Plenty of rusty junk for me this weekend. Starting Friday at one estate sale then a small take at a flea market today. Grabbed so much junk I'm not sure where to start...:dunno:
More than a dozen hammer of all shapes and sizes including and 1800's Plumb
More than a dozen chisels some are late 1800's
Dozen Axe's , hatchets , adze's , shaves and knives
3 dozen or more pliers, wrench's and tongs
A pair of old tool boxes-Hinsdale and Waterloo saw box
Cobblers hand shoe anvil and what I think is a wheel wright anvil

At the FM I picked up a training grenade, 1950's maybe or it could just be a repop with a good fuse screwed in it. Also a BSA mess kit (fork knife & spoon) , lil cast iron bug( for my growing collection of iron bugs :eyecrazy: And the last thing was a small sharping stone on one side and a leather pad on the other. It has a wooden handle and the whole thing spins on the handle. Barber tool?

Awesome haul! I've been hunting for blacksmith tongs around here for a while. Looks like I'll have to make my own...

First pick up in awhile!

Saw some blurry pics on Letgo for some superratchets in a proto box, and what I got there was more than I expected.

Gee, rick, another place to find bargains--thanks!

Rick--the "thanks" from my previous post was semi-sarcastic, but I still downloaded LetGo to my phone and checked it regularly. Today, it paid off.

I responded to an ad for some Starrett depth gauges for $40 bucks (I'm retired from picking, but I'm not a monk). I came away with a bunch more.

The older fellow, Darren, liked to talk. He was retired from working in auto repair and auto body work. He'd partnered up with his son to buy a house for their family and granddaughter and now the son was shutting him out and not treating him right. He was going to move down to Florida--he'd never been there, but that's were he wanted to go with his wife. He really liked my daughter's '65 Malibu, that I'd driven up in. He used to work on Pontiacs and really liked GTO black. My daughter's Malibu would look really good in that black.

Did I mention he liked to talk? Oh my, he liked to talk. I got all of the above in the first five minutes and I carried on a running conversation as I picked through the tubs of tools. He kept calling my attention to this tool and that tool and encouraging me to make a pile and make him an offer.

Don't get me wrong--I did find the conversation enjoyable. He's a nice guy and he was willing to deal. I paid $120 for all of the tools and then as I was leaving, I asked about the big Craftsman vise screwed to the work bench. "Another $20 and its yours!" And as I was unbolting the vise from the bench, he kept tossing things into my tub of tools. Things like a tape measure, a screwdriver, a Ryobi belt/disc sander--you know, little things.

Two lots at the auction netted me this lot. I actually sold a bunch of junk in the auction, so I went home with all this and money in my pocket!

Awesome haul! I've been hunting for blacksmith tongs around here for a while. Looks like I'll have to make my own...

Thanks man! It was a lot of work. Couldn't carry much at one time so I spent too much time shuffling my haul to the holding table. Missed out on some great stuff  including a mint 141 pound PW anvil

Swingpress - Great haul today.
From the style of the handle, I would guess that the box is from the late-60's to mid-70's.

Wow, you guys came out with some sweet hauls this weekend!

Jeff - seems like you guys all have good luck at the Restore. I went to one once and was let down. One rusty open end wrench in the place. I bet there are guys who clean the place out all the time though.

Swing I spent plenty of time around metronomes learning piano. Oddly, I still don't own a metronome but they're cool.

Well, you were my hero for a brief time....

Not sure about Missouri, however 100+ lb anvils are worth a mint, kidney, among other things around these parts. I'd have dove on it, fought, scratched, clawed, etc. :lol_hitti

Damn Blue! You better go to church and confess after robbing that poor guy. How is he coming to Florida with no money after you stole his tools. :lol_hitti

Blue Bomber said he was giving the guy a down payment and that the Craptain would have him a place to stay and the remaining payment when he gets to Florida. They shook on it but little did the poor guy know that BB had his fingers crossed behind his back the entire time. :lol_hitti

Not to re-open debate on a regular topic on this thread, but I didn't have that "thievery" feeling you sometimes get at estate or garage sales when you are getting stuff for cheap. I was dealing with the original buyer, not an unknowlegeable, emotional widow or family member. Darren clearly knew what he had bought over the years and emotion did not appear to be clouding his judgment. I did turn down a lot of stuff he tried to put in my tub, and even told him about my Ebay experience and how he could reach a larger audience with the small or lightweight stuff.

Yeah, I know the Starrett I bought for pennies on the dollar meets that criteria, but as I said, I'm not a monk.

First pic, I picked up all the 1/4" drive USA CMan sockets from my "source" that sold me all the 3/8" & 1/2" drive stuff too. About 1,500 of them (along with a handful of other sized sockets)

Then I see in CL a "garage sale" with "thousands" of NOS USA CMan sockets, wrenches, etc, etc... Starts at 7am... Kind of far away, and I was supposed to meet a guy at HD to sell him the old frame from my radial arm saw.

