5am to hit up an estate sale described to be packed with vintage snap on tools so I knew I had to be early and stand in line for awhile. After getting my spot ( I was by no means the first one there) and break out the coffee my phone rang. It was my wife telling me I had a doctors appointment at 8:45. 15 min before the sale. So after blasting off to the dr and coming back it was a, "day late, dollar short" situation. But I did manage to get a few small things.

Proto, Bonney, Blue-Point, and Snap-On and Plvmb. (My Bonney and Proto collection has started largely thanks to this site)Thanks y'all!
Snap on Ferret F-4-H, F-4-D, and F-H

Snap on S-15 1/2" breaker and F-5-C 3/8" breaker.

Oh! And boker.

Blue Point 1/3 hp grinder that works. $overpaid I'm sure ( I have no clue about grinders.) Did I do ok at $40? It does have a nice dent right on the, "Equipped with Ball Bearings" tag. I'm sure missing plenty of parts. But works.

Then a gal who was selling a compressor I asked about on the Let Go app messages me about a bunch of old tools and how they were moving house blah blah...so I went there (25min. drive) to what ended up being the SKETCHIEST pick ever! I'll spare the details but safe to say I saw the compressor, paid and exited stage right with a quickness! And my wife can't understand why I daily carry religiously.... I did want the compressor just because I liked the look. I definitely overpaid at $60.
Thing spewed oil everywhere when loading it but I didn't care just wanted out of there. It is an old Quincy but it looks butchered after I got to looking at it. Gonna be a long restoration on this one. I don't even know what's original and what is a culmination of a tweakers brain child.... anyone have an idea as to an age on this?

That compressor may be cool--but that thing screams scrap value especially seeing the spray paint and booger'd crank snout.. It's getting stung like that which inspires learning to be more critical of your buys.. Moreso--as a fan of occasionally carrying when doing deals especially at night and in unfamiliar areas--(not near as often as my girlfriend wishes-)--lacking comfort is a perfect reason to bail once you see the junk being sold.. Also-I make sure I get a decent feeling of the salesperson before committing to buying some junkies recently acquired goods or their parents valuables they've decided to liberate.. Save the dollar bills for another day.

A scrap guy I know was getting rid of an old Construction Machinery Co. Thoro-Mix concrete mixer made in Waterloo Iowa so I got the signs off of it and a large cable drum that looks like a pulley for $40.

The cable drum looks cool and will become the base for a stand of some sort.

One sale this morning. Got there 30min early and was #37 on the list. Then, at 8a they opened the door and let the first 10 people in without going by the list. There was a rush for the door and it almost got ugly. After that they used the list, but it was too late. After the first 10, they went by fives. By the time I got in the workbench was picked over.

I paid $1 for :
S-K C-24 3/4" combo wrench
Craftsman 1/4dr 3/8" socket (=V=)

That's it.

Also picked this up from the 'bay because it was cheap and I was sitting in a hotel room. Glasses case era Chapman set.

I love Chapman products, and these are the earliest sets from them.
Nice find!!

I found a complete WWII era set with the label still attached to the inside of the lid. Long story short, after getting in touch with the owner (still in the family), and discovering they had never seen a pre-50's set with the label inside it before, I sent it to them for their little walk-in museum. You may enjoy this GJ thread from last year to see how the whole saga unfolded...

EDIT: And here is a link to the article Chapman wrote about the set I sent to them on their website blog...

I missed the other thread on this till now..

Cool set! Great that you donated that bit of history back to them!

I'm guessing the 80th anniversary set came and went, as I was unabel to find it on their website.

And now I guess I'll have to open every dang blue/black eyeglass case I ever see from now on... :willy_nil

@wrenchguy, looks like a flathead Wisconsin V4, hard to tell much more from the pic.

@topop101, nice variety of things you got there. Is the knife with the big round handle the home made one?

@swingpress, that compressor is neat, but looks like it will need a lot of luvin.

Some nice looking stuff there guys!

Bluebolt- way to salvage those cool parts before they hit the scrap yard.

I went to one sale today and it was quite the tool sale. A true guy's sale. Nothing but tools, project cars and parts, and a complete train collection/track setup in the basement that drew all the train nuts too.

A very interesting house. Definitely a single guy's place and a work in progress. The floor were down to the bare plywood, no carpet anywhere. The whole house and ceiling was bare drywall, nothing finished or painted. Any woman's nightmare I'm sure :scared: . Someone told me the guy jumped ship and moved to Australia after being fed up with the gov't.

A couple interested things happened there today:

- some guy cut the cord on a bench grinder that was hard wired in but the power wasn't turned off yet. POP! He wanted to buy it and the cord was run through the workbench. I just happened to be standing right next to it.

