Rick--the "thanks" from my previous was semi-sarcastic, but I still downloaded LetGo to my phone and checked it regularly. Today, it paid off.
I responded to an ad for some Starrett depth gauges for $40 bucks (I'm retired from picking, but I'm not a monk). I came away with a bunch more.
The older fellow, Darren, liked to talk. He was retired from working in auto repair and auto body work. He'd moved partnered up with is son to buy a house from their family and granddaughter and now the son was shutting him out and not treating him right. He was going to move down to Florida--he'd never been there, but that's were he wanted to go with hi wife. He really liked my daughter's '65 Malibu, that I'd driven up in. He used to work on Pontiacs and really liked GTO black. My daughter's Malibu would look really good in that black.
Did I mention he liked to talk? Oh my, he liked to talk. I got all of the above in the first five minutes and I carried on a running conversation as I picked through the tubs of tools. He kept calling my attention to this tool and that tool and encouraging me to make a pile and make him an offer.
Don't get me wrong--I did find the conversation enjoyable. He's a nice guy and he was willing to deal. I paid $120 for all of the tools and then as I was leaving, I asked about the big Craftsman vise screwed to the work bench. "Another $20 and its yours!" And as I was unbolting the vise from the bench, he kept tossing things into my tub of tools. Things like a tape measure, a screwdriver, a Ryobi belt/disc sander--you know, little things.