First I didn't wake up when I wanted to, and took me a while to get going so I decided not to try and rush to the sale first then try to meet the guy and end up being late. So I took it easy, met the guy. Found out he had a newer craftsman model that had the two-piece bolted together arm and when transporting it, it cracked. So he's going to try and retrofit his carriage onto the older frame.

Finally made it to the "big tool sale" around 9am. One guy looked like the DEA brother in Breaking Bad, lol. Anyhow, they had a whole wall of the garage with bags & bins of craftsman sockets. Got to love all these workers from the Danaher plant finally selling off their hoard.

I probably missed out on some ratchets and maybe larger sockets, but oh well. All the regular sized sockets I pretty much already had from my previous big buy, but I did find a bin with the larger sizes (I think biggest are around 30mm & 32mm). A few 3/4" drive sockets, and even a few impact ones.

Didn't see any large SAE ones? Maybe someone grabbed them or he just didn't have any.

Matching used Craftsman 3/8" & 1/4" ratchets, Three new 1/4" ratchets, bag with metric hex keys, other tool with hex keys is also metric.... Obviously everything is USA.

Metal oiler for $1, two boxes of drill bits, $10, one is India made (Allied), other are USA HSS.

Didn't quite get the socket deal for what I paid on my previous bulk purchase, but I feel it was fair for the sizes. Just about all the smaller sizes I already had, and the few sizes of wrenches he had I also had and they were just the black oxide ones anyhow.

Hit up at least half a dozen garage sales on the way back... Nothing! Was all just clothes & DVDs & junk... :( Not sure if I'm going to bother going to any today, have a lot to do around the house...

The PW sold for 295 and would bring 1100 because of it's condition so it was a painful loss

Couple of multi-home neighborhood sales yesterday netted a long handle Matco 1/4dr ratchet and a Cman 1/4dr sae set with plastic storage case with a RHFT ratchet! This mornings 20 min ride to a Collegeville garage sale where I picked up a really nice Porter Cable 1/4 sheet sander, a full set of Cman drill bits in their red storage case and a Schrade multi tool. The drill bits look like new and I checked to make sure thee no china's in there.... been fooled that way before!

Today's pickup. Paid $100 but it was just too cool. Snap-On set 111B all dated 1927, just missing one socket, the 3/4" hex.

K-ranger. better pics of the unknown vise? maybe wire brush the sides of the jaws? that may be a re-branded Parker... If so, the screw retainer is not original, but that's an easy fix.

Swingpress - Great haul today.
From the style of the handle, I would guess that the box is from the late-60's to mid-70's.

I agree, my 1966 Craftsman catalog has the "plastisol coated steel handle" that I call an "innie" handle, my 1969 catalog shows that "heavy-duty polyethylene handle" that I call an "outie" that Swingpress's box has.

Sears box, full of ****
Caulk-Rite caulker doobob
14" Stillson-pattern Lectrolite pipe wrench, sharp teeth & good springs
Brass brush
Red Devil mini paint scraper
Stanley torpedo level

Half off today = 8 bucks. The pipe wrench made it worth while, but I need another pipe wrench like I need a hole in my head.

Then, today's finds:

I hit the $1 tables hard, and as today was the last day of the swap, so...MAC 1/4 extension, Snap On spinner, Craftsman spinner, SK bit driver, Ocean City reel (not working, yet...) a little Japanese 1/4 socket set and a Snap On impact socket. Also got a Weller soldering set ($5), another of those Proto dual driver long ratchets ($5) and a Bonney 1/4 ratchet with a couple Williams sockets ($5).
And then I picked up this wooden box:

Needs a little work (a bit of water damage and such) but...

Was able to talk him down to $35, but only as long as I took all the taps in it (last day, got to love it!.) The taps weren't half bad, and went down to 1-72...

So with all the wind and rain and what not, I had a blast. Even if I didn't drop 40K on a new ride.

Very nice haul, this weekend, BMWRD0!

If I had all week, I don't think I could have seen everything there was to see - especially all the dollar tables (I could have blown my budget just sorting through those)! I spent about 4 hours (only) at PIR on Thursday, then all day Friday and Saturday at the Expo Center (taking turns manning a booth). I took today off - I'm beat!

Someone ground them down.

Flea Market was packed, Central Fl morning was beautiful.
Grabbed a Collins Legitimus fire ax head (that's what the seller clamed anyway)
and a vintage Starrett Machinist Level, a 98-6 is what I believe it to be.
Any idea on the age, as the ones I see on the bay do not have japanning and this one does.

Brian oh yeah, level came in a stout little leather case to boot.

Legitimus made Fireman axe heads but that isn't one of them. A fireman's axe head has a short pick on the back of the head.

Thanks Jpick, I bought it on the value of it being a Collins Legitimus ax head, being a fire ax was an additional benny, hopefully ! It's a seller regardless.