All too familiar. I did this once at a sale removing a vise from a bench and struck a wire to a light that was hidden under the bench.

- I found a Craftsman long handle non-flex 1/2" ratchet for the first time "in the wild"

- Also, the company actually set prices on the fair to even cheap side for once so I did pretty good!

Tool pics to come.

Some old rides growing, I mean sitting in back of the house, Studebaker:

Stilltoomany The home made one is the far right one in the picture. The big round one is a cork handle Colonial.

Pretty sure it was an air cooled Wisconsin V4, the engine seemed to be frozen up.

Yeah I have seen some cool stuff just get scrapped. He made a few hundred bucks that day just by towing that mixer and an old International hay baler straight to a local scrap yard.

Got out early this morning and headed to a small town north of me that's having a city wide garage sale... Its a small oil field town very run down. Only found 3 sales. none the less, I stopped for each one. The first sale said 40+ years of old tools ect... really not much.. BUT there were a few things.

Bonney T702K 3/8 drive ratchet
Small no name ball pein hammer.
30" 3/8 drive extension no markings
Sears brand 1/4" drive socket set.
Old Toolbox roller bottom still thinking bout getting....
$4 spent

Next stop nothing of interest. The third sale happened to be a very old lady in prob 70-80 range. Mostly nic nacs.. got to the back and spotted a little 80 amp flux wire welder.
Brought it home, works fine.... $20

Took a break and headed out to lunch and the casino with the girlfriend. Won $100 off of my $20 investment. the only Estate sale listed started at 2pm and there were no tools listed and only pics of furniture and nic nacs. Held off going and jacked round with the gf till late afternoon. Daughter calls me and asks if Im going to the E sale shes looking for dressers to refinish. SO I pick her up at 515 and we make the sale at 530. 30 min till shutdown on day one.... we are in the garage and Im looking at a few odd tools on the work bench in the garage.... Daughter taps me and says dad look... pointing to the table right past where Im looking. 2 green socket set boxes... one def says PLOMB on it. I grab both and take em over to table to check em out. Plomb box has a lot in it.. about half is PLOMB including 1/2 sockets ratchet breaker bar and some 1/4 sockets. The SK box has some SK in it as well. Ratchet, couple of extensions, breaker bar, and some 3/8 sockets. The rest of the sockets and speed wrenches and breakers were all nice Williams, Snap On, New Britain, P&C, and some other stuff...

Couple of neat things in this haul were a Brass 1/2 5" extension made by Berylco, and a Husky 9/32 - 1/4 reducer.

Total spent $40 including my daughter vase.

Century made some decent Welders; Does it have copper of aluminum windings?

I'd have bought that for $20!

No sure yet outlaw I hooked it up and ran a bead with it then out it to the side to go through the rest of the pile Ill look in a bit, I have a miller mig, and a Nice Tig, but this could be handy.

Til I saw that, I was going to say you owe your daughter a Starbucks at least. Maybe you still do since she not only pointed them out to you, but dragged you out there anyway! :pimpflash

That "Brass" extension is NOT Brass and don't get it anywhere near anything Abrasive, not even a wire wheel or a buffing wheel. BeCu is Beryllium Copper and its Deadly Toxic if breathed.

In solid form its fine. just don't get it into breathable dust...

As always I especially enjoy the socket finds you guys.

Here is my haul from the estate sale. I think I did pretty good for being close to # 50 on the list. The place was tools galore with a large two room shop.

I ran into a couple flea market buddies and they did quite well on Mac tools. One guy got the two long 1/2 Mac ratchets. I had to be quick to get some of the better stuff I did get. The place was very busy.

I paid just a few bucks over $200 with tax for everything.

Pics 1&2 - the entire haul.
Most of it is Mac, Snap On, Cornwell, Craftsman, Matco.

Pic 3- Cornwell and Mac screwdrivers, Mac and Snap On punches, Matco magnet, Snap On and Meis Tool air bits

Pic 4- Ken Tool puller, Snap On strap filter wrench, Snap On and misc. step plates

Pic 5- SK adjustable, Mac open end and Dust cap tool, Blue Point windshield tool and snap ring pliers, Snap On cutter, Milbar wire twister

Pic 6- Snap on puller, jaws, battery puller. Mac tie rod and carb wrench.

Pic 7 Mac 1/2 sae impact set, Mac 3/8 metric set, Craftsman stud remover, misc Mac, Matco, Cornwell, Snap On sockets, extensions, adapters.

Man 3bay you did make a great haul!! some really nice stuff. I got the little brother to your SK 8" adjustable a few weeks ago. I dont see many of those around. I need to start my own estate sale business just to cherry pick the sales I do lol!!
